@IstvanN1961 The big deal is that the bigger the film, the clearer the picture, less grainy, etc. If you were to compare 8mm (home movies) and 55m film, you'd wouldn't be asking what the big deal was. The difference is like that of an entire football field vs. just the end zone, or a 30-room mansion vs. a 3-bedroom tract house.
This is the extended version of Alfred Newman's famous "Fox Fanfare", heard at the start of all 20th Century-Fox films since the end of 1935, when Fox Film Corp. and Darryl Zanuck's "20th Century Pictures" (which initially used the "Fanfare") became one. In 1954, Newman wrote the extended "Fanfare" to accomodate the "CinemaScope" credit following the studio logo...
@StarWarsFan786 23 years before the 'original' Star Wars. Alfred Newman was the composer. I think Lionel Newman, music composer for movies and TV (Batman, Green Hornet, MASH), was his son.
May the force be with you.. Always. Obi-Wan Kenobi.

What is the big deal? 55mm is only a little over 2 inches.
