  • DAVID SPADE?!

  • What are the tabs for the 3rd arpeggio cant find it :/

  • are there tabs for thiss??

  • @13daviscj you don't need tabs, they're arpeggios

  • @13daviscj They`re Aminor - Bminor Fitht Dism and G sharp Major

  • Sooo Clean mann!

  • if David Spade had a child with Alexander Skarsgård

  • they make it look so easy :(

  • if I could play it as fast as he did before he played it at full speed, I'd be happy

  • can you pls do a tutorial on how to play:

To Thou Who Dwellest in the Night (guitar solo)?

    thank you

  • great playing. but sounds like you have a massive ammount of compression going on in that tone ?

  • excellent, good job dude

  • Clean sound man. Really sounds good but you really do look like David Spade it has to be said lol.

  • do you mute the strings with your picking hand to make it sound so clean?

  • @stensturedenstore For effective muting you need two points of contact...so both left and right hand must mute at the same time.Check out my video if you like to see how you can effectively mute with your left hand.

  • Could someone please enlighten me a bit of how E Major correlates with A minor. Wouldn't it be Am/Bo/CM/Dm/Em/FM/GM using triads and Am7/Bm7b5/CM7/Dm7/Em7/FM7/G7 using 7th chords. Or is this melodic or harmonic minor?

  • @illucid1982 In a minor key you use a leading tone (raise the 7th scale degree, which makes the V chord major,) to create the sense of tonic (so its going to be harmonic or melodic minor, rather than natural). In A minor, that means you have a g# instead of a g, so youve got an EM chord. make sense?

  • The sound is really clean man, good job !

  • Can we get tabs for this? please :)

  • @thepain001 tabs? dude he has just told you which arpeggios and inversions to play.... you really dont need tabs

  • I love his solos

  • I feel like such a noob asking this but if you could find the time to send me a tab of this i would greatly appreciate it. it would be excellent practice.

  • for those of you wondering what the 2nd arpeggio is

    it is a B minor 7 flat 5

  • That tone is really good

  • this guys solo on Arcturus - To Thou Who Dwellest In The Night, is the A and the OMEGA of all solos.

    \m/

  • there is, a house, in new orleans

  • that sounds so bach!

    thx

  • joe dirt

  • Gode greier .. men du meina vell 1. omvending av E dur -akkorden (Frå Giss) :)

  • The third chords is the same as the 1st one, that being A minor!!!

amazing sweeping, thanks for teaching us!!!!!

  • you should zoom in on the neck so i can see better. thanks for actually teaching something and not being a youtube douchebag. ;)

  • wats that 3rd 1?

  • dude your sweeping is amazing

  • is there tabs for this? if there is can you please post them? it would be greatly appreciated

  • So learning to play this!

    Dam good playin

  • i didnt know david spade played guitar XD

  • @deejdejayy28 exactly what i had thought! lol

  • very clean

  • can u put tabs ? ineed

  • amazing

  • B minor spoon flat 5? Half diminished chord? The ii chord can also be a sub dominant as well as a iv, especially in its first inversion.

  • @Markohoppis

    spoon?

  • if you're able to play??... jk right:D?

  • easy ^^ whoo wants tabs i can send them to him

  • can you send me the tabs?

  • those anyone has the tabs for the arpegios :]

  • Boss. I wish I could sweep like that.

  • Nice and clean, cool. :)

  • what is your gain set on

  • Last chord is an E major triad FIRST inversion, unlike what was stated in the video.

That means you start on the third of the chord (simply put).

Which is the G#(G#3). Then you've got an arpeggio up two octaves to G#5, and back down to B3.

I will now point out that this does not sound classical at all. In classical you wouldn't see the Super tonic chord going to the Tonic chord. It just wasn't done. Try Amin, Bdim, Emaj, Amin.

    You've got a tasty i ii V i progression.

