  • We had one of these. It was THE most comfortable car I've ever been in, with seats like Lay-Z-Boys. Saved my life when I slid down an icy street and into a tree...

  • Amazing--the '76 New Yorker on Davidsfarm used to look like this?? WOW! Not knocking Davidsfarm but it's just that I've never seen a new one before.

  • @dumpstermower just bought that one off dave funny enough, just in a little bit of snow at the moment ! :P

  • 0:37 Comfy seats!!!

  • And his dad was Allan Jones, who was in all those Marx Brothers films! Mob cars for Mob boys....1975!

  • This would be the 1976 New Yorker, as issued in the Fall of 1975. This commercial could also be seen in August of 1976. For 1977, Jack Jones did a softer version of "Talk of the Town" in a spot which can also be seen on YouTube.

  • @JohnK086 It was shown in October 1975 during the World Series. Not 1976. They always promote the newer cars a year before.

  • Copy cat Lincoln Towncar. It's the talk of the hood. LOL

  • one of my dreamcars < i wishd id had some day 2 new yorkers 1973 white and 1975 red

  • It looked great before Mr. Lahey got his drunk hands all over it.

Okay, it didn't look that great even then.

  • @MaestroTJS fucky the drunk clown lahey.... :P

  • Thanks Jack STILL a Great Car.

  • Has anyone bought this Chrysler car before.

  • you need a semi-truck license to park it.

  • Definitely a 76 New Yorker, I owned a 75 New Yorker. Completely different cars. The 76 is the old 75 Imperial

  • Nice car. Wish I could own one.

  • Hehe I own my grandaddys still. And it is totally rust free like new. But I only use it for driving around my 200 acre farm to make sure the paths are okay and to take friends out to the little shed where the can am's are stored.

  • It's a gasser, Baby !!!

  • Oh god I love the style of the old US cars!

  • check that interior! aus just doesnt have anything this plush,

  • just sold mine :( loved it but it needed someone with more cash and time.... gutted

  • The last great Chrysler.

  • the car is so big it would ride pretty good

  • I had a '74 Newport that I picked up after my '71 Dodge Polara was totaled - I much preferred the Polara.

  • The car is nice, but that interior looks like patio furniture.

  • Always liked the '75 and '76 New Yorkers. But, that back seat looks like coffin tufting.

  • WOW! TURNING HEADS IS AN UNDERSTATEMENT! That is a really beautiful car.

  • This is a 1975 Chrysler New Yorker Brougham!!

  • hehe i own one of those things. Dont expect to get better than 10 mpg with them in city traffic! And this is if you drive smoothly and the ignition timing is advanced the most you can without pinging :)

Anyways, I get more attention downtown with my car than any douche and his BMW M5 hehe.

  • my aunt had a 1971 new yorker brougham that was almost like ridding in a Cadillac or a Lincoln it was so luxurious my aunt brought it brand new in 1970 when they were living in Chicago and kept until 1987 when they brought a Oldsmobile cutlass ceria sedan

  • New Yorker..It's the talk of the trailer park

  • Big and beautiful. Cars today can't even come close.

  • Wow. Mama Mopar never let anyone down in the 60's and 70's! This big land barge was so beautiful! Thanks for posting this commercial!!!

  • When all else fails, argue that it will crash better than others. Gheesh...are people stupid or what???

  • TELEVISIONARCHIVES: The title of this video says it's a '75 New Yorker. It is a '76 New Yorker. In 1976 Chrysler swapped around a few names. They dropped the Imperial name, but actually called the Imperial, the New Yorker. They dropped the actual car, the Newport, but then called the New Yorker, the Newport. You had to be familiar with the actual cars to know what I mean. What was the New Yorker, became the Newport. And the Imperial became the New Yorker.

  • If this was shown during the 1975 World Series, then it would have been shown in late September or in early October. Then they would be advertising the "1976" Chrysler New Yorker; since 1975 was the last year (for awhile) for the big Imperial.

  • @StephenB58 Late October was when this game was on. Around the 25th

  • @TELEVISIONARCHIVES It ran during Game 6, Tuesday October 21st.

  • @StephenB58 Maybe he meant the 1974 World Series

  • @EbonyBunny1 No. It was the Red Sox and the Reds. That was 1975

  • @StephenB58 Yes that is correct, both of your comments!! The last regular New Yorker series was 1975 with open headlights, and that's Jack Jones there saying that this is a New Yorker Brougham which was the replacement for the Imperial. The Imperial never sold well, there were only 8830 made for 1975 and they threw in the towel. The NYB came out in 1976 with all Imperial references removed for a couple thousand dollars less, and immediately sold 35,000 units. My 73 only saw 17,000 units.

