  • take the phone appart, and check the little grey and gold circuit conectors (the little ones that make the volume buttons on the right side to work, also the 2 top bottons to either lock the screen or mute the music, etc:) one of them is bad, find it change it and enjoy!!

  • SAME EXACT FUCKIN PROBLEM!

  • Anyone having the same problem watch my video to solve the problem.

Compressed air will help but it's just a temporary fix...You need to open the phone to fix this, cleaning the Trackball sensors and the "Click" is a must for a long term repair!!!

    Hope this helps!

  • I got the exactly same problem. The solution for my case is quite simple, just scrolling trackball quickly on a clean white paper and it get fixed. So, I think the problem is caused by the stains in trackball.

  • i think is a hardware proplem

  • I had the exact same issue and was able to fix it by cleaning the trackball button hope this helps for other people

  • Fixed mine! Slight corrosion under some of the keypad contacts was causing multiple shorts. Check this video at around 0:45 where the guy peels up the keyboard membrane:

    youtube.com/watch?v=1yTHDz3jXiA

Don't peel it all the way up if you haven't got a new keyboard membrane, just about as far as the trackpad. Clean the PCB pads and membrane contacts, some may be corroded. New keyboard membrane / sticker can be got from eBay from China for a few dollars.

  • take the battery out and put it in a bag of rice overnight!

  • THE DRYER IDEA WORK AMAZING THANKS !! :D :D

  • i have the same problem with my bb 8900 curve :/ but i did get it wet, with cider at a party. but the water damage sticker showed that it wasn't water damaged. none of my letters were working at first but the trackball was working fine. then i put the hairdryer on it for about 10 mins and the keys were working fine, but after a few minutes or so, it was doing the same thing as your phone. the reason it does this is because your keypad membrane is damaged. mine is getting repaired now for £35.

  • i have the same thing right now :-( i left my BB in the bathroom so i could listen to music... and now it just doesnt do anything anymore when i press the buttons... gonna try to dry it now with the hair dryer as people here sugested that over here.

  • I*w got the sam problem an then use hair dryer i move out sim card and work so fine

  • got the same prblem! dry the keypad with hair dryer! it works!

  • same thing happend to mine

  • I have the exact problem!!! damnit!!

  • I am having exactly the same problem and no water damage. The sticker is still white. Can anyone tell me how they fixed the problem?

    Thanks

  • I had same problem just like this issue. I tried to solve by changing trackball (10 euro at ebay), then cleaning out the area underneath with alcohol pad and cotton swab....but the problem wasn't solved .......

Go into Options > Status and type "test" - click on the Menu key and choose Start. Then run the Keyboard and Trackball test. So immediately trackball and keyboard worked!!!!! I hope it's a useful way.

  • @MarcantonioRM Excellent!!!!! Had exactly this issue and used the Keyboard and Trackball test that you proposed!!!!! PROBLEM SOLVED!!!!!!

  • Mine has done the exact same thing, is there anything I can do to fix it? Or will I need to send it off for repair? And do you know if it is moisture damage that has caused it? Because I don't think I my phone insurance covers that :'(

Your response will be much appreciated, thanks Xx

  • My BB Bold 9000 JUST started to do the same thing as soon as I got off work today >:(((

  • same problem here with mi curve 8530

  • ive got the exact same problem with a bold 9700.

  • So funny, i have the same problem... if you solved please tell me :(

  • I have the same problem. My first BB. Good phone though. I've dropped it a few times, but I have it in the bathroom with me when I am showering (so I can listen to music) I think this has caused it to malfunction. What do you think?

  • I have the same problem with mine!!

Have you ever found a solution or received support from anywhere?

A software update did not help, a keyboard cleaning did not help - what to do??

  • I have this problem too!!!

Just tried a software update, did'nt work.

What to do - please help?

Have you found a solution yet?

Mine started after it "froze", while receiving a message. My BlackBerry exactly like yours.

  • SHIT!!! wtf! your BB is fuck up!! Blackberry phones are so SOFT!!

  • I need some help, i got the keyboard a little wet

and now i have the EXACT same problem.

Does anyone know the real way to repair with without cost?

also, since ur ball is messed u can use the enter key to enter stuff.

One thing, i can make calls, but did anyone find a way to end one?

  • @N0S3C4NDY have u tried a blow dryer

  • i have the same problem with my BB Bold, sooo is this fixable or should I return it to the store ?

  • Alcohol tip does not work ??

    Any solutions ???

  • This is not a big deal and it happens because of oxidation basically you have to open it up and give it a good clean with an alcohol based solution (rubbing alcohol) some sensitive spots are the keys and just under the trackball there are 4 movement sensors.... look at those sensors and make sure there is no oxidation in between the legs as that can really make your keyboard go wild :)

And remember this tip is from bimos.be the guys that know ;)

  • @confuciuso first go to BB website and search for "KB02318". Then go to "step 4" and the link will be there for you (I can't attach it here). BE SURE TO BACK UP YOUR SIM CARD AND EVERYTHING ON PHONE FIRST! It will remove everything.

