  • We're playing this in my high school band. The whole thing to be correct

  • The "advanced" orchestra at my school played that this year. I would sit in on some of there rehersals just so I could listen to this song. So brilliant.

  • This is a great song. I am playing this with Circus Days at 240 speed and Lux Aurumque all together t the UIL competition. IT'S GONNE BE FUN!!!!

  • Lovely!!

wow...this is Middle School? I'd have never known. Please give them my congratulations!

  • this is amazing... our wind ensemble played this.... i love this song :)

  • Remember, of the students on these instruments, many go on to L.D. Bell High School, a nationally-recognized school for its terrific music program. The students in this school district receive some of the finest secondary-level music training in America.

  • Great rendition of this great piece by a JHS band!

I played this at the Usdan Center for the Performing Arts many, many (36) years ago. It introduced me to playing really good music and to Ralph Vaughan Williams, whom I adore to this day.

Thanks for bringing back some wonderful memories.

  • u guys have to read that it is an honors band, so its the best kids in that area, but its still very good

  • @jetsstate - Yeah, this group was comprised of select players in 4 Hurst-Euless-Bedford junior high schools (14-15 year-olds). This group rehearsed only one time, the day of the concert, much like how they did all-region band rehearsals back then.

  • @jetsstate My middle School Wind Ensemble is playing this song.

  • we are playing this in my high school and the band teacher put me on percussion and i am a color guard person. i barely read music and have never played a instrument in my LIFE! to me this piece is so hard and i get lost so easy. but its pretty =]

  • This was the best thing that we played in high school concert band. I used to whistle this down the halls. I loved this suite!

  • first piece i ever played in a concert band, good memories :)

  • @adambyrne08

I loved this suite. The first band piece I ever played (or at least tried to play) was "Bells Across the Meadow" That was 44 yrs ago!

  • Holy hell, I'm in grade 12 and I can't even do that 6/8 part that well!

  • o_o That's really fast... least it's played correctly :D

  • Oh my! My teacher just passed this out today and I'm in high school! I'm a little nervous now!

  • wow this is great! a middle school band played this?! Some high school bands today can't even play this. My sisters band did and it sounded great!

  • Whoa, heady days for me too, I remember what a favourite this was in my days at the Lancashire Schools Symphonic Wind Band. (Circa 1982). Superb composer and what immense fun to play (Eb Bass personally)

  • @tony67xyz

    Thats a long time ago..Trumpet 81/85.

  • we played this piece at my high school band LOCKE... it was a gewd piece for concert enjoyed playing it...

  • My gawd, a middle school band playing it this well! Excellent job indeed.

  • It's a shame that more groups don't play literature like this and other compositions by Vaughan Williams, Persichetti, Claude T. Smith, Clifton Williams, etc. It's not "sexy" like some of the newest stuff, but absolutely wonderful music.

Fantastic band, too. Especially in the brass, and even more so considering the age of the group. Props to you!

  • played this song at border music camp....so much fun!!

  • OMG I LOVED playing this song,it was so so so SO much fun.

Playing this song for the last concert of the year was fun BOLERO!! Was fun too, but in Folk Song we only played the first movement and the 3rd one.

  • It's the best way for classial composers to write this sort of music!!! it's sounds great and i think every one can feel a pleasure and joy... it's a classial and folk music the same time!!!

  • Good for you. Not many middle school bands play it, because after all, it is listed as a class 5 piece (highest) if you play all of the movements. You must have a great band program like I did. :)

  • I thought that the grading scale went up to 6...

  • Dude yes my band is doing this song. 8th grade. OOH

  • the second movement always makes me laugh because it sounds like the egyptian theme.. thing on the beginning of the solos :D

  • you can't hear the fab 6:8 bit - the bass/brass are far too loud :-(

  • junior high? wow! that's amazing

i remember playing this in high school and the flute and clarinets would be wiped out after the first movement!!

  • haha yeah, we had a test today on the first movement, all of us were breathing so hard and all pink faced xD

  • my high school is playing this. we have a trumpet solo instead. but this is good too

  • i dont know what they call form one in america... but anyways, our school orchestra started teaching two weeks ago... it was awesome. even the first time.... love it=]

    p.s. i play cello

  • pretty good for middle school!

my high school's wind ensemble is playing this.

except on the first movement we use a

trumpet for the solo part and on the second movement, we use a soprano saxophone for the solo.

but it sounds good with an oboe

but we don't have one so yea

  • i cant believe these were junior high students.....i dont even think my old high school sounded that good back when we played it a few years ago

  • this is really a junior high? amazing.

  • From a Band Director:

WONDERFUL performance! (Especially for those of a junior high age)

One of my favorite pieces for band. Thank you for that.

  • Yeah, one of the solos is supposed for an oboe, but my class doesn't have an oboe player, so a trumpet player does it.

I think it sounds better with a trumpet, but that's probably because I play one. xD

  • I like this piece. I also play the snare part at school.

  • yeah, there definately was piccolo. how could you not hear it?

  • hehe.

  • My high school played this song last year for symphonic band. We got forth in state.

  • They Both have a solo, but my high shcool is doing the solos with trumpet and clarinet

  • sounded like an oboe to me

  • it is an oboe.

  • Great for a junior high band!

My high school band is playing this right now and I was actually following my part when listening XD

    Go tenor saxes! >.>

  • That was phenomenal!! Really, it was really good. And this was middle school? Our high school band is having slight diffuculties with this...But still. Really good!! :D

  • We played this as a brass ensemble piece. Sitll awesome!!

  • awsome when i played it

  • This is a junior high band? This is incredible! I'm a junior and our band isn't even playing close to this!

  • Lol, isnt this like little to fast? my school playing this for parade of bands at maui^^ we play almost as u guys lol FLUTE FTW LOLOL AUDIO PREVIEW IS SHIT FUNNY LIKE A ARAB GUY IS SAYING IT LOL

  • thats sacrilege!!!!!!!!! lol there has to be a piccolo fer this song!

  • I wish my band was this good when I was in middle school o_O I'm in 11th grade now and we're just playing this

  • umm where is the piccolo?!?!?!?!?!? Not bad for a junior band If I may say so.

  • there defiantly was piccolo during the second movement it had a solo

  • only a thousand views? there's obviously a better rendition out there...

  • Over a thousand views? Band geeks love them some Vaughn Williams.

  • JUNIOR?!?!?!? high school??
