They needed to crush the Roman infantry on one end of the line, or the other. Presumably the Caledonians had a numerical advantage, in terms of the number of infantry regiments. It's difficult to see what's going on, but the Roman cavalry is unexpectedly stronger than theirs. TBH it's difficult to see how they could win, unless they have a big infantry advantage. It doesn't look like they have one.

It's so pointless to speculate. Imagine seeing a simulation like this for the first time in your life, with almost zero understanding of ancient tactics, weapons and cultural difference. Their given 15 minutes to somehow magically create a sense of understanding of the situation.
The entire show is nothing but rushed decisions made with almost zero knowledge base. Of course it can be made watchable, but it could as well be played by monkeys as it's nothing but sheer luck what they decide to do
how can you get the cool barbarian infantry. is there a mod for this ause i want to download it on rtw and play a barbarian faction like britannia and use those units on time commanders and play it on rtw
They're doing very well, but this seems to be a very hard scenario. I think this is the first time I've seen the Romans come out on top in a cavalry clash, and it seems to really be hurting the Caledonians, with the right flank collapsing.
I reckon using the cavalry and chariots to engage the Roman cavalry is acceptable... if they push 3 or 4 of their many infantry blocks forward to follow them.
The Legions are still out of the engagement, and that's give them a chance to destroy all of the Roman cavalry, giving them mobility control to apply large amounts of force on smaller chunks of the Roman Legions.
wow. terrible use of the calvary. absolute mess. wat should do is try to create a gap in the center aand charge her calvary into thar gap breaking up the lines.
terrible use of calvary, I would have ran the roman calvery away from the main battle and used the chariots to flank the roman infantry from the rear finally running the calvery back to the main battle and flank the romans.
you can also break the roman flanks but that will create a gap in your center. this gap can work in coledonian advantage becuase you charge in your central gap with cavalary
The key to winning against a more trained enemy is using those numbers to hold the enemy and push. They should have doubled their line rather than thin it out and used the second line of infantry as reserve.
the archers should always be used with the infantry to hit the enemy as they progress up that hill (hill = extended range)
The cavalry should have been kept at the back and used to counter the enemies flank attempts on the infantry bulk.
hmm.. that's why you always need to concentrate your cavalry and keep 1 or 2 units in reserve. Use your main cavalry force to launch an all out attack on the enemies front cavalry line and be sure you hit them all. Then use your reserve cavalry to outflank the enemy horseman and attack em from behind.
Mhoa, I don't think so.. Chariots scare horses, so I think they should have used there chariots in a direct frontal attack, and then let the rest of the cavalry flank the Roman cavalry.
It is always best to use chariots as a quick attack on marching oppents. Although they are good in major battle heavy infantry can take them down. Chariots are best to cause casualties early on after that in a major battle they can cause casualties on your side. They are best for catching units on their own.
Seasons greetings!

Thats because this Roman army is using auxiliary cavalry.

I see. Use the chariots as expendable psychological weapons.

Hm. Their formation's spread out. Their first mistake was to use chariots in a cavalry fight.
Great teamwork, though.

archers are no more use in close combat involving both sides because of risk of friendly fire. LOL.
gothenburgmark 3 years ago 2
They should have used their chariots and archers in a frontal attack ahead of the infantry, and used some fast infantry on the flanks.
Tareltonlives 3 years ago
They keep on sending the archers in back, where they just fire on their own troops. They should have put the archers in front to tease the Romans
