  • no compression or what? ;)

  • God bless the guy that invented the electric starter. I just can`t imagine in summer when you dehydrating enyway in the worst way to have such a work just to get your bike started.

  • @Wurtelsepp can't tell how often i did exactly THAT 5 years ago!

  • Where'd you get those bad ass jeans?

  • if it wasnt for a video camera it would have been push started

  • props for the old school..... need some work on your maintenance abilities.....? jk. Love those harleys... love the old school paint too..... very jealous. ride hard and keep em rubber side down.

Be a man, ride a pan...

  • @ichliebemolly du sagst es! :-)

  • Ways wrong with the thing, lol and they say ducats r unreliable;)

  • nice bike my dad has one just like it there fun to drive

  • It's backfiring thru the carb. Looks like the timing is advanced to far and is firing just b/4 the intake valve is opening

  • buy a straight leg jeans and it will fire up after 4 kicks!

  • kickers are cool lokin but fuck all that shit electric start only way to go

  • Very nice. Thank you for sharing the first light off of your project. Cool bike. I've had my '50 Pan since '62. Most new carbs are designed around electric start. Try closed choke, open/close throttle, kick. Repeat twice. Close throttle. Open a skosh. Ignition on. One kick should do it. Open choke ASAP.

To clear a "flood," open the throttle (no pumping) and kick her through six times. Close throttle. Open a skosh. Ign on. Kick.

    RIDE FREE!!

    Seeya ATB

  • Really.....Are they wearing bellbottoms?

  • my shovel with a super B carb always started 1st or 2nd kick in nice weather.

  • Another great creation by the "Bell Bottom Brothers"!

  • M74 Linkert, Will start easy and run good. Good luck.

  • I got tired just watching this video...I would check the timing or go with a smaller carb...any well tuned Harley should fire right up in a couple of kicks...you're gonna have one big leg and one little leg, LOL

  • starting fluid

  • Needs to alternate legs-otherwise, I bet right leg is twice the size of the left.

Focus that Cam! Nothing like the sound of a pan

  • i would of had a heart attack, , that was a good rythem you had on the first round of kicks, smoke another one johnny, lol,,

  • sehr geile kiste. habt e schän jemacht.:-)

  • so i guess this bike isnt very good if your in a hurry, and you dont want to sweat when youve finaly started it.

  • @thecrazyhenchman

exactly. it´s the worst bike you can have if you plan a bank robbery ;-)

  • @rockstarberlin hehehe, but if you want to arrive in style, thats a whole new story.

  • @rockstarberlin i think it has not been started a long time run a few times and it will start like a new one

  • @rockstarberlin loool....

  • Painful to watch, but nice job guys!

  • 4 Minutes is not too bad... ;-)

I had this shit back in 1997 with my 56 Pan.

The Super E may be a bit to big because of it's long manifold ...it does not exactly work as it should do!

Another problem are the plugs....in seconds of wrong kicking-sequences their ar wet an the hole thing is "out".

    Very cool bike...

  • @SKULLSTON3 you´re right. the super E is to big. i´ll change that soon. anyhow the plugs have been bone-dry. due to a leakage in the intake.

    which carb would you prefer?

  • @rockstarberlin:

Which carb? I don't know, coz I always had the Super E and I arranged with that... ;-)

The original one should work properly? Or someting else 42mm???

  • @SKULLSTON3 hm. the super E is 42mm. i´ll try a delorto or CV or something.

  • @rockstarberlin:

Yep...I mean 40mm...nevertheless a number smaller than the Super E...Sorry for my mistake!

  • 81 ? i got bored way before end of clip

  • @slangy1227 a majki ti ga ja nabijem

  • 2 guys...81 kicks.....

  • @56tinman56 worth it

  • I sat here and watched the whole vid! I bet shes a beast nowadays. sweet ride!

  • once u geter down pat it's heaven!! Nice skoot!!!!

  • I used to have about 5 starting sequences depending on the temp outside. I hate those carbs and will never have another.

  • at about 3 mins it I would start cussing walking into the house and make a sandwich. Then call a prospect in to do it for me

  • sweet man keeep it olskoool

  • the suspense is killing me

  • looks like fun

  • very nice

  • ahhh heck jus forget it I gotta go to bed.

  • nice jeans , the 70's are back !

    :D

  • Someones getting a sore leg

  • I saw a new harley the other day, its fule injected and has an electric starter, THERES NOTHING WRONG WITH THAT, its a good thing!!!

  • ein duplikat dieser 54er pan kann ich nachbauen.. greetings to switzerland, to loris!!

  • kickstarting bikes is the best! especially when they are stubborn. thats what makes us men! electric starts are for sissy's!!!!

  • Kick starting bikes... That why the good Lord gave us prospects lol

  • im almost positive my main is.072 i have everything written down in the garage. slow jet im not sure....every pan has its own demons i know your aware of that....im on my way out to go see some bands if i can help out in any way let me know....far as the heads go couple of friends have std heads with no real issues my heads are harley. bike was a pain in the ass for a long time. my issues were carb related went from a linkert to the s+s took a while to get the whole thing dialed in....

