Not really, the plane was on flaps45 (100%Angle), and that had slow down the plane way too much causing a steep vertical descend

This was a test to determine max allowable sink rate for the MD-80. It was, I believe, the prototype aircraft. Nobody was hurt, although the airplane, obviously, was toast.
