  • I wish the Santa Fe was still in exsistance. Their engines were beautiful some engines of the BNSF still wear those liveries but still it will never be the same again. Engines that wear the orange livery of the BNSF aren't quite as exciting.

  • Several engines on the BNSF are still painted in the either the popular red and silver or yellow and blue warbonnet liveries of the old ATSF.

  • bring back the yellowbonnett and bring back thge Superfleet Warbonnett

  • GE may not have much variation in models, but the dash 9 series engines were great engines. stop trashing them. but i will say the gevos are horrible, and the emd sd70 series is HOT. but ge has some good engines ok people?

  • sounds a little more like a Prime 920 then a RS3L

  • WOW nice Lashup

  • Definitely nice to see the old snoot still in charge. I hardly see them anymore in SoCal. Even up Cajon, it's all GE power anymore.

  • i know, EMD is the bomb!!! GE has no variation between models

  • Definitely agree... I superdetailed an HO snoot years ago and sold it, unfortunately. If I hadn't sold it, I would still see the snoot around every once in a while. You can't beat that ol' dynamic sound rollin' down a hill. The wine of an EMD is classic that a GE bog will never replace.

  • @rockguitarist946 GE has been following the same basic locomotive design for 20 years beginning with the C40-8W

  • @atsf484number3751 i know, that's what i said, and before that they were copying ALCO

  • way cool!!

5 stars, and 2 thumbs up!!

  • Great shot nick!

  • probably never see this again but hey i can hope!

  • Damn dude. That's awesome.

  • Ya I have an HO Scail Snoot SD40-2

  • wow...thats something i have never seen. those two emd's will pull those mty's along piece o' cake. thats the way they should do all empty trains...they won't listen to us little trainmen tho.

  • Hiya Nick,

Wow, talk about turning back the clock! What a capture, in this day of boring GEVOs! Outstanding! Just goes to show -- you never know what you might see when you're trackside (that's why digital is so nice -- you can always capture and throw away later if it's boring! With film, that got to be expensive! LOL!) Beautiful RS3L on him... reminds me of a lot of the old Conrail SD and GP40s. Engineer is really working those units, too -- great audio! Congratulations!

    Dave

  • Hi Dave!

Thank you very much! This definitely felt like the old days! I almost forgot what a "GEVO" was when this went by. LOL!! You make a very good point on how expensive it would be for film. Haha! I was expecting some sort of K3, but I was very satisfied with the perfect RS3L horn. I can definitely picture an old Conrail unit with that type of horn.

  • Thankfully, I had just made it to the location to get this one. He was really hammering it when he went by! Thank you so much again for the congratulations!

    Talk to you soon!

    Nick

  • @CP359 I saw a NS Sd40-2 Snoot HIGH HOOD!!! I didn't have my camera though! Is that rare?!

  • Yeah the snoots are still alive and doing well as you can see, excellent catch dude!

  • Thanks very much, James!

  • hey I saw this at Galesburg and I sent ya a video response. but they screwed the damn train up at Galesburg by putting 6201 on the point.

  • Sorry I'm late accepting the video response. I had a feeling the lash-up was going to be screwed up by the time it got to Galesburg. I hate is that GEVO's are pretty much ruling coal trains.

  • dont worry about being late. coal trains arnt the only thing those damn things are taking over. theyre also takin over the freights.

  • Yep, the M GALCSX last night ran with a new 7400 series GEVO in the lead. While I don't hate them, I'd much rather have EMD power!

  • yeah I like the K5HLL's on the new GEVOs. not a big fan of the K5HL. But one things for sure the GEVO/Trash 9 wont be taking over the locals anytime soon.

  • i saw a local with a DASH9

  • wild man!!

  • Thanks very much!

  • WHAT!?!? Non AC, Santa Fe units on a coal train? Dude, awesome!

  • Thanks very much, Matt!

  • Nick I am surprised that they would run a coal train with two former Santa Fe units on the point. What's next two yellowbonnets leading a coal train?!

  • I was also surprised. Hehe. Two of those would be sweet leading a coal train!

  • on our 2006 family vacation we went to chicago! Ofcourse that was before i knew you or boxcarfrank or chicagorailfan or andrewmasaxamaphone existed! I'm happy i'm not the only railfan.