  • its a s+s super E on a 52 pan. its all harley. its timed and tuned on the money. bone stock it took a while to get it right but i found the sequence.2 squirts, 2 prime kicks, enrichener up,make it hot and bang starts on 1,2 or 3 kicks every time hot or cold.maybe i will put up a vid hehe....i think your right about the bells but never say never.....nice scoot too....later.

  • @xbatttttttttt:

hm, i´ve got the super E too. do you remember which noozles are on?

i still have problems with the heads. this time it´s the rear. a crack between the brass intake valve seat ring and the aluminium cast. a piece broke away. bad luck. i have to find some replacement heads. unfortunately v-twin,STD and S&S don´t produce them anymore or at least i can´t get them here in germany. probably i´ll have to find some in usa.

  • man i feel for ya been there done that now i start with 2-3 kicks ice cold or red hot.the bell bottoms are great i wore those back in the day.are they back in style??lol

  • @xbatttttttttt

hej xbat. what carb do you have?

bell bottoms will probably never be back. but we´re kind of outstylers ;-)

  • sweet bike

  • Jajajajajajajajajajajaja! Ridiculo!

  • does it get easier to start as you ride more?? i want to do the same but don't want the inconvenience of 4 minutes start up times, especially when i'm parked on the street.. anyone?

  • if everything´s right it should start on 1 - 3 kick

  • wore me out just watching it ! advance the mag/distributor next time!

LOVE THE BELL BOTTOM PANTS !

  • hahaha :D its good , real mans starting motocycle like you maan

  • give er some either next time!

  • Nice panhead

  • great bikes! All you need is a few friends to help you start them!

I deeply appreciate these machines, but think I like my new one with a starter. :)

  • i see a guzzi on the back...could you post a video of it??

  • NEVER IDLE a NEW Engine like that

  • seems low on compression...

  • Azz come fai se hai fretta??

  • @manico73: taxi? ;-)

  • I can't stop watching till they crank that baby : )

  • Absolutly!!! I'll stick with the button!

    Nice looking scoot....(Tums-up!)

  • what a workout

  • what a workout...;)

  • schickes gerät ;)

    bobber rocken die bude ;)

  • Might want to check your valve seats and lifters then. Not to overhaul a bad job, but some times things don't go as we plan ya know. Low compression could be caused by poorly seated valves that expand when warmed up and seal. If you're running hydrolic lifters, make sure you're running a good quality 60wt oil.

  • Is it just me, or does this engine seem to low compression? Granted I'm used to kicking my shovelhead. But I sounds alittle on the weak side for a Pan, and looks to roll over alittle too easy. And yeah, I'd say the timeing was way off in this vid.

  • @80CJ5

you´re right. low compression cause of a crack in the intake nipple. and you´re right again with rolling over too easy. but i´ve built in the original NOS 0.6 oversize pistons form harley. if the machine is hot the compression is higher, but after repairing the crack it still has low compression when cold.

  • starting these bikes seems like a huge pain in the ass but still kick ass

  • @bigbradford69

sometime it´s not easy. but finally it pays off. always! :-)

  • @bigbradford69 seems to be an understatment, he's got till 7;51 to get it going hehe

  • funny these 2 guys dancing with this bitch, get off the dance floor and do a static timing on it and it will start first kick, also get longer cigarettes...you either got or you don't with harley's!!!

  • pull the finger out your ass and read the info first wise ass, hahaha

  • all my kick start harley's were no more than 2 kicks, even after rebuilds, static time the points with a light or meter at just past tdc. one of my shovels started just resting your foot after a kick through before turning the key on.. Always tested the heads, valves and pistons for leaks, hated doing things twice...did do my ulh 80incher with venolia racing pistons and didn't know to give the forged pistons .005 clearance, wasted 2 sets of pistons, my mentor clued me in, that was 30 yrs ago...

  • guess I am a wise ass, have been all my life, thats how you learn, got a video of that Pan after the problem was fixed??? Will try to post my '95 Road King 96cu. in. old mans toy soon, hardtails for 23 yrs took the fun out of riding... Nice looking bobber by the way!

  • honestly, i don´t give a shit for '95 rubbish, hahaha

  • well gee, honestly why don't you just go fuck yourself and your dance partner, das guten!

  • you know why? cause a wise ass like you told me to do

  • sweet bike

  • you are my friend!

  • Sick bike, but those pipes.... Don't they fry the shit out of your ass?

  • no. my ass is covered by the seat, hahaha.

  • holy fuck nice job dude, that thing looked like a bitch to kickkkk

  • that thing tend to be a bitch if you don´t know what she wants. at that point it was "welding the cracks in the front head"

  • This makes me really appreciate electric starters. :)

    (Beautifull Panhead, Bad Kick Starters)

  • you can try it better :-)

  • Such a great machine, i love the color scheme - like an old B-17! Cheers...