  • @StephenB58 The Imperial by any other name of this design is still the Imperial. What was chrysler thinking?

  • If that is a 1975, then it is not a New Yorker; it is an Imperial. If this car is a New Yorker, then it has to be a 1976 or '77' or '78. The New Yorker did not have hideaway headlights in 1975.

  • @StephenB58 It was shown during the 1975 World Series

  • @TELEVISIONARCHIVES Advertising next years model. They always release them early.

  • @StephenB58 It's a '76.

  • what's this car horsepower?

  • @daredevilXIII I have got a 1974 with a 440 bb engine. I believe it has about 250

  • Ironically, nobody in New York City would be seen driving one of these tanks.

  • I'd like to see the result of one of these behemoths crashingi nto a Smart car! The Smart car would likely be vaporized, while the NYer's bumpers wouldn't even be scratched! :-)

  • Four years after this commercial was aired, Chysler was on the verge of going out of business.

  • 0:33 World Trade Center Towers in background...I miss them so much.

Love the comment "The New Yorker ant a New Yorker price"...New York is expensive!

  • I was 11 in 1975, and yet i still clearly remember this ad and the lyrics. I miss the old "jingle" ads...

  • Land yaht...

  • Nice Bell Bottoms Jack.

  • @The6000Sabre, Those were called the "Fuselage" designs, I LOVE those cars!!! I don't exactly know what Chrysler was thinking when they redesigned the C-Body in '74, But they really didn't look all that great.

  • daves farm chrysler new yorker!!!

  • I remember this ad fondly - but this car was an IMPERIAL!

  • Love that true hardtop styling. 4-door hardtops were so attractive. Its ashame no car company makes pillarless 4-door cars anymore.

  • When I see any New Yorker on the road, and that's rare...i still hum this tune to myself. I was 14 when Jack Jones first sang the cars praises...shows how a good jingle can stay with you.

  • Holy crap...I haven't seen this commercial for 35 years...I was 11 when it was out, but I always remembered it. It was Fall of 1975 for the '76 New Yorker. But in my mind, it was Sinatra doing the commercial.

  • I Used to derby the crap out of them ! lol They gave me feature wins.

  • thats my baby!!!! Would love to have 2 of those!!!

  • can you give any web whit this car for buy can by a canada and usa I'm from europa and I wat this car

    thanks

  • How much did this car cost when it was new?

  • According to my book the price would have been $6,424.

  • $5999

  • Standard Catalog Of American Cars, Krause publication

    76 Chrysler NY Brougham 4d HT $6737

    76 Olds 98 Luxury 4d HT $6419

    76 Olds 98 Regency 4d HT $6691

    76 Buick Electra 225 4d HT $6527

    76 Buick Electra Limited 4d HT $6852

  • mr leheys car!!!!

  • Starting in 1974 Chrysler made their C body cars look a little too much like the big GM cars, Buick and Olds. I prefer the Chrysler models from 1969 - 1973.

  • I just gotta say that is one FINE automobile.

  • This year for New Yorker was way better looking than Cadillac, Linciln or Benz from those years. Amazing too, when my dad passed in 2001, we were cleaning out his attic and I found a 1974 Consumer Guide on Cars. It was the Imperial for that year and you could get a fully stacked Imperial for @ $11,900. Lincoln went for @ 12,500 and Caddillac at @13,500. Benz was doing the 450sel as their big ride at @$20,000. You can't even get a new ford for that now!!!

  • I just purchased mine !!! 130,000 miles for $500.00 -blows black smoke though and then catches fire on occasion....

  • wow and you still drive it? thats scary lol!

  • Now that's a luxury car.

  • @enigma413

Actually not. Cadillac and Lincoln were a step above. The New Yorker was the top of the line of a medium priced brand.

  • This would be a 76 or 7, because in 74-75 that body style used the Imperial name. I have a 78 2 door, looks the same except the grille is slightly different.

  • it needs to be green and black and with the front passenger door missing lol

  • SENSATIONAL.

  • These cars were great. Fantastic ride- no car made in the last 20 years rides like these did! And it LOOKS like a luxury car. Someone mentioned below that new luxury cars don't have the look now- and it's so true. They look the same as cheap cars. American luxury cars were the best!

  • Great looking car and one could take a nice nap in those seats.

  • That would have to be a 1976 New Yorker. That body was still being used by the Imperial in 1975. I loved those cars. It's basically an Imperial without the 4-wheel disc brakes.

  • those cars road like a wet dream

  • In 1979, the New Yorker was downsized due to skyrocketing gas prices. They could have kept it the same size and put a Cummins Turbo Diesel engine in it (much better than the Olds 350 Diesel that ended up in the much pricier Cadillacs)!

