  • Im not sure who I am in love with. The Piano, Valentina, or the music..... It's all three. A most magnificient of combinations.

    I send my love.

  • oh my God, she's possessed. By God

  • best version

  • your performances will just wow just about anybody

  • Спасибо огромное Валентина за Ваш талант!!! Вы прекрасны!!!

  • For all the people saying its so too bland and and "loud" and whatever, I'm not sure what you think the ocean is like, but generally its blue everywhere and holds a lot of power... This is how this piece is meant to be played. For those of you who are saying it isn't, you clearly don't play piano, and never will be able to.

  • Does anybody have some wine?

  • With each wave more emotions rise.

  • Yes I love Chopin. Find also this a little bit metodich and miss the real feeling for the music.Otherwise she is very good, in many other pieces of music I have listen to.A very good tecnique.

  • sloppy sostenuto

  • When I first heard this I thought "Wow, she's very talented to be able to do this". I found myself returning to it that very day. THEN when I heard it, I FELT IT. Didn't think about how it was happening, just got wrapped up in it. It sent shivers down my spine, a mixture of sadness and happiness, struggle and hope. Imagine making someone feel that way without saying a spoken word or or having any personal contact with them. Purely aural. Incredible. This is music at it's most powerful to me.

  • I love Lisitsa and I love Bosendorfer; together, absolutely amazing. I don't know whether or not this DVD track is of her playing all 24 in concert, but she seems exhausted (not smiling like she does in Op. 10 No. 5). Bravo!!!

  • Грандиозно! Красота! Спасибо, Валентина!!!

  • ULTRAVIRTUOSO!!!

  • this made me drop tears

  • one of my fav pianists !

  • This piece reminds me of the grim reaper.

  • I am absolutely in-love with this woman and her playing.

  • 211 people were seasick

  • Tremendous.

  • 211 people don't know how to play a piano! Or they're deaf and REALLY want to hear she plays :D

  • ... Oh my godness ! That's sooooo wonderful ! *_*

If I could play like this... ! *_* I don't have enough vocabulary to say thath in English but I can say in French you are so "exceptionnelle, merveilleuse, talentueuse, virtuose, prodigieuse, admirable, élégante, surprenante, prestigieuse,... !". All these emotions in your music that's like a dream *_* :)

  • mese gav mizane mire music tatile

  • Valentina lisitsa Vs. Chuck Norris...

    Chuck Norris now play violin

  • arguably perfect fingering and technique. but i think its a little too fast.

  • Have you tried playing the first page?:) as for me it could not be that fast;)

  • Нет слов..., ВОСТОРГ и ВОСХИЩЕНИЕ!!!!!

  • 209 envidiosos ♥

  • Mother of Christ! Do mine eyes deceive me!? Since when have I seen such passion, such flare and such power? The world... is a wondrous place to live with people like this around.

  • Almost made me cry! Wonderful, wonderful, wonderful .. A shame the ending is cut off

  • Difficulty Scale 1-10.. what would you rate this? I am trying to learn it and maybe I could ask my piano teacher to teach it to me? (I'm not a beginner)

  • มีคนแบบนี้ในโลกด้วยหรอว่ะ โอมายก็อด

  • She seems possessed by the devil.

  • I love her tempo! My wife has always played classical music faster and it is what made me fall in love with it.

  • she's young and zesty; of course her style will be fast and powerful! i love it

  • that technique is just so boss

  • far to fast, i prefer horowitz

  • O.o

... i think i just swallowed my throat... if thats possible

  • superb !! her fingers run very smooth from octaves to another, almost effortless !!!

  • my hero...

  • Check it out. I knew Rick Wakeman had a daughter somewhere.

  • Blah blah blah. Boring.

  • ruined this piece

  • @Nealkohol argument first and then comment, isn't that how it's supposed to be?

  • c est incroyable!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • excellent performance !

  • <3

  • nicely done! I love it =)

  • ! Its such a unbelievable epic piece

  • I wanna see the tabliture!! :P

  • I dont care what anyone says you are the most talented piano player I have ever heard and by far the most beautiful as well.

  • omg girl get a bra...

  • @xXxviciusxXx2 this ist not the point. it's about the music.

  • Above average

  • She play with such a lightness : )

    /good pianist/ : D

  • reak life, she is beyond and plays from heart soul and rapture

we would love to have her on our Christmas troop cd, which we make and send to troop folks around the world FREE to ease their spirits

music is the universal thread of the human soul binding the heart beat of all

  • Dear Valentina Lisitsa,

i am performing this piece in the Opera house and i'm to nervous, nothing works for me!

please tell me how to overcome this!