  • Bad ass bike bro! Loved the sound. Greetings from norway

  • Nice bike and keep at it, thanks for the vid don't mind the racer at the back either . Yeh and are bells coming back in are they im radding the mission bin to beat the fasion trend, thanks for the heads up Tendsetters.

  • Right turn fuel tap on with ignition off then 2 kicks all the way threw, Then turn fuel on (Hey don't swist the throtle) just scew it on a touch and hold it then kick threw then and only then use the choke. and thats how ya kick a hog.

  • dude this video kicks ass! it had to be filmed in the 70's though, look at those fucking bell bottoms!

  • Cool bike! Nothin' wrong with earning your ride by doin' some kickin'! Half the fun is the tuning!

  • He mann, brauchst viel Kondition! :-)

  • it looks that the kick needs more compression!it looks loosy!

  • hey, that was exactly the same i thought after the first kick. but i put original NOS panhead pistons in. they have quite low compression. and it could be that the leakage lowered the compression as well.

  • but still, what a beauty...whatever you do with it worth every single penny!congrats!

  • thank you very much! :-)

  • really nice bike... never mind the push button bikers who never kicked a bike in their life... no one ever gathered round to watch someone electric start their bike... you should post more vids of this beauty!!!

  • thought this was filmed in the 70's....lol

    Bike is gorgeous, nice work....

  • great way to flood your engine... your lucky it started after all that... but otherwise i love that bike...

  • the engine was dead dry after overhaul mister

  • Man! you would end up with a right leg twice as big as the left one if you owned this bike. My '83 shovel was not that easy to kick-you had to put some weight into it.

  • hahahaha....funny your comment!!...

  • I'm diggin' the bell-bottoms! lol

  • @1:38sec i thought u were gonna kick the bike! xDD

  • on a cold morning i might like a tag team to help start my shovel

  • Hey, the 70's called, they want their bell bottoms back. :)

All joking aside, very nice bike... once you get it started...

  • LOL I FEEL YOUR PAIN

  • jajajaja...

  • Who did your valve seat work? Was it a replacement or a rebuild of the OEM seats?

  • an old guy in berlin specialized in overhauling motor parts. he machined the original seats as there was still enough material left

  • I keep watching this video...I think it's very honest!!! Did you get that air leak taken care of??

  • yes. but it took me a while. i let the front head weld, laser weld. but it seemed to be still leaky afterwards. the guy botched it. i let weld in the manifold rings as well and they´ve been leaky after welding too. i was really pissed and had to find tow heads on ebay with original intakes not this shovel big size stuff and went for a complete restore of seats, guides and valves. then i´ve assembled all again and now it runs well after fixing some problems with the ingnition :D

  • YOU TWO HAVING A LAUGH OR WHAT?

  • NEVER

  • ok i would of edited out the first 3 min until it fired up to make it look like it fired up first try nake 300 try's

  • i´m too honest for something like that ;-)

  • nice bike n bellbottoms hehe

  • they musta filmed this back in the 70's , lovin the bell bottom pants

  • shure

  • must have been using your trick knee, shit took 5 minutes to start. might wanna use your good leg next time?

  • almost makes you wanna quit smoking,,,

  • actually i quited 2 weeks ago. but now it starts very easy. hm. at least i quited of no earthly use ;-)

  • give it more gas and fix the kicker. cool bike

  • I want a panhead, I just can't handle a hardtail frame. One back surgery is enough.........off topic, but where do you guys still buy bellbottoms??

  • at schuhmann´s in danziger str. in berlin, hahaha

i think thats the last store selling bellbottoms. and you can get them in size 34/38!

  • funny if the second guy would have started it on his first kick :)

  • bringer to me here in america i love your bike dude..sorry you have to kick it so much

  • stop buggin me and ajust the clutch basket

  • clutch basket? you´re a pro dude? hahaha

  • the reason i say to this is due to

what seem to be "slipping" of the kicker

arm.also at our shop we do not

like to place that much continued pressure

on the return gear, spring, and bushing as we

do lot of strokers.iv seen a few kicker shafts sheer off, leaving the kicker arm upon the floor.

in a few cases even the kicker side cover cracked. but that was many years ago,

and we were using many different clutch set ups.slippers.grabbers,iron butter fly's etc.

    compression check?ha ha ho funny.

    .

  • please read the info!

  • nice bell bottoms.

    hau rein!

  • dig those crazy flares man.

  • Rockstar we all love this video, and we want to see the pan putting rubber on the road. I read somewhere that the police in Berlin love to fine bikes like this ? Do you try to get away from the city with it ?

  • hey leute!

    einfach geiles Bike! Keine wiederrede!

    Verkauft ihr auch Bikes evtl?

    mfg

  • Nice ass bike, but i was laughing my ass off seeing him pump fuel into motor just twistin away @ the throttle as he has a cigarette hangin out of his mouth. Thats true rough rider there.

  • hahahahahaahahahahahahaha

  • Hey nice bike man! I've had temperamental bikes and know what you're going through! A squirt of starting fluid should start it in a few kicks.
