  • RIP jack layton

  • I don't want a partenership with the United States. Neither does the rest of the Canadian youth. What do you say to that Harper?

  • Damn, Jack looked really good and strong here. Get better Jack

  • How is it possible for Harper to talk for so long without saying anything at all?

  • @nanaimoto1

That's the answer you get from a stupid question!

  • Layton is awesome I am for the NDPs

  • Rick Mercer for PM!

  • jack lation=lier!!!!!!

  • 2 people were conservatives!!!

  • I love how every conservative member of parliment when faced with evidence against there wrong doing steers the debate in a completely different direction. And on top of this tires to make the opposition look like idiots, But fails miserably, real Canadians know who the real idiots are.

  • @badmongo0 Conservatives all over the world are like that even here with the Liberals (here they are conservatives) hell look at David Cameron and here we have the misfortune of having a Catholic, bible-bashing root-rat who has the cheek to take the moral high-horse when it comes to moral issues, he's gotten even worse since our PM is an unmarried "living in sin" woman by the name of Julia Gillard (pointless bit of trivia both her and Mr. Abbott are foreign-born)

  • @badmongo0 Exactly! Harper is a lying manipulative piece of ......work(?)

  • Don't you love how Stephen Harper dodges the question, and then twists Jack Layton's words around? Jack Layton has a social conscience, has valid points about NAFTA and Stephen Harper didn't even mention NAFTA... dumb ass

  • @angelofyourobsession Harper did the same thing on the open mic debates. He couldn't answer a straight question. Out with that lying sack of ^%* ! NDP will deal with issue head on and take responsibility for hard decisions. Canadian are TIRED of the Liberal and PC parties screwing Canadians over and over!! Done!

New Democratic Party will finally get Canada back on to a better path and be a nation to be proud of.

  • hey can someone explain what he was saying to me??

    thanks

  • Mr.Layton puts out a solid argument and all Harper can do is ridicule him as the members of his party roar their support. This is the type of parliament we have.

  • Harper is a giant douche

  • such focus on american elections...how about ours, prime?

  • our current government is JACK... i want LAYTON

shit, that was kinda clever haaaa

  • When someone in parliament is speaking, is it that hard for everyone else to just SHUT THE FUCK UP

They're supposed to be politicians and they're acting like they're at a fucking junior hockey game!

  • Jamie, you are right that question period is quite frustrating to sit through.

  • Touche Skrikles! exactly my thoughts...!

  • For sure man, we all know who the people jeering are. They are the conservatives, who keep it in their interest to defend neo-liberal market reforms like nafta. I dislike how negative and juvenile they act in parliament. It is a shame.

  • To the conservatives that think socialism is a bad thing:

The countries with the highest standards of living in the world are the socialist ones.

Moving to the left is not the end of the world. But if we follow the USA any further to the right, we might as well jump off a cliff.

  • @poodtang1 and you're an idiot

  • Look what the MNR may do to a small town!:

(Check our channel out and view video)

  • you want to know somthing i think that we should not have a goverment we as canadains should get ride of the goverment and use that money to hire 100 acountants to run the country instead the goverment are nothing but lawyers that could not hack it

  • Is Jack Layton like an Obama type politician in Canada?

  • Jack is our ONLY choice for a FAIR Government.

  • With little to no exposure of Dr. Ron Paul on Canadian 'media'...(media my ass - we canceled our cable because tv news is bullshit)... I can only assume that there was interference and cannot honestly say I trust tv or the government. And about SPP/NAU!? Not a big discussion about that on the 'news' or by the 'government'...they're just doing it without public awareness and, or consent. I don't see how most people can trust our 'leaders' - we need a purging of our bureaucracy from top to bottom.

  • Harper = Tool.

  • Harper you're a joke

  • Smug bastard.

  • To go further with the north grant/ propganda issue, racism isn't a political party based issue. Its based upon ignorance and hate. Neither traits are exclusive to either the right or left.

But to be fair, Racism to the extreme is a facist (meaning backwards in time) trait, and decades ago it used to be a conservative (To conserve, to keep as is) trait. So although racism isn't exclusive to one side, if it was it would be the right. Sorry, but it would.

  • Thank you Jack Layton for standing up for U.S. Democracy even though you're not from the USA. You're a true friend in the north.

  • I'm not a fan of politicians but Jack Layton is a far superior choice for PM.

  • Harper is a neo-con, and Dion keeps supporting him. Go Layton!

  • I want Jack Layton to be the next Prime Minister of Canada!