Also, I noticed the problem came back briefly immediately when I tried to change the X/Y sensitivity of trackball(?!). So I reset the sensitivities back to default (70) and rebooted and now it is ok again . If you get it working leave it be for a while.

  • i have the exact samee problem its annoying, iunno how to fix it -_-

  • Same exact thing happened to my phone. Drove me crazy!! Finally, I resorted to setting a password, connecting the phone to the desktop manager, and failing the password so it would wipe the phone. I went to blackberry's website, followed the procedure for wiping and reinstalling and my phone was cured. Good luck to all, be patient, backup, wiping and restoring takes about an hour (don't interrupt it!).

  • @Technohoops could you share a link for this. went thru the site but nothing there

    much thanks

  • i have it to. atleast you can use the enter key on the keypad and you can scroll anduse menu. the only real thing it stops me from doing is hanging up

  • PROBLEM FIX! - to solve this problem in most cases is to fix the autotext entry's you must have accidentally set for a specific key. Most of you know how you can use auto text to create shortcuts when texting. For example on my phone, when I type "fb" , it automatically changes is to "facebook". I hope this solves all of your problems. Thumbs up this comment so others can fix it.

  • same problem HEREEEE IM FREAKING OUT!!!!

  • i got this problem today!!! T_T

same like yours. exactly the same!! i am googling how to repair it T_T

  • I have the EXACT same problem with my BB. I opened up, cleaned the contacts under the trackball (which were dirty) and it fixed the problem... for a day. Now it's still doing it, and I can't fix it. I am amazed so many people have this issue! I have never gotten it wet, but the only thing I can think of is that its in my pocket when I go for walks or while im at the gym, and it does get sweaty. Has anyone figured out a solution to this?

  • lol maybe is ur conputer bro

  • i got this problem in my bold too>> i toke to the repair shop and they said that something must have spilled on it or like you used it while your hands were sweaty.... and tehy fixed it for 50 boxzz :)

  • Edit: I have fixed mine =D =D =D

Like @tekpc81 said, disassemble your Blackberry completely. Now you can clean the area underneath the trackball, mine was really dirty. In fact, there was dust everywhere. I cleaned all contacts and the trackball with a cuetip with some alcohol and used a cotton swab to make them dry again. When I put everything back together, it worked like a charm!!

  • So what is the actual solution for this problem?!!??!?! Everyone mentions it, but I don't see any people (except for one or two) coming up with a solution! I have exactly the same problem and I can't imagine that you guys haven't fixed it by now, because I'm going completely nuts!!

Can anyone provide help by a giving a solution?

    Thanks in advance!

  • I dropped mine in water and I started getting this exact same issue with the same characters as well.

  • Did you fixed the problem?? i have exactly the same problem (same keys; same trackball problem)

  • The comment by tekpc81 was correct! Had the issue on my blackberry and now it's working perfectly fine! You just need to clean the contact between the trackball and the motherboard!

  • remove the trackball and clean out the area underneath with alcohol pad and cotton swab. there may be moisture, but more likely the cause it due to moisture triggering the dirt to further gather on the contacts and interfere with the scroll mechanism and the keyboard buttons. I had the problem and it was resolved. hope this helps you too.

  • @tekpc81 You saved me £50 by following your simple instuction. Thanks tekpc81. Thumbs up!!

  • this problem had to do with the firmware any phone past november 2009 should not have this problem

  • uugggh, i got this same problem. same keys, same everything. but sometimes it works fine, but then sometimes it starts messing up again. ...like fucking rite now!

  • wat if i dont have a waranty :(

  • i also had a very similar problem with my storm 9530 i sent it to warrantee and they fixed the flexo , now ive got but today i wanted to make a call and the dial key didnt worked so if you have any idea of how t fix it please help anyone now it is the only problem im having

  • i h

  • sent in to warranty. i had the same problem and got a refurbished phone back for free. now i have another problem with the buttons but i think its cuz i got the keyboard a little bit wet.

  • i had the same problem. sent it in to warranty and they sent me back a brand new one. thing is, i have button issues again.. but i think its cuz i got the keyboard a little bit wet. anyways. if its under warranty send it back.

  • dude i have the same problem and its really pissing me off.. Ive had the bold for 3 months never dropped it or had water near it. I went to walk on a normal day the phone was in my pocket .. took it out and bang the same problem. Has Blackberry done anything about this issue ??

  • wtf how many times have you dropped that thing? did you try wiping , maybe you have some fucked up firmaware that your reloading on your new device,

  • it slid on the ground once. and yes, i did everything. its nothing relating to the firmware. read comments below. i use a bold 9700 now, no issues with that one

  • what i can do , i cant write the password :S!!

