I bought an Esteban' guitar also, some years ago. From what I have read there are different manufacturing runs, some just terrible, others okay. I got a decent one, in fact it has beautiful tone, the problem is the action is just too high and it kills my fingers, they hurt for days after I play. My lesson was on VHS, not too good, clueless camera work and he's not a good teacher. Only four songs, and just partially! WTF? I finally bought a Yamaha FG700S, around $200 online, MUCH better!
The Esteban DVDs are quite good. He does tell you to improvise but does not show you exactly how to in them. The video poster is playing some scale patterns..which you can learn from other courses. I love the Esteban DVDs and the songs in my opinion very beautiful and reasonably well taught. Like any course there are strengths and weaknesses. Beautiful songs and useful skills but weak on theory.
@DANizDAN there is a big difference between being a guitar player and making sounds come out of a guitar . I don't mean to offend anyone but i just don't consider that knowing a few or even many songs means that you can truly play guitar . It's more about how you play the instrument and understanding how it works. Esteban is a great player , I admit . Try searching for Vicente Amigo on you-tube as well . What's the thing you observe ? ( excepting the fact that he's damn good ) .

His guitars are made in China for $5, check video by MarkHorseman. They are made by hand,probably by 1000 Chinese on one guitar. Make sure you wash your hands after playing on this crap, cause paint is toxic (remember chinese toys and milk?)!

Please ask her to return it. They are not very good instruments, and that makes it incredibly difficult to learn. I would suggest even buying a decent good used Yamaha..or any of the better known brands over these Esteban guitars.
They are difficult to tune, and then they do not stay tuned, even with top grade strings..Sry. Part of the reason I posted this was to show how crappy they sound, even with good strings and fairly decent playing.

If you travel and want to take a guitar with you, or if you go to a beach or when you're camping or anywhere it would be subjected to rough humid environment - you take an inexpensive guitar like this. I would not bring my Taylor or my Martin or Gibson unless it's for a jam or a gig.

im pretty sure that its more than .1 ... with the money spent on the Esteban guitar you can get a better one I bought a washburn classical for about $120 it sounds great and it stays in tune for a long time :D

All that scales and modes and staff shit is absolute bullshit. Equal temperament is one of the most limiting principals of music ever. It's not about know how to read or write music, it's about how to express what's in your SOUL, through the music. The great bluesmen, Robert Johnson, Blind Wille McTell, Lead Belly, none of them probably ever read a note of sheet music. It's about the passion and the sound, not the science.
this is a pretty good piece of music you're playing, shows you have some experience but i hope you didn't pay more than 100 dollars for that piece of wood. you could go to to mexico and get a hand-made classical guitar and i garentee it'll sound alot better than that one.

Esteban is a SCAM ARTIST. It doesn't mean anything that you can play this. He knows nothing about actual music, as in notes and scales. I know plenty of people that can play this, as I my self can surely also. When you learn how to write music, and learn the art of music, then come talk to me. I would say his vidoes are a good start but I doubt a novice could sit down and actually play everything on his DVDs in the first month.

thanks. the song is a snippet of 'Mood for a Day' by Yes (Chris Squire) I taught it to myself when I was 17, with no music sheets or anything, just a vinyl album. The song sounds much better on a Martin, but this doesn't sound bad

All that scales and modes and staff shit is absolute bullshit. Equal temperament is one of the most limiting principals of music ever. It's not about know how to read or write music, it's about how to express what's in your SOUL, through the music. The great bluesmen, Robert Johnson, Blind Wille McTell, Lead Belly, none of them probably ever read a note of sheet music. It's about the passion and the sound, not the science.

this is a pretty good piece of music you're playing, shows you have some experience but i hope you didn't pay more than 100 dollars for that piece of wood. you could go to to mexico and get a hand-made classical guitar and i garentee it'll sound alot better than that one.

It's a guitar..what YOU do with it is whats important. You can get an expensive model when the time is right. I have a Les Paul, and a Martin..but I played this to show it does sound ok. This is without the amp, of course.

Esteban is a SCAM ARTIST. It doesn't mean anything that you can play this. He knows nothing about actual music, as in notes and scales. I know plenty of people that can play this, as I my self can surely also. When you learn how to write music, and learn the art of music, then come talk to me. Learning a song has nothing to do with it, nor does tabulature.

actually, I have a D28, and a Les Paul, and I almost went and spent the extra 400 bucks per kid, but since I started out with a piece of ho-made shit, I just thought I would tune this thing and see wtf it sounded like. I think your the fist person I've talked to who have said it was a nice guitar. I've personally never played one, so I'm speaking only of anothers opinion. It's good to hear somebody say they are nice though. This is the newest guitar esteban has put out, the last didn't have a cutaway.