  • the political spectrum is no simply left and right, it is more accuratle a plane. left and right being one axis and populist vs libertarian on the other. traits like racism, fascism, nationalism, ect are of populism. often times "conservative" parties are not actually true conservative, specifically with neocons like bush of america and the more moderate version of that in canada like harper. these parties are actually much closer to a right populist thought which is comparable to the nazis

  • My friend said:

I live in Toronto Canada, I live in Jack Layton's district Toronto-Danforth. He is one strong leader who has been completely underrated because of overpowering GOP Conservatives. That sneak Stephan Harper is probably having close door deal with Republicans as we speak and trying to spread the rumour, since he is no stranger to scandals and Lobbyists all across Canada.

Jack Layton keeps his word, how many Politicians you know ride his bike to work? That's what this man does!

  • Bush = a tool of the retarded.

  • You = a tool in it's simplest definition.

Do you even have an argument against Layton, more importantly a defense for Bush?

Because you're mind is warped if you believe that Layton is the bad guy and Bush is a saint.

  • I'm not arguing with you. You ignorant right wing fuckers are all just sheep to you shepard bush.

Once again, you're argument holds no logical merit.

  • Chamberlain was a conservative. I suggest you read up on things before you spew stupid everywhere.

  • Every time I read one of your replies it's like i'm being bukkaked with stupid.

I have read up, he was conservative. However he had Liberal conservatism beliefs. What that means though is that he believed in some ECONOMIC liberalism but remains a traditional conservative in social issues (i.e racism, gay marriage, etc).

And you couldn't come up with anything better than saying spew and telling me to read up? Once again, i'm being bukkaked with stupid.

  • Racism is a far right trait yes. Nazism is a far right set of ideals which include racism. Ask any nazi who they voted for and the answer will either be the nazi party or republican.

  • Wow. You really are stupid. It's like your fucking five or something.

  • That's funny because my friend lives in Toronto, and said he has done a lot.

  • here here Jack

  • Jack Layton too advantage if a good situation, good for you...if it was up to prime minister Harper, Canada would be a mess just like the United States which means a huge military, no healthcare and tons of gun violence ...Go Jack layton !!!

  • WTF are you kidding me.

  • The Americans should be so lucky if we could influence them a bit, they are a f***** up nation. They need national healthcare, they need major crime reduction, they need to stop polluting the planet, America is beyond repair now... too many lobbyists in Washington

  • Kyoto and the environment are important, but trying to embed these things into a trade agreement is simply ridiculous. The US isn't adopting Kyoto any time soon. Does that mean Canada stops trading with them? Good luck to the Canadian economy!

  • Free Trade was partly Brian Mulroney's idea in the first place. And Ronald Reagon's.

    I never did like NAFTA.

  • Jack Layton is a much better opposition leader than Stephane Dion.

  • I love Jack Layton

  • While we're at it, let's amend NAFTA to ensure that the likes of Exxon Mobil doesn't try to sue the Canadian Federal Gov't, simply because they believe having to spend 2% of their profits on Research and Development is 'a violation of NAFTA'. Give me a break! In addition to better labour and environmental provisions, we need to strengthen the right to put clauses protecting agreement such as the Kyoto Protocol and the Atlantic Accord!

  • The lack of belief in free trade in some of the comments is astonishing. Exxon will be forced by the free market to invest in R&D because otherwise they are outcompeted, it's not the place for Canadian lawmakers to interfere. Labor provisions? Like higher minimum wage? If you took economics you'd know it actually causes unemployment, especially in a place like Mexico. Are you saying we shouldn't trade with countries that can't afford to have our standards of living?

  • Jack Layton is wonderful

  • Way to go Jack

You are truly a Democratic leader.

  • The NAFTA issue did affect it, and Hillary flat out lied. The Democratic party in Canada have been defending Obama, asking for the Prime Minister who is conservative to fire the person who spread the rumors. Don't you people know that the Clinton and Bush's are friends?? Come on!

  • I havent heard about this once in the States. A forign govrnment may have effectavly subverted US election process and THE US news dont consider that news. And cnn wonders why people would rather get their news from the internet.

  • what are you talking about? have not heard of it? have you watched CNN in the past 2 weeks? its not the point if it has affected it or not! the point is Canadian Politicians have no right sticking their nose in an American election. The same as Americans do not get involved in our elections.

  • The comment was in response to an American commenter who said she had no idea what this issue was about then promptly agreed with the majority opinion on this thread, so please understand the context. But to answer you, the point for Americans is that Obama was caught doing something indiscreet, and most Americans appreciate the opportunity to make a choice based on more facts available. It doesn't matter whether it was the Canadians, or Mexicans, or Egyptians who leaked.

  • Maybe leaks are immoral to you, but the fact is this is politics. Canada does and always will influence other countries. What about when liberals released statements showing disappointment with American policy right before the 2004 election? The NDP can sit back and criticize, but if they were in power, I truly doubt they wouldn't influence foreign countries to further their ends. What about all the clamor to influence China (which is booming and has a leader with high approval ratings).

