I was the largest YES fan in my neighborhood in the early 70's. I took so much criticism for listen to YES all the time. I heard Moon Madness on an FM Station and loved it. Borrowed my buddies LP and never looked back. There are only 2 YES songs I can listen to these days, but for Camel, It never gets old. That's the real test. The test of time. (Finally got into Genesis and King Crimson later on).Allow me to add one more thing "Todd Rundgren's UTOPIA!!! 1974 Live!!
@leosabioni you were not born in the wriong time, to know that you like this type of music is enough, i was lucky enough to have been around when it was played live on the o.g.w.t, i have this album in the attic, enjoy it all, regards from Dublin
What younger folks tend to forget is that some of us older (American) folks are just now noticing Camel as a extraordinary prog rock group from our youth. Camel got some...but not much US exposure back int he mid 70's. I recall hearing one of their songs once on FM radio and being blown away.. but try as I might, could not determine what album it was from...I forgot them for 30 yrs.
The Internet finally answered my question... I am amazed Camel never broke through in the US. A different era.
I used to have the vinyl of Snow Goose. Great album to chill to. I saw them live at the ICA about 1972. They were great live "because they could play" would you believe. Peter Barden had really long fingers, a good trait in a keyboard man.
@rayray66 ...Mikael Akerfeldt sites Camel as one of his biggest influences and thier album Moonmadness in particular. Wannabes? Dude, this is from 1975. Mikael Akerfelt was about 2yrs old fer fuck sake!
@dharmaseed Indeed, with all due respect, Camel play in a totally different league than Opeth. When they will be able to produce an *immense* masterpiece such as "The Snow Goose", they will have reached the level that Camel has achieved some good 30 years ago or more :)
Is Andy Lattimer one killer guitarist or what?He can sound like David Gilmore at times but Camel's music is much more symphonic and much less driving and angery.
HAHA there's someone here trying to compare Van Halen with Latimer? Kids, be patient with our new fella, he's now discovering ROCK. Time will tell him.
Finally found it !!! this is some of the music me and my mates used to listen to, while bombed out of our heads on acid when we were in the 6th Form. If only I could go back to the 70's *sigh*
Magic, not many bands like this about anymore, there are some top acts still flying the flag Flower Kings, Dead heroes Club, Pendragon etc but what with Simon Cowell & the gang music like this is a dying art :(
fantastic band, saw them in the 70s, 7 times, each time blew my mind, dont think any of the new bands could compete with the 70s prog bands, they used to play live all the time thats the reason they became so good playing together, elp, crimson, camel, caravan, rush, tull, moodys, fantastic stuff,
If you like "Camel" you might like to check out the "Ozric tentacles"....A sort of psycadelic pink floyd but have talent......check out a track called "Sunscape"....they play ...not just make a row.
This session wasn't helped because the studio lights were very hot and put Latimer's Strat slightly out of tune during Rhayader goes to Town, but the BBC hadn't time to re-record it.
Estimated friend, if you want to listen again this song and an endless number of successes of the love I suggest you to visit Radio MUSICA PARA MIMOS - looks for his direction URL in Google ( search Musica para Mimos in Google)-. best romantic music of all the times in Internet, is great, is very good ...!!!
I've been grinning all the way through this. I had the album at school and it's is the first time I've heard this for thirty years!
Other commentators here are right that anything like this would be laughed at in the music industry nowadays. Gotta say though, the woodwind arpeggio bit in the middle is straight out of Midsomer Murders.
boah, that's amazing, what doesn't amazes me is, that bands like camel wouldn't have a chance to become really famous nowadays, becuase of the music industry....it's extremely hard for good bands like 'The Grand Green' that still play this kind of classic psychedelic rock to become big, but i have still the hope that real music will come back one day :)
@NealParadies Para ti, no mas decirte que The Camel ya vino a México y son mas de 30,C.D y 15 DVD sigue disfrutando de tu musica de parchis y todo esa misicade plastico
@NealParadies Well I have some good new for you look up the band graveyard they formed in 05 but they sound like the 60's and 70's stuff it's groovy stuff.
@NealParadies Perhaps if western kids spent less time in macdonalds and playing xbox and more time with an instrument or a book then maybe, just maybe we wouldnt have ended up with a mainstream youth culture that worships the mundane, shallow, greedy and profane and instead one that appreciates talent and knowledge. i play this kind of music and if i become famous one day....ill tell everybody this on national TV.
@garfieldingeniero son muy buenos! no entiendo como tanta gente tacha de locos, satanicos y drogadictos a artistas como estos, y prefieren educar a sus hijos con canciones sobre sexo facil y perdicion.
@luiscambau Well at first, to compare van halen with camel, It is know nothing about music, maybe when you'll get more sensitive to music, u will understand that is not necesary to be fast for being a Great musician, example: Eric Clapton
Van Halen's OK if you like that kind of guitar playing. Yes, he's derivative and formulaic but he gets round the fretboard quickly and with decent accuracy. However, that alone doesn't make him great.
Really great guitarists like Latimer evoke mood and emotion. They know EXACTLY when to play a note and how long to hold it for. Latimer can shred as well as anyone if he chooses to (he used to) but, unlike you, he knows there's more to guitar playing than speed or technique.
refreshing versus other forms of rock, or trance and rave. Reminds me all my old Camel albums are back in Michigan. each style of guitarist is different but some unlike Eddie van Halen or even Joe Satriani at least play the notes they intend to without slurring or not picking individual notes. Yngwie Malmsteen is similar though he uses a different form in his rock as well. Another once known is the band Curved Air similar to Camel but making music a decade earlier.

