This was in the little fairgrounds stadium next to the old Memphis Chicks stadium.We couldn't march in the Liberty Bowl for fear of tearing up the wet field before the Memphis State football game later that night. This was actually in the Fall of 1984.Since one band had already taken the field, all the bands had to march in the rain. The next year in the Fall of 1985, the contest was called off before it ever began due to heavy rain and thunder storms.

I'm pretty sure this was in the Fairgrounds Stadium on Central Avenue. The Liberty Bowl stadium manager must have kicked 'em out due to the rain.
The contest ended up being called off later in the day. The listing of Bandmasters Championship winners has nobody winning in 1985.

This is the Memphis Mid-South Invitational Marching Band Competition (now The Bandmasters Championship) in the Fall of 1984.
Pretty awesome performance especially in pouring down rain!!!!!!!
