  • whats the point of the split screen

  • @stinkjar3 to show him playing at different angles for better viewing

  • Just a tip I learned from a wise man named Mike Johnston, start using your left hand for everything...draw, drive, pick your nose, make a PBJ, fake chow your girl...it gets your brain and muskles coordinated.

  • @matster27 I wouldn't use it to drive sounds a little risky. Don't you think?

  • @matster27

it also can tangle up your brain . .

  • Dude this would be such a tasty funk beat. Nice vid!

  • I do something similar that I find quite fun to play: I'd guess you'd call it the 2s.

    RLLRLLRLLRLL

  • The intro: the slam by Toby Mac Is te shizit!!!!

    Bottom line!

  • @speeddude960 repent jesus loves you.

  • THIS IS A SIMPLE METHOD, YES.. BUT ITS AN AWESOME WARM UP SINCE IM NOT LEFT HANDED .. THANKS :]

  • Yeah we didn't really need to see that sped up now did we?

  • love the Toby Mac intro!!!!!!!!!

  • Can u only show one person at a time a couldn't really focus. But it was good

  • That was about worthless

  • nice stuff man i need some techniques for my left hand since im right handed i need to speed up my left to be as fast as my right

  • I think Benny Greb covered this on his dvd

  • if i had one wish, it would to be ambidextrous!

  • @dthomson80 Minee would be to be the best drummer, screw ambidextrous! lol

  • its great :D

  • @dthomson80

i would wish to be best drummer, and never have to practice lol

  • @dthomson80 of all wishes in the world ambidextrous is ur first? O.o i see ur very easily pleased my friend :P

  • Thanks!!!

  • killer exercise!, great work...

  • Umm isnt this just the rythmic alphebet from Benny Grebs language of drumming, this is the same excercise. You can just claim something and call it your own. Please correct me if im wrong.

  • @mopedman1 Yeah cuz he would be the first guy in history to steal something...

  • @jordanjcm Lol i didnt say he was the first you dumbfuck, it doesnt matter who does it it doesnt make it right. God damn i swear sometimes people re just looking to argue even though they are clearly wrong.

  • @mopedman1 I have to say that you are right. He should have said something closer to "I go by this exercise" but not "I came up with this exercise". However, you dont have to sound douche-baggy. haha

  • @iPodOperator Douche baggy? im pretty sure that labelling someones elses hard work as your own is the highest kind of douche bag you can be.

  • I've been playing drums for almost a year and my left hand is much better than my right. Mostly because I am left handed. But my real problem is that when I started playing, my left leg was broken so now I play hands lefty and kick pedal with my right foot. So now nothing is to the right of my bass drum. I've been trying to train my left leg to play but I have been completely unsuccessful for about 10 months. Any tips?

  • @Tim37942 I am right handed and what you do is you work or weak side slowly and pick up the speed and just keep working your bad side every day and you will eventually gain speed.

  • Good exercise!!

  • At 52, I'm just getting "serious" and consistent with it. I start by leading or playing left handed before mixing in both sides. Fast or slow, high or low, I strive for speed, power & equal spacing (timing) on singles, doubles, triplets, paradiddles. I use pillows, phone book, newspaper, drum pad (Vic Firth) & whatnot.

Problem: My left hand/wrist feels progressively numb and tingling after awhile. Part of me says its "carpal tunnel" but that I oughta keep playing. Can anyone relate?

  • @speedoflite1 fuck yeah dude. that appened to me. i was practicing blast beats when i started and i felt the same thing. stop practicing. go to the doctor and they will give you a brace for your arm. wear it for bout a month and start practicing slowly and make sure you check your posture and techinique. very important

  • rodrigogsbvh ok, thanks

  • @ Speedoflite1 That happens to me some times, but its always my right wrist, Possibly because i am left handed, and have broken my right wrist 3 times.....but its normal, atleast for me, (16 year old thats been playing 9 years)

  • @speedoflite1 dude. your doing it wrong haha dont play on ANYTHING that doesnt have consistent rebound. thats reall bad for your wrists. stick with the pad when you wanna work on technique;

  • have been playin drums for 14 years.. n still my left hand seems to work slow :S wat i do now is practice all the beats that i have learned.. with the left hand.. it helps a lot! for beginners they could try to play da 8 beat wid da left hand!.. n this vid is awsome! ill try ti !

  • O WOW AWESOME xD

i ever work with my left han... but

i catn do this excersise with the right hand O.O

    why?

i meant in this excersise the lead hand is the right, and is easy , i can do it

but no with the left hand leading

im right handed, do i work the same drill buit leading with the left?

  • I've been playing for 40 yrs, and still work on my left hand. I find myself doing all these basic drills because otherwise I get lazy. Also, you will find you push and push the technique, and then one day, you are doing it without thinking, way cool!!

  • been drumming about 7 months. my left hand still sucks. my i usually spend about an hour a night (sometimes longer) just on my left. my rolls are still uneven. how long does it take? anyone? i mean i realize everyone is different, but am i just hopeless or does it take years for some? granted my left has improved considerably, but it just seems like lately it has really improved much.

  • @digitaldown Ya you won't notice a big improvement for a while. My friend has been playing for about 4 years now and still has some trouble with his left hand.

  • ive been playin 25 yrs now, i still work n work on my left hand, it gets better over time really and youll feel better playing kit the better lefty gets. take a look at moeller and gladstone exercises, n remembr to relax and let your right teach your left,

  • well ok 25 years is a long time. i guess i just have to be patient. i do the moeller stuff. i have not seen Gladstone, but i'll check it out. actually I've had noticeable improvement even since last week. kind of weird how for a long time you feel like nothing is getting any better, but then all of a sudden it does. at least a little. anyway, thanks for the advice.

  • It takes time as you said people are different, I take a while to get my speed up and have to warm up to play. My buddy on the other hand just sits down and kills. Just keep it up you will get there as long as you work on it. Anything good in life takes time so just enjoy the trip. Good luck

  • Are your rolls uneven?

When you are doing a NORMAL roll, is it uneven? Try doing this on a practice pad (or a snare drum) LRLL LRLL LRLL LRLL do that over and over..... you could do this one to LRLL LRLL LRLL LRLL.... Those two made my left hand much better! If you still have problems, well, then tell me :)

    Merry christmas

  • yeah even my single stroke rolls are uneven. my rolls have been getting better though. i've been doing a lot of wrist and finger exercises. like every where i go i'm snapping my wrists, flexing my fingers. in the car, at work, at even just walking around running errands. i'm sure i look like have some kind of disorder, but i don't care. my left hand is way better than it was even just a few weeks ago. i mostly practice patterns with at least twice as many left strokes as right.

    thanks!

  • lol dude yourve only being playing for 7 months this shit takes years to master

  • Well.... The only thing you could do is practice then! If you have some sort of disorder in your hand(wrist or whatever), its just for you to practice more. Im sorry I couldn't help you :(.

I'll tell you if I get any idea of exercise or anything!

    Good luck!

  • i play both but i choose to play right handed

  • i dont really get this trouble im ambidextrous

  • then why are you watching a left hand tutorial?!

  • to improve what i already have (or had as the case is now)

  • our whole drumline had to do that exercise and it was amazing how many people couldnt repeat it without messing up

  • very helpful in a world of useless drum excercise videos A+

  • so your jusr using your right hand to keep time and your left to do double's and triples and such. cool

  • Same my left hand is not dat fast. Hope this video help ! :)

  • i have trouble getting left hand as fast as my right hand so i will definitaly use this excerise. thanks alot man