@Entity79 I agree also you can play as fast as you an but if there is no feeling then it's what you call deathmetal and we'll that music makes me wanna kill myself it's just sad but then again top 40 ....but anyway another good guitarist who puts feeling in there riffs is alex lifeson from rush or steve hacket from genesis(early genesis peter gabrial days) all have feeling and play as a band not to show off
@zackjp before saying shit about Death Metal, talk about Pop, Rap, and all that bullshit... There are very talented progressive death metal bands like Opeth.
always great since i knew them 1987 ..... diving dob and their music in the red see i ll never forget how i had wonderful time in their sprite of music
I always feels sorry for myself when I take the longest to set up because Im the drummer but Im just glad Im not the Keyboard player in this !! :/ gotta love modern technology - it beats carrying round 4/5 huge electric pianos!!! :P
Wonderful. Probably the best melodic rock (and no, that's not an insult) you will ever hear. The wind section is a bit cringeworthy on listening now, but the band were fantastic at this time. Andy Ward's drumming is great, Andy Latimer's guitar playing excellent, and how we mourn the great Peter B. I watch loads of stuff on YT but remembering seeing this on OGWT and being amazed all those years ago I nearly always play this as the last clip before I go to bed.
to be very honnest i'm one of the few who is not a fan of this album... their 2nd lp...their fourth their fifth and even their sixth (breathless) gives me much more pleasure to listen to... ...I've listen to Snow Goose just 2 times...it's probably not enough... maybe that a third time will at last deliver some of his hidden treasure... after all this song seems quite enjoyable
@BohemianConspiracy look up excerpts from the snow goose and watch the third video that comes up, different song list than this one and if it doesn't make you love this album
My friends prefered the Snow Goose for bunning it out to but I loved Mirage a tiny bit more. Then egg and bacon sarnies! Snow Goose is amazing though.. still.
Una música maravillosa!!

Andy Ward's drumming is great, Andy Latimer's guitar playing excellent, and how we mourn the great Peter B. I watch loads of stuff on YT but remembering seeing this on OGWT and being amazed all those years ago I nearly always play this as the last clip before I go to bed.

what a great band . Saw them a couple of times in 1975 in St.Albans, Herts. Note perfect each time!

to be very honnest i'm one of the few who is not a fan of this album... their 2nd lp...their fourth their fifth and even their sixth (breathless) gives me much more pleasure to listen to... ...I've listen to Snow Goose just 2 times...it's probably not enough... maybe that a third time will at last deliver some of his hidden treasure... after all this song seems quite enjoyable

@BohemianConspiracy look up excerpts from the snow goose and watch the third video that comes up, different song list than this one and if it doesn't make you love this album
i don't think anything will

My friends prefered the Snow Goose for bunning it out to but I loved Mirage a tiny bit more. Then egg and bacon sarnies! Snow Goose is amazing though.. still.

I am convinced that I grew up too late. I would have loved to be into this as a teen in the early 70's.