  • i had that problem but, the phone get fix by himself maybe... 2 hours after

  • my famz un i all have blackberry bolds and we all got them around the sametime...but recently my momz BB has being freakin out when it cumz 2 typing....i am trying to open the fuckin thing but 1 of the bloody screws doesn't want to come out at all...it turns but there is no sign of the screw cumin out of itz respective slot......does anybody else have this stupid problem

  • OMG I HAVE THE EXACT SAME PROBLEM. does anyone know what to do about it? im freaking out i mean this is a 600$ phone

  • the phone will need to be replaced. someone mentioned of soldering, but i am doubtful that it is worth the effort. you can get it off contract for 450.00.

i would suggest upgrading to the bold 9700 for the exact same price

  • exactly the same problem, same characters same issues

  • ohhh im getting the bold so im just wondering

  • can you take the track ball out of this phone

  • yes, but you have to take it apart

  • oh kool does it have the same screw spots as the bold 9000

  • this IS the bold 9000

  • so take care of ur phone dude, 3 for 3 is not coincidence... you r the problem in this equation i say

  • maybe u live in a very humid area, or expose the phone to a lot oh humidity.its a thought,

  • Hey I got this model recently (Bold 9000) and am having a very similar problem as well!

Have only used it for appriximately 2-3 phonecalls until I noticed that 5 keys aren't working at all and there's nothing I can do about it just changes randomly!

I don't know what to do except to return it on Monday and ask for my money back!

  • dat happens when the bb is wet,,,

    i had dat prob too.

  • Hi was it ok after sometime? pls tell I am having the same prob. will be ok after a while or may be after it got dry?

    cheers

  • it got better later. after about 2 days everything was ok. if not, just take it to the service centre!

    good luck

  • Well the 2 letters can be due tu water or corosion, try to clean near the track ball really well, if you spot greenish oxidation take a pin and rub gently, also the electronic piece on the MB right can make keys stop working...good point there but again soldering is not for everyone ...

  • man i have the same problem ! now no button works . Did you fix it ? and if yes how lpz ?

  • Alright, its been a week so far, and I haven't been able to repeat this issue.

  • I did resolder it back in. This issue comes and goes away randomly with my phone, so I'll need to spend more time on it to see if it did anything. So far it's not having this issue, but I'll keep you posted.

  • if your phone isn't under warranty, do this:

When you open your phone, remove the motherboard from the bezel. Check the motherboard while the keyboard contact side is facing up. Next, look at the bottom right area of the motherboard, right next to one of the contacts for the bedside cradle charger. There is brown surface-mount resistor/cap that is larger than other surface mount components close to it. Check if the solder joints on it are broke.

I noticed that it was broke on mine.

  • did you fix it? if so did it resolve the issue?

  • Just an update.. I left my phone in my car on a hot summer day for several hours. When I came back, this problem went away.

Maybe the heat evaporated the moisture inside the phone? :/

  • hmm...definately possible...

putting a wet phone in a sealed plastic bag and leaving it in the sun for awhile (with batt out) usually helps

however none of my 3 were near anything more than my finger sweat/oil as far as moisture is concerned. i wish crackberry would post something up about this to get an idea of how widespread it is...

  • I'm having this exact issue with my Bold now. I don't recall getting any water on it, but it started happening on a very humid night out in Miami.

Unfortunately, I had to open mine up in the past to replace a damaged screen, so I no longer have a warranty on it.

  • Happened to me. Brought it to the store to get a new device and they claim it's water damage. :(

  • This happened to Me when I got stuck in the rain with my curve

  • mine does the same thing with my blackberry curve. i think it happens to all blackberry's. i dont think u can fix. its an internal problem

  • I've got the same thing... it works fine sometimes, and most of the times it gives me the same problem...

are you sure its hardware, because everytime I reinstall my OS.. it works well for a few days before it commits suicide on me ! and i dont mind changing the pcb... mines out of warranty anyway... any know hows on how to go about it?

    thanks :)

  • i was describing the board replacement as a hardware fix...a new board would mean a new IMEI and PIN for sure...(along with s/n) i dont know if you can even buy boards on the open market for these. i know you can get replacement screens though. are you on rogers? cause unless you soaked it or opened it then it should still be in warranty till nov 4th at the earliest (mine is up nov 4th)

  • mine does the exact same thing. any solutions?

  • no solutions....other than replacing the pcb (which i havent done cause my devices are in warranty) it seems its a hardware issue. this was my 3RD bold this EXACT problem happened to...yea, id say there is a fucking problem

  • @six2onesv1k

u didn`t resolve the problem? if i change pcb my prob. my problem is done?

  • @six2onesv1k

if i have replace pcb , my problem will solve? ... what happen with your 3 phones?

  • my bb 9000 works exactly like yours ;(;(