  • @Electron64

Playing in front of an audience is a learning process just like learning how to play the piano itself. Each audience is like a fingerprint (or a snowflake!) - totally unique and never the same. Play in front of an audience over and over again and you will find yourself growing, not just more comfortable with playing in front of people, but becoming a better pianist and musician as well. A true musician can feel their audience and a true artist learns from them.

  • @Electron64 Play and play more and more. Eventually the nerves turn to just excitement.

  • Instant arthritis much o.O

Anyway, this is a beautiful piece =]

  • she has no real life i think :D but still amazing (:

  • Just amazing!!!!

  • I never thought anyone could play that song that fast.

  • my hands need a nap after watching this...

  • i have 1 question, will you ever visit georgia, many ppl would appreciate that

  • she plays very quikly for me

  • Look, ms Lisitsa is obviously a good pianist who play beautiful music in a professional way, but if you call this playing great, you obviously haven't listened to many great recordings.

  • @Mralibabarooibakkie I'm so glad someone else had the same reaction I did to this. The beauty of Chopin is how he wrote to provide contrast and transition from loud to soft, heavy to light, etc. Her dynamic range is narrow, she plays almost completely ponderously instead of varying the weight of touch, and she seems to interpret at most a handful of measures together in her phrasing (rather than the piece as a whole). To me this had barely any emotional impact.

  • amazing...:))...

  • She's amazing but honestly I don't even think Chopin himself intended for this to be so fast lol. And I'm all about the speedy Chopin.

  • thank you for flying over NYC with us....and with great appassionata.....

  • WTF?

  • "No dynamics" "Rhetorical quality"

All I hear is "Blah blab blah."

You're too busy trying to criticize an undeniable professional in her field to hear and feel the power, emotion, freedom, and epic-ness this piece conveys. She is playing it with power, while the phrasing and melody of the piece is still absolutely clear. I don't think you understand how much thought and effort she puts into the piece, and understanding the composer's intentions behind the piece.

  • @SergeOfArniVillage We aren't that busy to criticize. She is killing chopin. This is way too fast and the fact of the matter is that no matter how hard you practice or effort putted on this what really matters is how it sounds. this is half-killed. Lisitsa try to slow down, what is important is the music not the speed. and composer's intention doesn't matter, I could press a C and give an extraordinary intention, and that sound is nothing, it's all about sounds.

  • @morriganzero (I'm SergeOAV, this is my new account)

No, she is not killing Chopin =) I agree that the sound of the music is what matters most in a performance -- ALWAYS. Why do people constantly make the mistake that because something is quickly played, it is unmusical? Baffling.

I did not make up my mind that she is a brilliant pianist because of how quickly she can play the piece. When I listen to this, audio only, I am bewitched by the *music* she makes.

  • Agreed, this sounds a bit rushed with little to no difference in dynamics throughout the piece.

  • @icedragontt In this sort of piece, the dinamics don't really matter. So long as you can hit all of the notes at the right time. timing and speed seem to be the operative things in this sort of piece and she got both of those down. Chopin's main intent with this piece was to make it sound like the ocean.

  • In soviet russia .... no wait ..... wrong video.

  • So, Angels do exist....

  • I got to see her perform with Hilary Hahn yesterday, it was soooooooo good! She's such a great player!

  • Amazing.

  • If I could write a review for you in the newspaper... it would just say "Wow!"

  • Your playing almost dipicts the beauty you possess. God created a masterpiece.

  • Nice music, but i guess Women dislike the video when you wear such alike-no need for that unless you sweat.

  • sembra posseduta dall'armonia la magnifica pianista...dolcissime note dall'inquietante al liberatorio...wow!

  • I love that you held back at 1:45 before the tonic, nice and dramatic. Me and partner are both keen amateurs and look forward to your Kreutzer and Spring Sonatas when you come to London in May (checked your public calendar) - don't forget your umbrella!

  • My favourite Etude. You make it look so easy. You have inspired me to give it a good go tomorrow. But you do yourself an injustice by clipping off the beginning and the end.

  • Важно не только то, кто написал. Но и то, кто исполняет. Прекрасно! Замечательно! Красота! Прелесть! Спасибо!

  • Wow Chopin sure knows how to end his etudes with a bang.

  • valentina controls this channel?

  • I love your music (feature it on my homepage ^.^). I'd like to make a suggestion that you sometimes post annotations as Ann Fontanella does. I would love to read your comments as I listen to your work. I would also like to think that you and Ann could be friends (you live fairly close) and there might be a duet one day.

Can't post a link here, but Ann can be googled. The Beethoven Violin Romance is what I am specifically referring to. Edit: it is also on my favorites list.

  • I first became aware of this wonderful etude when Vladimir Ashkenazy played it during an interview conducted by the late Huw Weldon on the BBC Monitor program back in the 1960,s. I felt iI had always known it & i still love to hear it . It must be the most satisfying experience to have grand piano resound under ones fingers.

