  • best version

  • Gene is the best Thomas Haverstock

  • As always, he put his heart and soul into everything he sang. RIP dear Gene

  • read that someone said it was a great hit in sweden , thatst true and whats more interesting is , that a group named Jigs made a recording of it and imo thats the best version ewa , coming soon i hope If i only have time ^^

  • Time is definitely precious! Make the most of it! That is not a selfish thing to want to do! :)

  • 1.18 'Life really is too short'. It certainly was for Gene. How sad that he died so young. Lovely looking boy and man, with a beautiful voice.

  • It was a hit here in Sweden in 1969. Great song!

  • 1962???? The original song "Je n'aurai pas le temps" written by Michel Fugain in 1967and covered by John Rowles in 1968 in the name :if I only had time"

  • R.I.P Grandma LOVE YOU ALWAYS coming upto 4 years and I still expect to see you cooking in the kitchen when we go back up north :( but I know thats never gonna happen love you and miss you always Kel x

  • Much better version than the John Rowles. There are not many that can beat Gene's powerful vocal range.

  • I agree that John Rowles version is the best version.

  • I think this is by far the best version of this song......Love it!!

  • I knew this as " Betty Blue". Grazie for sharing

  • great song. john rowles i think is a better version but i wood say that being a kiwi aswell.

  • I grew up with the John Rolls version of this song . Never thought anyone else could match , but Gene Pitney comes close.

  • Wow- I have always been a Pitney fan, and this is the first time I heard this version!!!

  • I'm going to sing this all day at work from now on, especially the first lines. ^^

  • Gene had quite the talent of turning otherwise obscure songs into hits, back in the day.

  • def not 1962. Michel Fugain, the original artist and composer had a hit with Je n'aurai pas le temps in 1967. The same year, John Rowles, thefamous kiwi crooner had a hit with the english version. So Gene's cover clearly was after....

  • he has the most amazing voice..nobody like him..

  • TY so much for sharing.

  • Beautiful!

  • Not enough Time Gene, but we will never forget you. You are forever in our hearts and the music goes on forever. Love you. Sue xx genepitneyaussieyahoo groups.

    Thanks Brent

  • Gene was a beautiful soul, great song writer, we lost a good Man

  • My favorite singer ever, its a pity he passed away!

  • Gosh what a voice,never forgotten,this great you are Gene,with love.....The World

  • Listen closely to this song. "If I only had time." Gene didn't, passing away at 65.

  • Also a great version!

  • iIf Michel Fugain had a hit with this song in 1967 and Gene Pitney had a hit in 1962 how can it be a cover of the french guys song.

  • The BEST version of this song I've ever heard! Gene was truly fantastic!

  • Brent441

The songs you post touch my soul.

Thanx for the........time.... you give to this truly magnificent Rock and Roller.

    Immortal !!!!!!!!!!

  • so right the words to this one heard this one years ago but then u think u will be young forever

    loved ya gene

  • You do a brilliant job Brent. I first heard Gene's amazing voice when I was about 8 I saw him for the first time in Derby when I was 18 and my wife also then became a fan. Sadly, he didn't make the last Buxton tour but I was privilaged to have seen so many of his concerts.

  • saw gene at harrogate conference centre, the same year he died, what a sad sad loss, this mans voice live was incredible, felt priviledged to be there rip gene..........

  • Tpviper : you`re so correct. I watched him live in Cambridge in 2003 and he was quite outstanding. I liked that he toured the UK every year, repaying the fans` loyalty ; he was much bigger in the UK than in the States.

  • Does anyone know how GP came upon this gem? Was he generally familiar with Michel Fugain's music? he would probably be happy to hear John Rowles' version of this song as well.

  • Wow, I never heard this one before, and I grew up with this guy's music in the 60's. Nobody wrote them or sang them like the great GP, but nobody. This one makes the hair on arms stand up.

  • Goes right to the heart.

  • This is SO beautiful!

  • great song thanksbrent

  • Thank you for posting this, beautiful voice!!

    RIP Gene

    Belgian Gene fan

    Annie

  • Had tickets to see Gene in Bristol, UK the day after he died in Cardiff. One of my great regrets that I never got to see one of the greatest vocalists of the 20th century. Missed seeing him by one day!!

