To all of u hating Ugandans for their surprise at the "help": This war has gone on for about 25 years and no help had been sent all this time. The Ugandan army fought the LRA until they left Uganda and have in the past 1 to 2 years been in the Central African Republic and DR Congo. Why is it at this convenient time when Uganda has just discovered oil,that the US sends in troops yet the soldiers are now based in Congo. Please before you insult Ugandans, first research more about the issue.

Sending troops is not about getting Kony, there is more than the US public is to know. It is know throughout Uganda that Kony is not there. Him and his troops have been pushed into DR Congo & S. Sudan and have been for at least 2 years. I spent the summer in the northern regions where hundreds have been slaughtered but it is peaceful now. If the US cared about saving the people we would have gotten involved many years ago. This is some scheme to infiltrate other African nations for power.

It took 25 years just for the government to understand just how big this issue was. The economic crisis has no influence over the fact that we have a responsibility to help our fellow man. President Obama also signed a bill saying he would help Central Africa before this oil was found. It took the media this long to report on it.

Uganda has an oil reserve recently discovered under Lake Victoria that is said to possibly rival Saudi Arabia. The day Barry the NATO bomber sent troops to Uganda there was an oil vote in the Parliment. It is literally illegal for the US president to use the US military for anything except US national defense. Defending Uganda is as illegal as defending Al-Qaeda, which Barry also does. This is not about oil. The United States is incredibly rich in oil and gas. However, the EPA regulations prevent us from exploiting those resources for fear of so-called man-made climate change. If this was really about oil, it would be easier to lift EPA restrictions, than to get into another military conflict that would be politically poisonous for the president. So the war-for-oil theory doesn't make sense.

The African Union force shd be the first to intervene and if any country want to help fight against the LRA, that country shd send logistic support to the African Union forces (they know the area better and the LRA better). @badgeless you know, I have actually worked for humanitarian missions in Vietnam (90s), Zambia (late 90s), Congo (00s), Yemen (late 00s), Pakistan (last year) - I think you are reading it all on the news and have formed you own opinions. These fighters have no military bases to wipe out, often have no uniforms and will pick away at the U.S. mighty forces until the U.S. leave in defeat. This is not about oil. The United States is incredibly rich in oil and gas. However, the EPA regulations prevent us from exploiting those resources for fear of so-called man-made climate change. If this was really about oil, it would be easier to lift EPA restrictions, than to get into another military conflict that would be politically poisonous for the president. So the war-for-oil theory doesn't make sense.

This is absolutely about oil and nothing else. If it is really about defending human rights, how about help the Somalian government to fight against the Shababs that have for many years now blocked a democratic process in Somalia and created a huge humanitarian disaster (famine)? Somalia is a dry land without any resource therefore military involvement of western countries is not of any interest. LRA is not a religious group and has never been one. see my next comment

If the noble intention of the U.S. is to actually to police the world and save humanity from oppression and injustice when will they invade some of the countries with the worst human rights records? North Korea, China, Bahrain, Chechnya (Russian republic), Burma, Turkmenistan, and Uzbekistan, the area of Tibet, and: the most repressive regime in the world: Saudi Arabia. That's a lot of policing to do. Use nukes again. Much quicker. That'll teach the bad guys a lesson.

These so-called "humanitarian missions" "spreading democracy efforts" and "protecting our freedom wars" were lies. All lies. The U.S. has been spending over a billion dollars a day killing people in Libya and they can't send troops into Somalia to feed starving innocent civilians?

How many countries can the U.S. invade? Why is what happens in around the world always the problems of the U.S.? Why police some countries but not others? The U.S. is 16 trillion $ in debt. 25 % of the homeless in the U.S. are veterans of U.S. wars. Poverty for Americans is increasing. Schools are running out of money. Health care is not available to all. Yet the U.S. spends billions of $ running around the globe pretending to be the good guys. Does this make sense to you?

@badgeless you know, I have actually worked for humanitarian missions in Vietnam (90s), Zambia (late 90s), Congo (00s), Yemen (late 00s), Pakistan (last year) - I think you are reading it all on the news and have formed you own opinions. Ever meet a child solder? Sure, its not ideal that its the US, and sure its not great that there is some exploitation - but most of the violence in these people is not something the US or anyone else did. Its done by like on like. The LRA are really bad.

WW2 needed to be fought. But haven't you learned the U.S. cannot defeat fighters determined to resist the U.S. to the death? These fighters have no military bases to wipe out, often have no uniforms and will pick away at the U.S. mighty forces until the U.S. leave in defeat. There was no victory in Vietnam, Iraq, and now Afghanistan. Afghanistan has not been conquered since Alexander the Great and they won't be now. Pointless bankruptcy and death. How many times?

Besides the LRA knowing the terrain very well, i do not think U.S. special forces should have a hard time with thim . There are less than a few thousand of them. the LRA must be stopped. They are raping women , turning out child soldiers, killing people in the worst ways. If America says they are a force for good in the world, they would be hyporcrites not to prevent bloodshed by the LRA.
