  • This commercial is from 1972-1974. I remember seeing it all over afternoon TV back then.

  • OMG..I remember y'all from boro wide

  • Wow.... Just... Wow.

  • I sort of remember this being from the 70s. If it played in the 60s, I wouldnt have remembered it, was too young. My friends and I used to sing this.

  • This is a commercial i will never forget waaaaaaaaaaaaaay back in the day!!!!!!!!!!

  • I never thought I would see this commercial again I loved it then and still love it now! thanks for posting :-)

  • I remember this song but I don't remember this commercial. Either DC TV stations played this in the early 70's & I just remembered the song or this was a song that as kids we sung without knowing where it came from.

I'm glad I finally found this. I didn't find this when I looked before.

  • I remember this commercial when I was a Teen ager...Oh the memories and it actually made me buy Drakes fruit Pies

  • thank you, thank you . thank you for posting this golden gem.....god, it seems like yesterday....does any one remember the DRAKES FRUIT DOODLES commercial where the duck is doing the jerk ( the dance) while the fruit doodles jingle is playing?it is a must see.....if any one has the knowlage of this commercial, please put it on line it is a must see....it was on the air arond 1966-1968

  • this is the second time i watched in today. growing up in nyc during the 70's when you only had abc, nbc, cbs, channels 5, 9 and 13 for pbs.it was awhile before we got a color tv and only when my older sisters were not around i could watch what"i wanted and explored channels and enjoyed it , not like today too many channels and you get stuck watching the science, history and learning channels. youtube is a blessing for those happier times

  • @iraqivetsgtret48 I saw this in nyc too as a KID... I was just telling my husband (last Sat) about Drakes Fruit Pies while we was in the Super Walmart...lo and behold I saw them and hollered! I bought BOTH!

Now I see this...lol GOD IS GOOD!

  • Wow I like TOTALLY remember this commercial, for years I would think of it every time I passed a Drakes product in the supermarket. I was even coming to the conclusion that I had imagined it....!

  • Wow I went to school with Nat's sister. He was also a good drummer back then.

  • thanks for showing me this, yes i love it and cant say i remember it but what fun. for u. the tenant

  • Great to see so many people who remember the good old days of Nat Williams and The Dry Dells.. We're also trying to find the 5 radio spots we did way back then... Drakes Fruit Pies, Ring Dings, Yodels and 2 others that I can't remember. LOL/ When we find them we'll post them too. Who knows maybe some day we'll do a "We're Back" commercial.

The very BEST to you All!

Nat and The Dry Dells... .

  • that is one of my favorite commercials! My sister and I still sing it to this day!!!

We always end with "all right man..." : )

  • Just to see the sisters wearing afros, a far cry from the fried, dead hair of today.

  • love this commercial--been years!!!!

  • So great to see this!

    :-)

  • This TV commercial could have been used in a commercial break of the syndicated "Soul Train" TV show in the 1970's!

  • Man oh man! Sitting with my cousins watching cartoons on Channel 5 in Brooklyn during the 60's and 70's. This was a favorite of mine. I even remembered the words to this song after all these years.

  • I sing this song everytime I see them in the store now after living in a part of the country that did not sell this brand. So, I explained the commercial to my daughter who got tired of me singing the song. I happened to search it here on youtube and it is just as crystal clear in my mind as I described it to my child. What an incredible joy to revisit the past! Yes, channel 5 and 11 were the best for us.Youtube is a blessing! My child sees I am not crazy or just imagining things!

  • I just did the same thing with my daughter tonight in the store when I saw the pies. Had to come on here and search for the commercial.

  • Thank you for this commercial. I cried when I saw this again after 4 decades because it reminds me of when my family (most deceased now) sat together and watched this. We laughed SO hard! What a memory. Thanks again!

  • Did Nat and the Dry-Dels ever record record albums in the 1970's?

  • Hello Heine71,

Sure did :) Actually in the 80's

You can goggle "I'm Feelin Fine","One Of A Kind" or "Loving You" by New World Generation "Rare R&B Soul Collection"

  • The other early-mid 1970's Drake's TV commercials with jingles sung by a certain person I remember seeing that I hope surface on YouTube someday are:

Devil Dogs (sung by someone watching a movie in a movie theatre)

Ring Dings (sung by a kid in school)

  • thank you

  • Ah , my childhood . I used to love this ad when i was a kid !

  • My buddy and I sing this occasionally for fun when we get together. Stayed in our memories all these centuries. We thought we were the only people in the universe who remembered it. I just emailed it to him. Gonna to be surprised. Thanks for the post. Great jingle Nat & Drydells.

  • WOW...I thought I was the only person who remembered this commercial.

  • Oh, and this commercial is definitely from around 1971 and not 1968. I remember it almost as if it were yesterday.

  • Aired from 1970-1971 to about 1974-1975.

  • Wow! I took a chance that this might be on YouTube. Boy, does this bring back memories. We used to love this commercial back in the day.

  • Wow, what a wonderful blast from the past!! Nat Williams was my first boyfriend, and now my best friend, Tiny and Tina Forever. I love the commercial.

    Much Love,

    Tina D.

  • My friend and I "covered" this song in 1974, if you consider two 11 year olds singing it enthusiastically into a tape recorder "covering". 34 years later, hearing the real version is just amazing. Never ythought I ;d have that little slice of pleasure again. What a treat. Nat Williams and the Dry Dells, you guys rock!

  • Thanks for putting this nostalgic vid on the internet! This commercial aired for a few years here in upstate NY in the mid 70's. Believe it or not, I have a 30 year running joke with a friend about this commercial. I would call him, or he would call me and just say.."Gooooood, Drake's Fruit Pies make me wanna cry...then we'd both break up laughing our butts off! I guess we're STILL both easily amused. Infact, we have done it so much, we feel like honorary members of the Dry-Dells!

  • If anyone has pics or films of The Bronx Boro-wide Chorus, Featherbed Lane Freedom Choir, Black Student Union of JHS 82/Bronx or The Musical Drama/Dark Lady & Black Is, Please post them!!

What a wonderful and culturally rich time we all had and experienced together!

Thanks DB.... Love you for that...

    Peace

    Lekan

  • It's nice to finally have a record of the work (Big up's to Karen and Nat) to show our children and family alike a glimpse of what we did back in the day. This group, along with others under the direction of Dennis Bell performed all over New York City with Choirs, Drama Groups, Small Ensembles and Bands etc. Places like Carnegie Hall, Lincoln Center, St. Patrick's Cathedral, East Harlem, Central Harlem, 125th Street and 7th Ave, South Bronx, Fordham Rd. etc.

    Peace

    Lekan

  • In response to the comment from Mrblue:

It aired in 1970 and ran for several years (2-4yrs) nationwide. When I entered Berklee College of Music in 77' (Thanks to DB) my mother was constantly getting calls from friends and family members in the south claiming that it was "still" airing even though we had received ltrs. around 74/75 stating that the commercial was finally being terminated .

    Peace

    Lekan