  • Aren't you the smart one. It's just a simple:

    i iv vii^o i

I don't exactly know about all the inversions or the all actual notes but what you said is completely wrong. What he played was indeed a typical classical progression, it also happens to be a circle progression which is seen in classical music all the time.

  • lolz what?

    The progression he played was.....

    Amin Bmin7(b5) Amin E/G# Amin

    Which comes out to.......

    i ii^o/ i V i

It is not a "Circle Progression" (I'll assume you mean circle of fifths).

And, it is not a common classical progression.

The Super Tonic Chord would not go to the Tonic chord.

Except if the Tonic chord was in second inversion, then went to the Dominant chord in root position.

  • all you guys make me feel bad about my knowledge of theory :( haha

  • In fact, the progression you wrote is not a "Circle Progression" either.

(Again, assuming you mean circle of fifths progression.)

  • Your a fucking idiot, i to iv to vii is in fourths which IS a circle progression and the circle of fifths isn't even a chord progression, it's used for knowing which notes are sharp and flat in key signatures when reading music which you probably don't know how to do like every other dumbfuck guitar player. And guess who invented the circle progression. Bach, who is also the creator of classical music in its entirety.

  • There's no need for name calling, sir.

Circle of Fifths IS a progression, used very often in classical, and baroque music. You'll learn about it in you third semester of college theory (hopefully). It is much deeper than a quick way to knowing the amount of accidentals in a key.

    An example would be.....

    vi ii V7 V7/IV IV

See the roots all descend by FIFTHS. Thus the name Circle of Fifths. That fourth chord is a secondary dominant. Essentially the Dominant of the IV chord.

  • And, sorry, you were correct. I was paying enough attention.

The progression you posted is a circle of fifths. Very short, but yes it could be called a circle of fifths.

But, it's still not what he played.

  • And, no Bach didn't create Classical music in it's entirety.

In fact, Bach is considered of the baroque period. He was well before the birth of Classical music. And, Bach didn't create baroque music either. He was one of the last baroque composers. What Bach did create was allot of really great music. I won't deny that. I love Bach, but he didn't create Classical music.

But, Bach's son, Carl Philipp Emanuel Bach, had a big part in the transition to Classical music.

  • I believe Bach's music was considered old fashioned around the time of his death. Classical music was simple, homophonic, and elegant while Bach's music was polyphonic, complex, and ornate, especially considering this penchant for fugues (e.g. art of fugue).

People grew wearisome of the complexity of the late baroque era, and as a result the Galant era (classical music) emerged. Only late in Mozart's life did he begin to immerse himself into the complexity of counterpoint.

  • I've got tabs, but I can't post them here, and I don't feel like sending them.

    But, I'll point this out.

He hits every note in the a minor chord for two octaves, before he gets to the first a (A3) he starts the Bmin7(b5).

The notes in that chord are.......

    B D F A

He skips the first octave, going from the seventh to the third and never plays the highest B (B5). He gets to the seventh, then comes down.

The next chord is the same as the beginning.

  • please send me the tabs........

  • If you want the tabs, it's easier for me to notice PMs than replies.

If any of you don't want to use tabs, just look at the notes in Am, Bm7b5, and E and arrange them in the proper order. This guy's sweeps aren't very hard to figure out.

  • who`s gott the tabs?im working on my sweep pickin and this may really help me alot...

  • It is veeery easy to take out the arpeggios because he said the chords!!! xD Or else your nubbb :P

  • very nice and clean

  • Very nice sounding sweeps

  • pretty cool man :P

  • Thanks for sharing! Great job man keep it up!

  • ggrrr...i can't figure out that last scale XD

    i will get it though

i'm only just starting to get fast and clean enough for neo classical :)

  • For those who thought i was using a hair tie here, that is the string locking nuts. Only to clear up the misunderstanding:)

I only use a hair-tie sometimes when playing complicated 8 finger tapping stuff.

    Carl

  • Do not have the tablature?

  • beautiful sounding setting you have, Thanks again to BlackTeradrix for the tabs anyone else who needs them don't be afraid to ask.