  • I dont agree with any canadian politcians no matter which party they represent, if the decide to use their power to influece other democracies, and by now you know that the story was to begin with not true at all. The point is,

  • the story was used as a partisan move by the conservatives during a crucial primary (ohio) where NAFTA has cost many their jobs.

  • I feel we should just agree to disagree here. You are against any foreign intervention, while I say foreign intervention in pursuit of national interests is justifiable, and in any case expected of all governments that can get away with it, and that Canadian influence on other countries, overt or covert, in some form or other, is unavoidable. Fundamental disagreement, neither of us is likely to persuade the other. So have a good day sir, and we'll see how Canadians vote come next election.

  • If your answer is America is a democracy and China is not, in a democracy leaders should be held accountable for their words, and shouldn't make rhetoric that they know they won't follow up on (Obama). So in a way aren't we furthering American democracy? If influencing China to further Chinese democracy is justified, what's the big deal about this little leak?

  • The government in power now is the one of the most corrupt I've ever seen.

  • Jack Layton endorses Obama.

  • Jack Layton endorses Obama.

  • I am ashamed to be a Canadian. Harper has been swift-boating his competition for over a year now. He is so jealous of anyone who is popular. He endorses Bush and falls all over him. The Canadian people just want to be rid of this Harper government. He has the morals of a snake.

  • weebit22

No reason to be ashamed. After all, your system has the ability for the opposing party to confront the PM. Here in the US, Democrats simply follow Bush's orders, or are considered "traitors" by the Republicans.

  • @weebit22 Insults, insults, insults, that's all you have and that's all you'll ever have.

  • Not only I live in Toronto Canada, I live in Jack Layton's disctrict(Toronto-Danforth). He is one strong leader who has been completely underrated because of overpowering of GOP loving Conservatives. That sneak Stephan Harper is probably having close door deal with Republicans as we speak and trying to spread the rumour, since he is no stranger to scandals and Lobbyists all across Canada.

Jack Layton keeps his word, how many Politicians you know ride his bike to work? That's what this man does!

  • It is interesting to me as an supporter of American change to find that others are having the same issues as we are.

  • @agenteayana He gets no love because he's NDP you mook! Nobody wants a socialist! fuck that...

  • @kidkappa04 What a mature response.

  • @thetaoofken mature, or honest...seriously, who the fuck wants a socialist. our taxes are cunt stupid already. I want less tax, I'm sick & tired of this shit. they're fucking killing me.

  • @kidkappa04 The NDP is not killing you! Speding 36 billion on a solesourced military contract for jets, is killing you!

Eliminating a huge portion of government tax revenue by giving corporate tax breaks to corporations, with the assumption these corporations will trickle down these savings to their employees, and the consumer, leaving us with a huge deficit which is payed for with HST & the myriad of tax on fuel, no tax cuts for us, while our employers find ways to pay us less, is killing you.

  • @mattmatt115

The NDP would bankrupt us in a matter of years, worse than anything Harper has done the past years.

You should know that it's you and I the consumer that pay the corporate income taxes, not the corporations. They just pass along the cost to the consumer. Want to get back at the corporations, ask for a sole consumption tax on goods and eliminate all income taxes. If people are forced to pay more for goods, they'll stop spending, giving the corporations less.

  • @kidkappa04 Oh ya, a little increase in tax for citizens, and a big increase for corporations that funds a myriad of social services for all Canadians. That's a terrible trade-off. While Harper puts our country even further into deficit with his retarded spending that doesn't help anyone except corporations. I love how people speak on topics they know nothing about.

  • @kidkappa04 guess what, that means that harper is pro amreican and doesn't give a fuck about you!!! wake up and see some realities you canuk hick!!! Read a book!!!

  • @harris3693 that's "Canuck" dipshit. maybe you're the one that needs to read a book you little bitch.

  • Well then listen to agenteayana because she knows the Canada system. That is where she lives... and has said the house majority is ruled by Conservatives. AgenteAyana has also said that Jack Layton is a good and honest man.

  • Is the continuous yelling while the two gentlemen are speaking normal? If so, why? I like the English and Canandian practice of the head of government being available for questioning. I don't know much about Layton, but I like him from this video.

  • Yes, heckling and shouting by backbenchers during question period is a common occurence. The idea is to distract the speaker and make him trip up. IMHO, the parliamentary system is far preferable to the presidential system in the US where the President can hide behind his speechwriters and carefully choreographed photo ops. An inarticulate buffoon like Bush could never have become the Prime Minister of Canada or the UK.

  • I do like how the gead of government facing questioning on a regular basis. Bush never would survive it.

  • Oh ya the yelling is normal. I get confused when i watch the president address congress and the only choices are variations on clapping and not clapping. What is the deal with that? honestly i don't get it

  • NDP Jack Layton is the best! He got my vote for years, he's wife Olivia Chow is the best as well!
