RvBphil. How lucky that you were not at the receiving end of Red Army brutalities. Accepted but not allowed that it was in response to German brutalities I find hard to justify such brutalities against the Finns (you made war to them), The Polish, Hungarians, and even Yugoslavs.

We don't celebrate the first two because we lost the war but we welcomed our soldiers when they came home. We didnt ship them to a gulag in Siberia because they had been taken prisoners or shot them out of hand after raping their womenfolk like SMERSH unit did to the Cossacks in Italy. Individually, the Russian soldiers might have performed heroic deeds but the regime they served was savage and cruel and encouraged them to behave like beasts, looting and raping all the way to Berlin and beyond. I forgot to mention that when the first German Panzers rolled across Russia Red civilians welcomed the Germans as liberators and Red Army soldiers laid down their weapons and surrendered hoping that the Germans would rid them of a most brutal dictatorship. How many of those 20 million were killed by SMERSH for surrendering to the enemy?
