This isn't a Nirvana song, this song was written in the 1800's. Nirvana covered another covered version by Leadbelly from the 1940's. Noone knows who originally wrote and performed the song, it was just kind of a traditional American folk song that was passed down from generation to generation. Kurt Cobain just sweated LeadBelly's nuts really bad and people are too dumb to realize that Nirvana covered it and mentioned Leadbelly right before he played it.
