It's true, "The General" doesn't truly own the tank in this vid, I had to remove him before my babies actually got hurt, but it does not take long for him to size up other fish and decide that he's not going to cower/back down. The General (the RD/midas) is now 4-5 years old and still has that beautiful color. He has a 55 to himself, but could kind of use a 75 gal now. The trimacs sold for good money, ran out of room for tanks. Pirhanas are wimps and would die quick, as many pointed out

Really awesome fish! Love the color on the RD. However, I didn't really see the RD start to "claim the tank" as you said. They're just swimming around. Sorry, but I'm just not seeing it. That's not to say he wouldn't dominate the tank. But, so far, you've definitely not shown the RD claiming the tank yet.

any one of the fish in this video the same size as a full size piranha would destroy the piranha one on one. Piranhas aren't territorial like big cichlids, they just eat meat, often animals already dead. cichlids kill to defend their territory or fry.
As always people talk about Piranha like they are not aggressive! Red Bellies are not but look at the serra species. I would throw any cichlid the same size in my Mac's tank anyday!

Thanks for the interest. I really lucked out with this Midas/RD. He's always looked nice, ever since he was an inch long. I feed Hikari gold and Omega one. I'd like to think it makes a difference. A hard core cichlid friend of mine recently switched from generic food to Hikari Gold and has seen a huge difference in color in his T.U.I.C. F-1 Festae pair.
do u have a video or pictures of his F1 Rapp's Festae, I love the Festae! I have a gorgeous male that I raised since he was small and now he's not alittle boy anyomre, he's a big boy and needs a girlfriend.