  • good (((

  • what a talent....excellent...

  • Hello. I was looking at your recital dates and noticed that you would be in Dayton, OH on March 11th and 12th. There was no venue or ticket information. Would you happen to have that info?

  • @bsd300d I am plaing there with the sypmphony orchestra.

  • @ValentinaLisitsa come to binghamton university in New York! Bring some aestheticness into this cultural wasteland!

  • @ValentinaLisitsa whn are you coming to Peru?

  • @ValentinaLisitsa What a great tip - I'll be there!

  • @ValentinaLisitsa I think he was more curious about the actual details -- where it's happening, how he can get tickets, etc.

  • @ValentinaLisitsa

I just love you, your intensity, your touch, and your face playing the piano...

and yes.. here is a preview of heaven.. if one closes eyes, and listens..

    thank god created you..

  • Wonderful Valentina! Immersed in the music, she is music. She feels the sounds, which are part of her. Talent and passion.

  • Ignore people who post that they "dislike" this incredible performance.

    They have their own problems.

  • I'm melting

  • The 188 people that disliked this must be deaf in one and a pencil jammed in the other. lol

  • @TYRel101

Or suffer from (D.D.S) Deaf, Dumb, and Stupid

  • I'm wondering what some of the naysayers are listening to. I hear so many nuances in Ms. Lisitsa's play that this piece becomes a dream. I love it!

  • I think she's an incredible artist.

  • people don't understand ! People like Madonna!

  • maravillosoooo, Bravooo!!!!

    sin palabras!!!

  • @ValentinaLisitsa Your perfection freaks me out!!!! You are extremely talented!!!Well done!!!I feel a little bit jealous..I will never play the piano the way you do!!

  • Thank you for your comments, Anniepianist...that's telling him off...

  • Surely Chopin had a higher purpose in mind for this work than to simply run up and down the keys as an exercise. She plays the notes without any rhetorical quality. In short, she does not speak.

  • @shusarik I beg to differ. I think she puts emotion into her playing. You can tell by the sound not by her expression. At the end of the day, people really care about is the music, not her expression.

  • @shusarik haha its funny you say that. do you know what an etude is?

  • @shusarik It's called an etude. I believe this was played how it was meant by Chopin.

  • @sorablade314 Yes, in theory an etude doesn't demand much phrasing or lyricism or nuance on the part of the pianist, but it is still a piece of music which can be played tastefully! :)

  • @shusarik I absolutely agree!.Couldn't have put it better myself. There is no heroic quality here.Just another routine performance. No layering and balance of textures.Another day another dollar. What a bore!

  • So should she play it as not written?

  • I wonder why she doesn't ever email me :(

  • sounds almost like a Beethoven sonata. Good color, smooth, and she looks good too! :)

  • Valentina that's Talent!!!

  • damn classical music has evolved !!it should be on radio more often!~

  • @tommy1973able ita been the same concept for hundreds of years: emotion, soul, beauty. but we all know that the stuff we hear on the radio will be forgotten about in a few years, and all that matters is that classical music will never go away because it is true emotion. anyways i also wish they would have more of it on the radio. i can remember the one station ive heard before but ive never heard chopin on the radio. its a shame such a great artist goes unrecognized to the public :(

  • Imagine she is an ugly, nasty old dude with the very same ability. Do we care about her facial expression? Do you? All kinds of talented cooks have different physical characteristics associated with their musical abilities. Mainly, I think it is about making sure your neck doesn't hurt from bad posture. Every body is different.

  • his fingers have music !!! you' re a great performer. Bravissimo............

  • I'm torn as to which 25/12 I like better... Valentina or Sokolov? May never know...

  • not bad...but valentina igoshina is way better...

  • its look like shes playing casually :)

  • SKILLED!

  • She MUST be Polish!

  • @MrPhotodoc

    Ukrainian ;)

  • All I can say is WOW !

  • I love her playing, she is a super star. But, this is not my favorite interpretation of this piece. Not a criticism because taste is in the ear of the listener. She is remarkable.

  • metamphetamine user :-D ohhh shes awesome, chopin too

  • More than 1 mills views now!!!!!

  • flawless performance, one of the best new pianists around along with Yuja Wang

  • She look bored because this is all mechanical and boring

  • OMGGGGG !!!! Ö

  • good job! great hand posision!

  • I'm amazed! very nice hand posision!

  • This is incredible piano playing!!!

  • i'm in love

  • Beautiful and scary piece. But not that difficult as I had expect. When i tried it myself an hour ago it was very funny.Only learned 15 seconds but this is normal for me.I am very happy.Did wrong first and played 2 notes at the top. Then I looked at youtube and couldn´t find anyone playing so and checked the score better. Will see if l coninue or choose some other work. But this is absolutely the best Chopinetude and best version.

