@Irishgirl41 I got that one from Amazon about 5 years ago. It stopped working about 6 months ago and I bought a digital ph tester and a digital PPM meter recently. Pretty cheap at about $20 each.

On a D.W.C system you want to change the water & nutrients every week!!! Balance your P/H & adjust your ppm to what ever your plants can take with out burning them....

How to you maintain a constant water level? Just check every day and add more water? How often to you check nutrient levels?

Nice going, but your Airpump was lower than it should be,,,

Warning!

If your Airpunp is Lower than highest level of water in your container you risk in electrical Fire.

Explanation:

If there is electric shortcut, your pump will stop pumping air and because of physics, water can start flowing into Airpump. When electricity come back and your pump is filled with water, then the problems starts.

@qnner Yeah, this pump came without the backflow prevention that is supposed to be included so says the box. Other pumps at Walmart came with it. Check the box folks to make sure it's in there!

how much would you estimate you spent total on the materials? i would imagine the most expensive piece would be the air pump, but im considering doing this with rosemary. i would love to do it with cleome but would have no idea if cleome would germinate and work with hydroponics? any ideas? would really appreciate your input! thanks!!

@TheLongrin Just keep the PH at 6.0 and I'd change the water once a month while maintaining it full to the line every few days. Right now I have nothing growing in it but about to try something new to grow.

Why do you need the airpump? Wont it work with just some water under and no airbubbes?

i like it,man....FYI the blocking of light is more for algae prevention than the plant roots..the roots really dont care . i have different systems with them exposed and have mass roots, some vertical systems have plants growing in clear plastic bags with no media at all but the nutrients flow or pass by and are filtered so no algae can develop..but the algae luv light and will get thick in a nutrient solution system where the nutrients remain stable or non moving like a bubbler.nice work.peace

@D3master4 Will do. I still have the same plants and they have grown into a monster. I just never use tap water and make sure the new water is the same temperature. I'll do that this weekend.
