Union members are such tools. No individualism at all. Just drones needing people more intelligent than them to arrange their work situation. How pathetic.
Sorry guys! Housing is tanking and in Cali it has come to a complete holt, they actually have a very large surplus of houses that have not hit the market yet. A second foreclosure wave is coming, especially in commercial real estate and to make it worst the stimulus package is not working from 2010-2013 hold on tight boys your'e in for a ride.
Crybabies. Don't blame your union. Get a different job. Go look for a non-union job and rely on your talent to get hired. Entitlement does not work. Squeaky wheels get replaced.
$40.77 an hour are what illegal immigrants make in chicago as union carpenters. yes they are taking jobs Americans want and the union does nothing to stop it, some bullshit brotherhood.
@rateduploaded - amen. Unions aren't worried about anything besides increasing the number of people unionized, and increasing the size of their slice of the pie.
@hoffa437 - It's what happens in a recession. Non-union carpenters that cost half the price of unionized will always edge out the union. If these men want employment, they need not do more than drop the union membership.
The deal is simple. The only thing the International & Regional Councils care about is the total Man-Hours generated for the Pension, Annuity & H & W Funds - period.
Fact #2 - There are too many new members, so hours get watered down, particularly in economic downturns.
Fact # 3 - Your hours, on a yearly basis continue a never-ending decline, while the fund(s) maintain a total increase in hours. They maintain their do-nothing positions by selling out the men & by not allowing a VOTE!
Ask Dick Hardesty of L22 the kind of Man-Hours which were generated at San Francisco International Airport. He was the Carpenter Steward.
Ask him how many man-hours of O.T. were generated via Change Order by dollar bill. He knows who I am! I was in management but never forgot where I came from and made sure that every change order generated the max possible hours for carpenters.
We put up with the same crap here. Time for new leadership from the top down.
The SFCode requires 50% Local Residency Hiring Policies on all Publicly Funded Projects. Change the Mobility clause in your next Union Contract. Demand a Vote for your Busness Agents every 3 years
They are hypocrites & the majority of your elected officials have "Absolutely Zero Business Acumen or Real World Experience" to generate the jobs you desperately need.
Bottom Line No Vote-No Accountabilty. SF needs another SFO type project, not $2.8B as falsely reported by the SFC, but $4.1B spent.
If there are no jobs, how are you going to work, Find another career , dont pay dues if your not working .Unions cant force companies to hire you, if they are union contractors they can hire who they want and they must sign up in the union. It seems you guys are blaming the wrong people. your own...........
The average carpenter is like a sheep! We will continue to let Piggie McCarron and all the little pigs around him to live high on the hog off our hard work. The Local 214 LEADERS ARE RUNNING OUR LOCAL INTO THE GROUND WHILE WE STAND FOOLISHLY BY AND ALLOW IT! Look at all the compensation Pig Platt gets each year and the average person like Duddly Peffly continues to just hope retirement goes well. When will the UBC CLAIM WE OUR BROKE? Who will pay???????
Right on, you San Fran carpenters keep up the fight and all us carpenters will benefit. We got a bunch of sheep up here in the Portland area who will not stand up for unjustly fired business reps. Three days after the election the EST Doug Tweedy fired 4 business reps. One was the candidate who ran against him the others were openly supporting a change in leadership. His reason is they were unhappy with his leadership. Union reps need to organize their own separate union for representation.
