I read the lyrics/lines for the first time today and thought they were beautiful and really interesting. Then I searched it on google and found this... I really don't think his voice does the words justice... I'm disappointed and it just sounds creepy to me now.

If you just read the lyrics/lines as if it were a poem they are enthralling.

I can not believe we do not have music like that these days, the man is a poet, on who can shape feelings with words and draw tears even from those who believes there is none to shed. These days? Buddy... check your calendar... this album is only about 7 years old. You can't say something like that for something so recent, and Tom Waits is still doing music "like that".

Honestly, music is not degrading. Pop has always been crappy (even the Beatles were deemed untolerable by critics back then). Just people like to whine about the modern mainstream, when it's never been good.