  • :)

I like helping people who love neoclassical work.

  • Hey BlackTeradrix I'd Very Much Like The Tabs To These Arpeggios Send Em To Me in a Message On Youtube.

  • I would also love if you could give me the tabs please, thank you!

  • I would also greatly apprecate the tabs if you have them. Thanks

  • can i also have the tabs

  • That's excellent tone, if you don't mind me asking, what brand of amp are you playing through?

  • Wow if i only had tabs... Damn Nice tho man

  • I can easily tab that out with the backing chords, pm me with your email if you want the tab. Also, tell me if you want it in text or guitar pro 5 format.

  • what does neoclassical mean?

  • perfect answer xD

  • Thanks :D

  • No, hes jsut showing some stuff to people who are willing to learn. I didnt get the imression that he believes himself to be a good in any way..

  • neo classical is basically music based on classical bits that are broken down into arpeggios and scales, and people make cool stuff out of it.

  • thank u

  • @beatch247 Good example, is Children of Bodom's first two albums, if you want something other than what's popular. Both Alexi and Janne learned music theory at a young age and are classicly trained; their early stuff is where they show it most. Just saying. Ha.

  • @beatch247 I love how 'neoclassical' has gotten moved over into rock terminology. (Like 'symphonic prog'... another example.)

Though I guess a classical music purist would have trouble w/ the usage... even when he came to understand the sense in which it's used. (Quizzical visage.. or mixture of quizzical and displeasure.)

  • Clasical motifs played in a rock song and band format. Things like pedal notes, caprices and counterpoint can take part. Usually the most used scale is a melodic minor or the phrygian mode. Can be the short for "neoclassical metal".

  • @luckyguitar123 is harmonic minor usually used too?

  • I´m sorry, can´t find my comment, could you be more specific?

  • @luckyguitar123 "Clasical motifs played in a rock song and band format. Things like pedal notes, caprices and counterpoint can take part. Usually the most used scale is a melodic minor or the phrygian mode. Can be the short for "neoclassical metal"."

  • I guess.

  • THe neoclassical movement started in the 1980's and was made popular by a one Yigwie Malmsteen, (a swedish guitarist) what Neoclassical does is: it take elements of rock, and metal and mixes them with classical music.

  • Ok, so the first arpeggio was Am using the Am pattern, what were the other ones? err, what is the progression he is arpeggiating?

  • ei javo volve a bebe deforme jaaja

  • Sounds like Wintersun

  • hvilke mikrofoner bruker du Carl ?? : )

    digger lyden din : D

  • do you have tabs for this one too?

  • Good lord his playing is ridiculously clean!

  • Well it's probably as clean as any other player's but notice the hair tie at his first fret..

  • Ah, that would make sense. XP

  • Thats not a hair tie dude, its the locking nut. Look at how wide the first fret would be if that was a tie. Give the man the credit he deserves, those are clean friggin sweeps.

  • Yeah, huh. So my original point stands. Crazy good!

  • Hair tie? Sure looks like nut locks to me.

  • the first 2 sweeps sounded like suicide silence no pity for a coward solo

  • Isaw this vid about a month ago and now I can play it :D

  • fuck! it looks so easy but it must be the hardest thing to do on a guitar! i rly wanna sweep like that!

  • actually there is a more advanced peice similar to this. Its a sweep+tap. thats one of the hardest thing to do on guitar with really clean playing.

  • not with that attitude

  • beautiful lick...

    just love it...

  • Tabs!?

  • beautiful sweep :)

  • dude you rape sweep picking. So clean and clear and its awesome.

  • oh my god! thats so fucking awesome! give me your skills! =D

  • how dose he sweep so clean

  • Its pretty simple to sweep cleanly if you know how to mute with both hands, and you also have to have good synchronization with the left and sweeping hand. arpeggios aren't really that hard to play if you know some and do a little practice.

  • it's practise...

