Hi there: Just got my ewi usb out of the box and my sounds aren't ANYTHING like that. I'm not a tekkie person, so I suppose I need so assistance in regards to setting up the various "levels" for lack of a better term, on the Aria. Please advise. Thanks, KB
Hí, Bernie, Tenorsound was not so good, sorry! Barythone was better! Flute is the easyest sound to play! Oboe OK and good. Clainet sound almost perfect! Bas clarinet Great Jazz trumpet, not so good, harmon was so and so! Flugelhorn, almost, just almost OK! ( lessen to my flugel and harmon recordings) Base, like it! Violins, great! Great synt instrumenet, I will get one soon! Thank´s for sharing info.
Thank you for great videos and so much info on all the Akai EWIs .. Because of you is one reason I got my Akai EWI 4000s .. (bernie you are always so kind on your videos, and I just love my EWI 4000s I plan to get the EWI USB also.. I am also thinking of Las Vegas seminar.. ThankYou again.. My Regards TotallyKenny....
Has anyone tried using the brass-style fingerings on the EWI? I'm a brass player and trying to decide whether it will be worth-while to learn the native fingerings rather than the more limited brass fingerings (less combinations, more-octave rolling).
I have a new Ewi usb, but though the ewi and the computer recognise each other, no sound comes out when i plkay through the aria software, and i cant find the Ewi under my preferences.
@berniesax56 hey i also have a Akia EWI USB.. but am using a Windows 7... its giving me delays on it.. its really annoying,, can u tell me what might be the program? my laptop is a HP G71 series!! i'll look it if u can help me out please!!
do you think it is a bad idea if I start with the ewi instead of learning a saxophone before that? I am not sure whether I need a teacher for that or could learn it by myself, but I guess that the teacher situation will be much worse if I decide to start with the ewi. could you help me with that too?
i think you should learn the EWI first, since it is easier to play, because you don't need a specific embouchure to get good tone. you really wouldn't need a teacher, the manual it comes with has fingering charts, and since you don't need reeds or an embouchure or anything, that would be all you need.
@altdelete7257 and could start as you mean to go on - with the EWI lol surprising how many people are wanting to learn something to then cross-over... just pick it up and play it and have some fun :D
sound very expressive i love it ^^ did you test it on reason 4 ? we can control the synth module with a ewi breath controler but for the usb version i dont know ?
HI Bernie ! Great Stuff !! I especially liked your demo of "The Trumpet"... incredible realisim ! I play a Yamaha WX5, and was thinking about getting the EWI USB... Can you compare the two ? I find doing vibrao difficult with my WX5....Can't control it very well... You do a great job of vibrato on the demo of "The Trumpet" ... is vibrato a lot easier on an EWI ? thanks for any tips !! Luke
There are octave rollers at the bottom (same place where the sax has the octave key)-5 octaves...to crate vibrato you just bite the plastic mouthpiece...to bend the pitch it's a combination of air flow and 2 keys at the bottom...I just got mine a few days ago, I play tenor and this thing ain't all that easy...I guess it only takes time to get used to it (I would hope so)...overall I'm more than impressed with it, and the price....unbelievable.
I picked one of these up recently. I'm using Windows Vista 64 bit and all MIDI output from this thing freezes after a random amount of time. Work great under XP though! The pads are a bit touchy, it's like a clarinet...
In my opinion (a former tenor sax player) the amount of airflow takes some getting used to. it's like blowing through a drinking straw. I may mod mine so that it has some kind of valve to let a different amount of air through... if I can...
interesting... do you like the shape of this version better than the 3k series? I'm watching some performances by masato honda and it seems like the air resistance on that would be somewhat different
I like the new EWI USB better. I've played Lyricon, Yamaha WX7 and WX5, Akai EWI 3020, EWI 4000s and EWI USB. The air resistance fells about the same for all of them. It's just air flowing over a wind transducer and out through a small tube.

Hi Bernie, I have had both the Aaki 4000s and the Yamaha EWI and just hated the sounds they came with {apart from the Nanosynth lol}
I just bought an EWI usb on the strength of YOU playing with Mr Sax-T
I just recieved it and it will take a little time to set it up {it,s awful out of the box!}
but yours with SAX t just blows me away.
Just thought I would let you know that mate,
{you should be working for them!!!}
My best regards Ronnie.

sounds amesome...
but how to learn to play it? should I learn the clarinet first, so I can controll the ewi?
I want to have it, I m just frightened that I will not have the time to learn it well enough
ProdigyOnSpeed 2 years ago
don't learn clarinet first, the ewi doesn't respond to clarinet fingerings.
the ewi responds to saxophone fingerings, flute, oboe, and traditional ewi fingerings, and EVI(electronic valve instrument)
if anything, learn saxophone fingerings, they are the most commonly used.

I ll save my money for the ewi from now on

no problem :]

You could also start with tin whistle. Same fingering as a d flute.

Sounds great, how do the instruments change register is there an octave key. is it played just like a sax to bend pitches?

jamisnemo 3 years ago
you probably shouldn't do that, depending on how the wind transducer works you might completely screw it up
stubert311 3 years ago
@jamisnemo there is a guy on here that has modded his and has an alto sax neck/mouthpiece and bass clarinet neck/mouthpiece

does it feel odd to have air coming out of the instrument but the sounds out the speakers?

Hahahaha, not at all. The air doesn't really come out so fast . . . it feels quite nice :)
