Judging it being an old t.v. and probably made out of metal instead of plastic most the way, i'd say it's just metal expanding seeing as a blow torch can get hot enough to expand metal. and glass will rupture when set to a temp. I still think you could of placed some go damn m80's in it..

Did you know that you can implode it with the beam? Just disconnect the deflection yoke, and power it up with bright video or test pattern. It will burn a hole from the INSIDE out, and implode.

CRT's have lots of arsenic, beryllium, mercury, etc. Lots of things that release toxic gas when exposed to high heat and air.

You might want to consider asking a doctor if you should be concerned, as well as leave the window open for about two months.

I remember the "old school" television CRTs that would actually send glass flying in every direction when you threw a rock at them. I think recent advances have made CRTs a lot safer so the glass doesn't go flying.

well the crt is totally empty without pressure

so the pressure on the surface just presses it together

and the torch made a weakpoint in the glass and thats where the pressure squeezed it together