  • no its not loser lol

  • nice one

i will practise this till death cause i wont be able to play it that tight even when im old and salivating ^^

  • i wish i could do that but my tone sucks too much

  • well what sort of tone is it you want?

  • i love sweeping. its so hard at first but once you get it down you feel like god and its so much fun.

  • Perfect.5*

  • pretty awesome. 5/5

  • Very clean, good tone, nice combination, thanks for sharing.

  • Wow, not bad for the key of Am. heh

or wait...what this A HARMONIC minor?

Coz I hear him play an Emaj arpeggio and Emaj consists of E G# B...so it had to be harmonic minor then huh? A B C D E F G# (A)

  • He said A minor, so it could have been natural or harmonic. Or even Pentatonic (but it obviously isn't).

  • that was excellent...u're very good.....btw, how did you chose those arpeggios , is it like somekind of progression or something?

  • rip Arcturus

  • Very clean, nice man!

  • crap that was clean

  • do you have tab's for this it way too cool

  • dude. just look up the scales he told you to play. then play it with the fingering you think feels best.

  • I'll get flamed for this im sure but w/e..

I could play this to speed, but I have a lot of trouble figuring out the shapes. Yeah I know, im a slave to tabs, but if I wanted to begin to figure out how to map out shapes like the ones shown here, how would I do it?

  • Just use your ears! Train yourself to pick out the notes and always make sure your guitar is in tune. The shapes are pretty much all your open chords, barre chords etc. Experiment. Once you have the technique down then you can try make up your own.

  • or just use music theory. If you know it's Am (actually Am harmonic in this case), you'd better come up with the chord prog right away (Am Bmo C Dm E F G). And of course you should be able to memorize the chord patterns on guitar.

  • fucking sick.

im going to learn this right now, im slowly getting obsessed with the neoclassical sound.

  • uhm, I dont know shit thats why hahahha but its been 3 mother fucken years and I still cant get a goddamn sweep arrpeggio...but w/evers dude good video

  • the key is starting SLOWLY. i mean, ridiculously slowly. It's really boring and repetitive, but when you get it down, it's one of the most rewarding feelings ever. But remember, slow, and oh yeah, a metronome is also needed.

  • In that case luckylucka77 try using a relatively hard minimum 1mm pick and try doing it again. Change to low gauge 9s if you have to.

You have to get a feel for the string-drag on the plectrum as you move up and down. Split those fingers up especial distance between forefinger and pinky. Make sure you're muting well with both hands. The idea is only 1 note is sounded at a time. Minimise handling noise and experiment moving up and down the neck. Post a vid if you're stuck and need help

  • clean as hell

  • if ur looking for tabs stop.

id take up sum theory and learn all the chords so you ll never have to ask for sweep tabs again.

lol and he tells u the chords he s using.

    pretty simple

    a minor b minor and e major

  • lmao exactly. Even if they didnt know theory its still pretty easy to do by ear.

Anyways on the licks part, simple and good. Liked it.

  • The Guitar Grimoire is an AWESOME series for learning. It won't teach you how to play any songs, or how to make music, but give you all the tools you need to create your own. If it were to teach you "licks" and "riffs", thats what you would learn, not the scale, arpeggio, inversion, etc. Build a good, solid foundation of knowledge and procede in the arts that inspire you. Awesome vid Tideman. Keep inspiring us.

  • nice & clean!

  • Nice shredding!

  • Amazing sound! and super clean.

If any one has a guitar pro tab for this could you send it to me?

    thanks.

  • nice sweeping oh and UG FTW

  • thanks for the lick i really enjoy it

  • fucken awsome dude can u do a video of u play it in a d minor?

  • You do the same exact thing, except starting three notes higher. What's the point (without sounding too harsh)?

  • He isn't playing exactly the same, he is playing B minor 7 flat 5 (which he also kindly tells us)

  • have you got the tab?

  • can sumone reply to me on how to find an arpeggio

  • well i uploaded the tab for this at ultimate guitar . com just under symphony x...

  • what did you title it?

  • gave me ideas. thanks