Thanks a lot for your perfect beautiful playing Valentina.

  • The melody is brought out better by ashkenazy...horowitz, cziffra, etc. but maybe that is the acoustics of the hall she is in as opposed to the intimate recording studio. I always enjoy Lisitsa while she may not compare to the legends..

  • Extremely convincing and concentrated live, uncut performance of this utterly tricky final of Chopin's opus 25!!

If this young lady looks bored? Totally outrageous!!

No - she has no time to even think of that sort of emotion!

An insult to even think that of a professional musician in a situation like this!

This music demands onehundredfiftyeleven percent concentration all the time - for it bites you back so fast that you'd never know what happened - and if you blink, you'll have missed it!

  • bored????are u kidding she looks possessed by that piano...bored is the look your spouses give u when in bed.if you dont like valentina im sure u can find some other garbage to watch on youtube

  • i can't believe she did a piece for Horse the Band. that's soooo sick.

  • holly woow

  • her dress is cut quite low.....does she want men to focus on her music or her low cut dress?

  • Punca ! Ti si GENIJ!

  • Manau, kad ji skamina per greitai. Žmonės išrado naują kankinimo būdą - greitą skambinimą.

  • Manau, kad ji skamina per greitai.

  • I get the feeling Rachmaninov liked to tourture musicians. Good thing for us!

  • @jmw102667 LOL seriously. I thought that too, any of his piece would require a normal person to have like at least 6 hands.

  • @jmw102667 why yes... yes he did... but this is chopin, and chopin is fun:D

  • @jmw102667 What the hell are you saying? This is Chopin

  • watching this without sound is hillarious!

  • I think for non-pianists, not all videos show the effort and intensity required to perform a piece. But this one does, as well as being a great interpretation to listen to. Nice.

  • How can i play this better and faster? It seems when i play this piece and switch my fingers from 1 to 5 etc. when going up it slips sometimes and i Cant seem to switch fingers at fast speeds, what can i do?

  • How do i play faster? When i try to switch my fingers from 5 to 1 when going up it seems to slip sometimes and feels a little tricky D: ...... should i just stick to super slow practice?

  • Very drole EricChimera !!

  • This is good, but I like Lola Astanova's version better

  • DIOS MIO

  • Unfortunately this video is cut before the ending. Any chance of posting it again?

  • just amazing...

  • This particular etude, as well as the performance is wonderful. There is something about the chords of the piece that is just affects me.

  • Wonderful.

  • I don't understand why people click on the 'dislik'e button for her videos. I'm honestly need to tell you that she is very talented.

I think you should click on "Dislike" button only when you can do better than her! Everyone should respect these talented people. As least, to get to this high level, they had paid long periods of time in their like to do it. I feel sad for someone who disrespect our life time to making music for people...

  • @anniepianist click on "dislike" has nothing to deal with the fact she is very talented or not! it's just that some people dislike the style,or her way to play, "strong" enough etc... some think her play is unmusical, but it doesn't mean they think she is untalented!

    don't be so narrow minded!!!

  • @anniepianist Jealously and envy go a long way. =)

  • @anniepianist You're right.... having said that though I feel justified when I click dislike on most Lang Lang videos I watch (and I can barely play chopsticks).

  • @anniepianist If anyone can play better than her then they obviously have a life and have no need to hang around YouTube and click on thumbs down buttons! I honestly can't understand the low level of some people's honor, respect and politeness. Shameful

  • @anniepianist

I totaly agree with you. Also if they did not like it there is a whole list of videos they could have clicked instead of clicking the dislike button. In fact I think youtube should remove the dislike button all together. I do not play but when I see skill and talent I have nothing negative to say to anyone who has the skills and talent that they do.

  • @anniepianist I believe that Kissin hit the dislike button 190 times, because he 's jealous!!!

  • @anniepianist cri·tique [kri-teek] Show IPA noun, verb, -tiqued, -ti·quing. –noun 1. an article or essay criticizing a literary or other work; detailed evaluation; review. 2. a criticism or critical comment on some problem, subject, etc. 3. the art or practice of criticism. You don't need to be a Mozart in order to criticize music, darling. Learn to cherish other people's opinions, instead of being a ham-fisted bigot.
  • @anniepianist she is indeed very talented! personaly i cant do this obviously, but i click on the dislike botton when know better piannists.

watching something doing what we cant do shouldent make us think its good

  • @morroida9966 youre supposed to listen to the music..not be jealous :P

  • @anniepianist - those people are jealous. Musicians with this dedication are to be respected and admired.

  • ich fühl mich bisschen verar scht bei der...niemals spielt die selber..