  • This car has good old american style!!

Today the cars look boring and cheap.

Watch an S Class , Maybach or even a BMW 7 Series...they look ugly (BMW Chris Bangle crap ) or like a kind of a pregnant wahle (Benz)...sorry

    but i prefer vintage elegance.

  • The advertising of the seventies was much better than today. Back then, they made a song about the car!

  • You'll get more hit's from Youtubers if you put Jack Jones in the tag line. He's got a big following! Love this ad. Or even Love Boat in the tag line as he's the singer on that TV show's intro.

  • Boy, I've been waiting for someone to find this and put this on youtube. This was on of my favorite Car Ads, Loved Jack Jone (love boat theme guy) and the car. I remember this ad clearly from tv. Now if someone would just just find the 1974 Dodge Monaco Commercials with the Prince Rainer and Princess Grace filmed in Monaco....That was a great series of Commercials that featured Royals talking about Monaco the country as well.

  • Chrysler sold a lot of these back in the day. The 76-78 New Yorker (depicted here) was a hot seller.

  • Very graceful looking car.

  • all this luxury at a new yorker price....??? whats that even mean, lol

  • It means the the same car in a Cadillac or Lincoln in 1975 will cost you a few thousand more.

  • Wasn't the New Yorker more in the same status as the Buick Electra and Olds 98?

  • Sorta, but this New Yorker was essentially a rebadge 1974 Imperial, so it would be comparable to a Lincoln or Cadillac

  • I wonder what Chrysler did wrong. They should come up with a car that everyone wants and needs to bring them back to life like the Aries K and the Chrysler K car did for them. Not to mention the Omni and Horizon.

  • Beautiful car with ALL the key styling points:

    Waterfall grill

    Hideaway headlights

    Rear fender skirts

Teardrop tail lights with solid chrome bumper

No pillar between the front and rear windows

And of course, those magnificent pillow-tufted velour seats.

    Awesome stuff!

  • One of the most beautiful and comfortable cars ever! Thank You to all the great people at Highland Park!

  • By the grace of God, Chrysler will survive!

  • No they won't . Ford and GM might but Chrysler won't.

  • Crysler had survive!

  • @TELEVISIONARCHIVES That is your opinion. The old chryslers will survive. I have a 1981 Lebaron that runs and drives like new.

  • Lahey's car;)

  • until that bitch barb lahey stole it. it was nice until the movie when he flipped it

  • Jack Jone's did this and the late Ricardo Montalban did The Cordoba with Corinthian leather. Two great Chrysler pitchman.

And lets not forget Arthur Godfrey from 1972-1973.

  • Very nice!

  • Well I would buy this car this commercial has class--today even maybach cant afford such a nice commercial

  • This car is very nice and I love jack jones voice...why does he not sing the loveboat theme :) That would fit to this car--THE CHRYSLER LOVEBOAT NEW YORKER HEHEHE

  • I remember thios commericla really well! Those "boats" were unique looking, they had bold character, and were so identifiable that you could tell what they were as soon as you saw them - and they had actual model names instead of the boring, almost homogenized letter initials and number model identification.

  • That is not a 1975 New Yorker!

  • then what is it

  • I guess it could be a 1976 New Yorker. It was part of the 1975 World Series Commercials however

  • Great to see this!

I have a near mint '77 wedege wood blue NY. That I bought from the orginal owners son, when the owner passed away in '98. They were basically an Imperial in all but the name. Chryslers last huge luxury car.

  • Simple commercial for a simple time. 1975, The Reds won the world series.

  • Brings back memories of a special World Series indeed. I even remember the commercials too!

Do you happen to have the one from Gilette ("Trac II Shave it's a perfect shave , it's the perfect shave yes it is...etc".

    Thanks for posting!

  • yes, it's a cheesy car commercial. But from a singing standpoint Jack Jones is outstanding.

  • My Uncle had one like this, a 1978. Last year for this body style. Excellant car.

  • This was one of my favorite car ads when growing up. the car is beautiful American style, but whoever wrote the jingle was pure Madison Avenue brilliant! thanks for posting!

  • The age of the gas guzzlers, although not a bad looking vehicle, it sure pulled a lot of weight.

  • @prausch65 The big Chryslers are surprisingly good on gas for their size, much better then most of the Fords and G.Ms from then with the smog heads, more power as stock too.

  • Beautiful car. Classy commercial. Great singer.

  • the new yorker was one of the best cars chrysler everhad, esspecially for 1975-1978, thanks for the commercial

  • I want one!

  • Great old commercial, even though the New Yorker was a boat. Thanks for posting!

  • Uhm... "boat" is a compliment.

I used to drive one of these. God what a wonderful car. Comfort, power... a real car.
