  • @billtvmacon2 Ah hah. Hehe. This sums up their changes very well. watch?v=7jHxfJW7Zww

  • @MrEddieRiver And that's an option. I remember when Yahoo was the search engine to use. Things can change!

  • personally don't care if google fallows me, i'm not doing anything illegal, they don't know me in real life, i got nothing to hide. some people care and some don't. it's life.

besides, i got adblock plus installed, i can't see NO ads anywhere, not even on the youtube videos :p

  • I'm actually a huge fan of Google and really like that they're combining all their Term of Service agreements into one. It makes it a lot easier to know what's actually there instead of trying to read every single one for every single service you use.

And I don't think they're wanting to be Facebook at all. Google is already WAY greater than Facebook. Google+ is an attempt to tap into Facebook's market, yes, but Facebook is copying more of G+'s ideas than the other way around. Yay competition!

  • @RLHawk1 You may be right. I often phrase things poorly. They want the monetary success that Facebook has managed to accomplish with relevant ads. And, I think they'll do well by it. Wonder what it costs to run Google for a day?

  • @billtvmacon2 Oh you didn't phrase anything poorly! And I wasn't criticizing you at all. I'm a huge fan of all your videos! I was just joining the discussion. :)

Google pioneered the relevant ads thing for ages with gmail and stuff, and that's how they make way more money than Facebook and offer so many huge free products. Just now they're wanting to combine info from all of those services.

About cost, back in 2009 it was around 2 million per day for YouTube alone. Usage has quadrupled since.

  • ... And I always thought an itchy nose meant money! Or, maybe that's for itchy elbows. Who knows... someone should google it. (Oh, the irony.)

  • @TheMarchStudios I sure hope you're right!

  • --Ads are ads, who really cares about them? With that said, I fail to see the point of receiving relevant advertisements in exchange for privacy being infringed upon... to which we are forced to submit only as there are no other alternatives to access these websites. In short, Google is a monopoly.

  • @TheMarchStudios It all changed when Google decided they needed to start making money. And this is the result. Ads are the least intrusive way to get that done. They could ask us to pay for it. I wonder how everyone would feel about $5 a month for anything Google?

  • Seeing as I use Google for neither a search engine nor mail, and wouldn't have anything to do with it if not for requiring an account in order to use You-Tube, Blogger, etc. This does not necessarily affect me... notwithstanding, this is still found to be extremely irksome.--

  • I've noticed that between now and April, a LOT of things are going to happen for Google. This new TOS, all the You-Tube channels updating to the new design... picnik, a site used some time now for all my photo editing needs, will be closing their website down and moving over to Google+, etc. Heck, with all that they are hastily changing as though there is a deadline, the folks at Google must think the world is ending too!

  • TOSA are like EULA, nobody reads them! There is basically no sense in wading through all that garbage unless you are a lawyer yourself since the "legal" definition of words and phrases are usually different than they are in the real world. Both TOSA and EULA are the price of using the service or software. It's their way or the highway.

I use FF and a bunch of add-ons to bypass ads.

Google, like Micro$oft, wants to rule the world. If they ever team up we're in deep trouble. Oh wait! Linux!

  • @Harpmaker44 Exactly! Great points.

  • I heard something about Google's ToS, but thanks for giving us an actual overview of the change! As a result of this, people will undoubtedly be annoyed, but nobody's going to stop using Google because of this, and I already get ads from some websites based on my history on their sites, so I don't think much will change as a result of this!

  • @TheL1ttleGuy I know I'm not making any change of plans. It's really funny because when I start watching lots of music videos the ads are really music oriented. When I watch my own videos the ads are for anti-nausea medicine.

  • It's a mother in law that want's to sell you stuff. Orwell could never have imagined the extent to which our actions, preferences, interests, and associations could be tracked. No way to escape except to pull the plug, is there?

  • @mickeleh I agree. Google has been a good steward of information and I do think they just want to include relevant ads. I've never had a more dependable e-mail service.

  • I worry the future of Information.

  • What is really needed is a Terms of Service agreement with CONGRESS! If they violate the terms under which we elected them we can terminate their service.

I have no problem with ads on YT. I can choose to ignore them as easily as I ignore ads on TV or on the side of a bus. But if I'm in the market for something...I know where to look.

  • Ads are great. Example: I watch/click every single ad on Barry Aldridge's videos I watch. I know that Barry is an indie guy doing everything on his own. Why wouldn't I want to support him by watching his ads and not blocking them? Something to think about. There are plenty of indie artists on YT that make revenue from ads. These are folks we all subscribe to. It is necessary to support them in any way we can if we care about the indie community here. 99WAYS had ads ; )

  • Google can target all the ads they want at me... I use a modified HOSTS file and see no ads anywhere... not here on youtube, not on any sites. (a modified hosts file redirects all known ad servers as well as shock porn sites and popups to your localhost, in effect preventing ads from ever loading)

Google "how to make the internet not suck", it's the first result.

  • Well, that´s how google makes money, and in return we can use their services "for free". I can tolerate some ads on youtube and other google sites. The other option for them would be to charge a monthly fee to use youtube or google translator (which I have to use a lot) and google maps. The only problem with ads is that it does and will even more go out of hand.

  • That said, until they remove the "no joke, you're today's iPhone 4s winner" ads, that link to "you're a potential winner" that link to "we're going to charge you £10 per message per week, 4 messages a day" type of thing, a lot of AdSense will still irritate me.

  • The thing is AdSense is mostly rubbish - like TV ads they're irritating and irrelevant. While watching a late-night murder mystery, why would I want a L'oreal ad? However, there's a YouTuber who I watch who has sponsors for his videos, and the ads there are relevant. Cheap cloud-storage so you can back-up your computer, web-hosting, guys fashion etc. We seem to accept ads as a necessarily evil, without realizing they can be good, informative, and helpful.

  • good morning! *sips coffee* i've been told that an itchy nose is a sign you'll kiss a fool... lol love your videos..
