1962???? The original song "Je n'aurai pas le temps" written by Michel Fugain in 1967and covered by John Rowles in 1968 in the name :if I only had time"
R.I.P Grandma LOVE YOU ALWAYS coming upto 4 years and I still expect to see you cooking in the kitchen when we go back up north :( but I know thats never gonna happen love you and miss you always Kel x
I don't remember this song from the 60's but I love it. I listened to John Rowles version ( in the states we didn't know who he was) and it's a very good version but I like Gene's better. Guess it just matters what artist floats your boat, both are excellent singers but there is only ONE GENE PITNEY.
def not 1962. Michel Fugain, the original artist and composer had a hit with Je n'aurai pas le temps in 1967. The same year, John Rowles, thefamous kiwi crooner had a hit with the english version. So Gene's cover clearly was after....
Not enough Time Gene, but we will never forget you. You are forever in our hearts and the music goes on forever. Love you. Sue xx genepitneyaussieyahoo groups.
You do a brilliant job Brent. I first heard Gene's amazing voice when I was about 8 I saw him for the first time in Derby when I was 18 and my wife also then became a fan. Sadly, he didn't make the last Buxton tour but I was privilaged to have seen so many of his concerts.
saw gene at harrogate conference centre, the same year he died, what a sad sad loss, this mans voice live was incredible, felt priviledged to be there rip gene..........
Tpviper : you`re so correct. I watched him live in Cambridge in 2003 and he was quite outstanding. I liked that he toured the UK every year, repaying the fans` loyalty ; he was much bigger in the UK than in the States.
Does anyone know how GP came upon this gem? Was he generally familiar with Michel Fugain's music? he would probably be happy to hear John Rowles' version of this song as well.
Wow, I never heard this one before, and I grew up with this guy's music in the 60's. Nobody wrote them or sang them like the great GP, but nobody. This one makes the hair on arms stand up.
Had tickets to see Gene in Bristol, UK the day after he died in Cardiff. One of my great regrets that I never got to see one of the greatest vocalists of the 20th century. Missed seeing him by one day!!
WOW This Is Truly Amazing Song with such a powerful and exceptional voice, First Class At Its Best For Sure What A Song, They Dont Make Songs like this anymore such a shame..
So great song I knew the song from John Rowles first time I here it from Gene Pitney but what is this perfect I wish it was live.thank you for posting,to my favorites.
Gene PItney was one of my all time favorites. I was barely a teenager when he was already charting his career. I've noticed that artists that you realize one day you haven't heard any work from them for a long time. There are just a few that keep their career going year after year like Madonna but I've not heard anything of her's in a long time.
I'm an Aussie ( we are quite close to New Zealand ) and have heard both Gene's and John's versions. Gene has a good go, but John still takes the cake for this ballad.
I'd like to bet that that was Gene whistling, I rather liked it. John Rowles's version may be the definitive one, but Gene made a great job of it too. :-)
I am a New Zealander as is John Rowles and his version is clearly the best. No question !! I can vouch for this as I am also a Gene Pitney fan from way back - what I find interesting is that both voices suit the song which I had never thought of before
dis is ma all tym fav song, i luv it , i fink dis is da only fing dat makes youtube luk gd, dis song is ma theme song, it is da story of ma lyf. if u can plz put up a lyricz version

Much better version than the John Rowles. There are not many that can beat Gene's powerful vocal range.