  • WOW This Is Truly Amazing Song with such a powerful and exceptional voice, First Class At Its Best For Sure What A Song, They Dont Make Songs like this anymore such a shame..

  • fantastic! voice thanks for this

  • Very good voice, in fact, but i like the version from John Rowles much more.

  • Second that

  • Really good!

  • Brilliant just brilliant! thanks for posting.

  • Thank you for another beautiful Gene Pitney song! Ron

  • Great, great singer . A truly distinctive voice. BRILLIANT ! Will be sadly missed. Thanks for posting I,ve never heard Gene sing this song.

  • Sadley missed and cannot believe he has gone but the music of this great singer will live on forever, god bless you gene pitney

  • What a gerat voice!!

  • So great song I knew the song from John Rowles first time I here it from Gene Pitney but what is this perfect I wish it was live.thank you for posting,to my favorites.

"Je n'aurai pas le temps", sung by Michel Fugain

    watch?v=uzm0MOzvhKg

The composer-songwriter was Pierre Delanoë who created 4000+ songs!

    Thank you.

  • Sorry Jharley1962 He dead

  • Just so u guys know...

The Original track is by french great Michel Fugain

If you only spoke french....then u'd know (to the tune of I'd I only had time...they'd be mine :p)

  • My pop died not long ago and we played this song while we carried the coffin in to the church R.I.P POP

  • wheres the lyrics?

  • Up on the right side (under 2007)klick on more info.

  • Have i missed something? I thought he was still alive.

  • Many of us gathered nearly 3 years ago to lay our friend and world-wide talent blessing to rest.

Yet listen - great music lieves on and theefore so do those who brought it to us.

  • That true

  • well you are not dead.

  • rip GENE PITNEY you made my childhood good THIS MAN HAD SUCH AN awesome unique voice 10********** & then some a LEGEND

  • Rest In Peace my love....If I only had time...only time.....forgive me,

  • A TRUE LEGEND! And A SUPER ARTIST! There Will Never Be Another To Match Mr Pitney

  • I know it's annoying when people say this, but the original French version is stunning. Michel Fugain: Je n'aurais as le temps.

  • Gene PItney was one of my all time favorites. I was barely a teenager when he was already charting his career. I've noticed that artists that you realize one day you haven't heard any work from them for a long time. There are just a few that keep their career going year after year like Madonna but I've not heard anything of her's in a long time.

  • I love everything Gene did. Lighten up: tacky is fun ;-)

  • Now Pitney had some tacky songs, I'll admit that. However, "If I only Had time" is not one of them.

  • I heard If I only had time when I was very little and it is still as good as I thought it was then.

Thank you Brent441. One of my absolute favourites of Gene Pitney.

  • my dad was lying in the hospital bed, dying with cancer, and this song started playing.. its so true.

  • I'm an Aussie ( we are quite close to New Zealand ) and have heard both Gene's and John's versions. Gene has a good go, but John still takes the cake for this ballad.

  • jo longthorne does it as good as john rowles

  • I'd like to bet that that was Gene whistling, I rather liked it. John Rowles's version may be the definitive one, but Gene made a great job of it too. :-)

  • Yes, it was. Gene whistles on a few of his other songs, too, EG: 'Only Love Can Break a Heart' and 'I'm Afraid to Go Home'.

    He's brilliant.

  • Very good idea to put lyrics but it must be additional work so thank you for your time. I like those songs of the 50-60

  • The whistling is a bit naff, but it's a good version. John Rowles adds more to it.

  • I am a New Zealander as is John Rowles and his version is clearly the best. No question !! I can vouch for this as I am also a Gene Pitney fan from way back - what I find interesting is that both voices suit the song which I had never thought of before

  • love this song it was played at ma grandmas funeral and it was hard 2 listen 2 it a 1st but its a great song and its true

  • awesum voice

    sadley missed xx

  • dis is ma all tym fav song, i luv it , i fink dis is da only fing dat makes youtube luk gd, dis song is ma theme song, it is da story of ma lyf. if u can plz put up a lyricz version

  • i think this version is better than rowles' because he sings it simpler and not so overdramatic

  • Nicely done, but I would have to say that John Rowles does it much better.

  • I agree kare...tino pai rawa tana waita!

  • great soulful version,love it.thanks dave.

  • Love this sone. Thanks.

  • One of my fave songs!

    Thanks for posting this.
