Live from the cockpit: "This plane is so cool. I am so cool. So much public admiring my skills. Oh wait.. no... wait... oh fuck oh fuck fuck fuck FUUUUUCK (eject noise)"
@itekisan Or maybe it does - when I turn the volume full up, there is a rather damp sound which might be the ejection just before the engine noise stops, and the crash and explosion then would be the surprisingly high-pitched double shot sounds.
@Danfourn5 yup, left engine runnin thats y it rolled to the right and just now a cf-18 headin to CIAS 2010 (look it up) was on approach to Pearson Intl airport. An F-16 and the whole Snowbirds team will fly by too! Oh and it wud've been a nice flat spin if the plane was higher!
Im sure he didnt have time to squawk 7700 and make a Mayday on 121,5 Mhz !! Glad the pilot is OK ! ! This man is a real professional pilot no body was hurt on the ground... ( Remember the SU27 crash into crowd at Ukraine airshow ... !? )
The pilot was pissed drunk! Dropped his lighter on the floor board in the rudder pedals while trying to light up a joint then got disoriented as his glass of rum spilled between his legs at the same time. Bummer dude bummer! Party animal in a CF-18.Party on dude in your parachute and ejecto seat!
The high alpha pass is not tactical you butt-tard. Why don't you go back to selling bras to old women at JC Penney and leave the thinking to real men, like Sylvester Stallone and Larry King
Looks like it wasn't an aircraft issue at all.To my eye he was doing a very low speed high drag maneuver and he simply stalled the aircraft. I've seen the CF 18 do this many times. Probably an over macho aggressive military pilot who just wanted to be better and slower than everyone else. Well, guess what that gets you-------STALL!
@fender4444 the high alpha pass is performed at airshows all over north america every weekend with no issues. it is not a dangerous stunt or trick, but yet a tactical move made by military aircraft do escape a pursuing aircraft. why dont you let the investigation take place and let all the factors involved come into play before you make a remark like this when you have not all the facts.
I was getting my nails done when all the firetrucks and whatnot were flying by. My dad told me what happened when he got back from work. Its luck I wasn't planning on going to the airshow this year.
This reminds me of the Mig29 Paris crash in 1989. Both aircraft were flying at low altitude at high alpha and then experience an engine failure. The Hornets ejection seat appears to have performed better than the Mig 29's.

The sound does not fit, or does it? There's the engine, the ejection - but where is the crash and explosion?

More like engine failure during a high alpha pass, probably below minimum control speed, resulting in an uncommanded right roll.

Low airspeed with high alpha angle = Stall

@fender4444 in the pics released you can see the other engine has shut down which is why he slowly stalled, not a pilot error
