There was (and still is) a little arrogance in the Russian gymnast community we can all live without I think, and in a way I'm glad Nadia was there to show them they weren't the only ones.
As for Nellie, outside beauty, yes, inside... I'm not so sure!
Nellie declared several years ago something like: "in hindsight, I don't think she (Nadia) was better than any of us (soviets)". You don't have to be Romanian, North American or hardcore Nadia fan to feel upset by that. Not only did Nadia get the 1st perfect score (and the highest number of them), but her Olympic medal count, is higher than Nellie's or any of her competitors, for that matter (Turischeva however had a higher overall count).
But my all-time favorite to watch on the uneven bars was Olga Korbut. She's the most exciting to watch on that event. The '72 Olympics, when she squatted on the high bar and did a backflip!! Wow!!! You don't see that these days.

Nellie Kim's father is Korean and her mother is Tartar. Also, Kim is a Korean surname.