  • Awesome! Did you catch a lot of good stuff? I probably just answered my own question. LOL.

  • sadly no it was a famiy vacation not a rail trip.

  • Ah. Hopefully, you get a chance to come back soon.

  • so do i ! However after chicago we went to the galesburg railroad days. and so many good trains. before i realized how much i enjoyed the old engines and knew how old they were.

  • Montgomery what? Alabama?

  • Illinois.

  • You lucky dog Nick!! Man I'm jelous!! But, if you sit by some important main-line and you see rare things!!

  • I really lucked out with this one. It was a complete shock too.

  • what kind of horn is that? im guessing its a leslie. sounds awesome

  • Yep, it's a Leslie but I'm not 100% sure what type. I would guess it's a bit of a different sounding RS3L.

  • Great catch, nice to see BNSF hasn't gotten to all the pre-merger paint yet.

  • Thanks very much! It certainly is.

  • Added to my quicklist.

  • Thanks very much!

  • Whats a quicklist?

  • its hard 2 explain. Click on the little plus sign on the new vids to add it to ur quicklist...thats all i can say for now...

  • Oooh, ok. I see now. Thanks!

  • I found it a little confusing to when I saw on my screen "Added to your quicklist." I clicked on the video screen and those words came up. It might mean that when you want to quickly get to a video, you can access it.

  • awesome video five stars

  • Thanks very much, Patrick!

  • you've gotta be fucking kidding me!!! A snoot nose sd40-2 with a lelsie and a warbonnet gp60M on a coal train! Lucky you all the the rest of us get gevos on our coal trains. Obviously i'm jealus!

  • I'm happy someone filmed it and captured it on film! I just wish i could see that! Thats a once in a lifetime event!

  • I was shocked myself. It kind of snuck up on me as well. I was in a daze and the gates all of a sudden lowered. GEVO's tend to rule the rails around here a lot, but this train slipped out with good power. Apparently, they put a GEVO in the lead of this train further down the line, leaving the two EMD units trailing.

  • yeah you are lucky, by the time it got to Galesburg it had the GEVO.

great job as usual...I wish i had the time to go get all the rare stuff I see coming.

  • Figures that the GEVO would get put in the lead.

Thanks very much! I've slowed down in railfanning lately, which is pretty unlike me. I got to pick up again.

  • well atleast you get alot of good stuff! You and treys have seen BNSF 535 and when it came to kc we couldn't film it because of a pathetic air show. alsso 8111 came through by the yard while we were watching the planes I was so pissed off!

  • Yeah, 535 is one of the B40-8W's that has a sweet Leslie. I'd love to see that engine again. 8111 must have had a sweet K3LA. I recently caught 8100. It seems that most of the three windowed SD60M's have perfect K3LA's.

  • there also fucking rare on the st joe line! One moring on his way to work dad told me he saw the 8111 again coming in as the leader of a mixed frieght while 8155 or something like that a dual window had a mixed freight and was in the lead waiting to go! Its days like that that i get pissed off and wish i could actully see the good engines that run around the country! It seems like you guys always are getting good stuff every day and i never do. sigh.

  • thats not completly true i've had my moments were i saw lots of good thingsand filmed em. but that doesn't happen often.

  • You getting your license soon? That definitely helps me get around.

  • no. but even whe i do i'll want to come see you and my parents will say N O NO!

  • Hopefully, you'll be able to take a vacation out here soon. If you ever plan to come out to Illinois, let me know.

  • you bet i will! The fist year out of highschool i may celebrate by doing that! As i plan to just have a year of free time before i get my life going! I hope to drive trains for BNSf. what do you want to do?

  • It happens to me all the time too. I'll be in school and I'll get news that something good is coming. The feeling of being trapped with no place to go doesn't feel too good. Haha.

  • if you ever get the chance come for a railfan suummer trip to the st.joesph sub! And we can railfan from NKC to Lincoln nebraska! i'd have to talk to my parents about it. in turn i'd visit you on the chilli sub! i'm sure its living up to its name here in november. at least in kc it is very freezing.

  • That'd be a lot of fun. The Chilli Sub has been living up to its name. Later next week, we're supposed to get temps in the upper 30's and lows in the 20's. Now that's my kind of weather!

  • wow thats really "Chilli"!!

  • I can't wait for the temps to get even colder!
