I remember where I was and who I was with when I heard this song for the first time. It occupies a huge place in my heart and the hearts of those who suffer from depression. It's beautifully written, performed and captures a place we are all in at some stage-usually when sleepless between the hours of 2am and 4am. A truly great song from a stellar band.
This song holds such an incredibly important place in my life and the life of my partner. It just speaks to the heart of what it means to suffer from depression to be low and yet still able to question ones existence. Thanks Husker Du-thanks Bob, it's a stellar song.
Best version of this was when he played at the 20th (?) anniversary of Creation Records gig. I had a tape taken from Radio 1 of it, Jo Whiley was speechless afterwards, angst was off the scale about 20 times more emotional than this version. Wish I still had it...
In the over 10 times I've seen Bob/Sugar I've never got to hear him play this song. Thanks for posting. "and you don't want the emotion, but the taste it leaves is for real..."
This song was my anthem when a boyfriend passed away in front of me......Time heals all wounds......LOVE this song, so glad it has been posted, thank you :-)
I love this song . . . I remember when Bob Mould's album was released after the Huskers' break up and this song just stood out as . . . "but nothing's ever real until it's gone" . . .

Back in 2002 when Bob was on the COLA tour he went off set list and performed this. One of the most amazing concert experiences ever.
