Beautiful voice.. But this song is about emotion and a depth of feeling and she doesn't seem like she even knows the words she's singing. Let alone understand them.
Such a gift to see this ! Been watching Pie Jesu of this same show for years with barely a clear view of the performance and now this ! Crystal clear and so wonderful to see the expressions on her face. Seeing her is believing in the other worldly.

What make Hayley's voice beautiful is the pure innocence in her voice. There are very less people in the world who can keep a pure voice........ and by far.... Hayley had done it well.
I can see that she is younger, but her voice has matured from two years previous, and is not much different than today. Absolutely magnificent! How she hasn't become an international superstar is beyond me. She must not want it--and more power to her if that's the case.

She lacks depth and substance.. It's also very clear that her voice has no support in her body. She uses a very unnatural technique to reach high notes and have trouble holding hihgh notes for any lenght of time because of her lack of technique.

@ls4yy Hayley is 22 here - there is no reason her voice should change that much now and i hope it doesn't. I have a similar voice with no texture and it has never changed and i am now 48! In our church choir i sing the parts the 12 year old boys are supposed to sing!

She certainly looks older than 14 years old here - but i have checked her hairstyle etc to other you tube videos and agree she is younger here than the date would suggest. However, in her later videos, even though i can here some changes in her voice, the purity in her upper register still seems to be there.

Hayley was a support act to Russell Watson. Faye Tozer, formerly of Steps, also performed. Other videos from this concert on YT are Pie Jesu and Pokarekare Ana (a duet with Russell Watson). Russell, Hayley and Faye finished the concert singing Now Is The Hour but that is not on YT.

This piece would make a perfect setting for a duet with Hayley and Jackie Evancho! I can only imagine how fantastic a performance it would be with their combined talent and stage presence. Maybe someday.........I can only hope.

However, I don't mean that Hayley should just sit apathetic but come on, it's a concert at a huge place and just because we can see her face because it's a video, it doesn't mean that everyone in there can, not even in a front row. Anyway, her voice is emotional and that's all that matters. You can close your eyes and enjoy it.
She has just performed this song twice recently. If you're missing the emotion in this one, you definitely won't be in these ones! Her voice is more powerful, and she sings with far more emotion. One video is from Malta, and the other from the King's Lynn festival. I wish I could post the links.

Just exquisitely beautiful - as always. The most powerful music and the most lovely voices to sing them. Celtic Woman is so amazing and you can see on these ladies' faces they are singing from their heart and the words they are singing are touching them as well. How could it be otherwise? It could not. I admire them because, were I able to sing, and I had to sing these exquisite sngs I would have tears spilling from my eyes and running down my cheeks!!! As always another perfect post.
The funny part is if this 13 year old had stepped out on the stage during Britain's Got Talent, there wouldn't have been 1/10th as much buzz. Boyle got her biggest boost from the shock that she wasn't tone deaf and delusional like every person in that auditorium assumed. This is one of my favorite versions of the song by far.

@kuan1981 Puh-leez! Ruthie Henshall is a very overrated performer. Her acting at the 10th anniversary was so underwhelming, and her voice is so scratchy and ugly that it sounds like it's coming from the grave. For better acting, check out Patti LuPone, but for the ultimate singing & acting performance, no one beats Lea Salonga (dubbed by critics as The Legendary Fantine). Hayley's voice, I must say however, is very angelic!

I love Hayley Westenra, don't get me wrong. But this song should be sung with passion, bitterness and regret as well as sweetness. In addition her vowels are very wide and bright. However, her tone is simply silky. Wow.
I defiantly prefer Haley’s version over Susan Boyle's. This seems to have more emotion and you feel sad when you listen to it. Susan’s voice is too powerful to fully show the feelings of the song, and she lacks the necessary softness when singing it. This is coming from someone who loves this song dearly and is experienced in singing it so please don’t call me Susan Boyale hater. And I'll have 2 give the Ruthie Henshall's version a listen, i haven’t heard that 1 yet =]
A spellbinding performance by (young) Hayley. When I close my eyes and listen to her singing, her wonderful voice seems to come from someone older than a 14 year old. And when I finally open my eyes I see this calm, confident and stunningly attractive young lady on stage singing this beautiful song and living her own dream!

I don't prefer Hayley singing this song...she lacks emotion (check out Ruthie Henshall's, it's the best), but for a 14 year old, this is an amazing feat.
@Derukugi2 I think the criticism is justified to a limited extent. If life experience is the standard by which one evaluates singers, it is what it is. I do think that such people are missing out on a lot of beauty. Hayley brings unmatched techinical accuracy, and almost otherworldly clearness of voice to what she sings. She is 14 in this video, and speaking personally may already be the best female singer I have ever heard. The only thing that surpasses this is an older Hayley

For better acting, check out Patti LuPone, but for the ultimate singing & acting performance, no one beats Lea Salonga (dubbed by critics as The Legendary Fantine). Hayley's voice, I must say however, is very angelic!

I love Hayley Westenra, don't get me wrong. But this song should be sung with passion, bitterness and regret as well as sweetness. In addition her vowels are very wide and bright. However, her tone is simply silky. Wow.

I defiantly prefer Haley’s version over Susan Boyle's. This seems to have more emotion and you feel sad when you listen to it. Susan’s voice is too powerful to fully show the feelings of the song, and she lacks the necessary softness when singing it. This is coming from someone who loves this song dearly and is experienced in singing it so please don’t call me Susan Boyale hater. And I'll have 2 give the Ruthie Henshall's version a listen, i haven’t heard that 1 yet =]

Beautiful, but nearly devoid of emotion and expression. Compare this to Ruthie Henshall's version. Ruthie 'inhabits' the song.
Also, the pronunciation of 'wasted" and "untasted" was jarring; she pronounces them like they were "wastid" and "untastid".
She needs to relax, loosen up. She's not a porcelain doll so she shouldn't perform like one.

A spellbinding performance by (young) Hayley. When I close my eyes and listen to her singing, her wonderful voice seems to come from someone older than a 14 year old. And when I finally open my eyes I see this calm, confident and stunningly attractive young lady on stage singing this beautiful song and living her own dream!

I don't prefer Hayley singing this song...she lacks emotion (check out Ruthie Henshall's, it's the best), but for a 14 year old, this is an amazing feat.

@Derukugi2 I think the criticism is justified to a limited extent. If life experience is the standard by which one evaluates singers, it is what it is. I do think that such people are missing out on a lot of beauty. Hayley brings unmatched techinical accuracy, and almost otherworldly clearness of voice to what she sings. She is 14 in this video, and speaking personally may already be the best female singer I have ever heard. The only thing that surpasses this is an older Hayley
