  • I gotta get this on dvd at some point, looks good. I absolutely love the old classic films of this particular genre. They have inspired numerous film directors, Joe dante, John landis etc...

  • this is a great film, i would put it in the top 5 werewolf movies of all time. i think henry hulls character was really well done as well as warner oland. have this film on dvd and find myself watching at least once a month.

  • One of the great classic Universal horror films. Love the creepy make-up - works so much better for me than the overwrought CGI crap they're getting away with now. Gotta mention the distinctive music score too - itwas re-cycled for the terrific FLASH GORDON serial with Buster Crabbe.

  • Noooooo he killed Charlie Chan

  • What does the Shadow have to do with this?

  • While The Wolfman has the atmosphere, this one really compensates with better make up.

  • @HRVDNT It looks somewhat like Jack Nicholson's makeup in Wolf.

  • @MORKOS621 Yes, it does. With the sideburns and all.

  • @HRVDNT And that forehead thing. I think they call it a widow;s peak.

  • the howl, i want to hear the howl!

  • does anyone have this film that they can upload?

  • Does anyone else think that this is better than The Wolf Man?

  • CGI can't create such a creepy werewolf as the one in this movie.

  • While this is a largely forgotten monster movie from Universal Pictures, it's my favorite. It sets a creepy mood and has it's share of comic relief. It's really a great picture. I hope it gets it's own dvd release some day.

  • Jesus - couldn`t anyone act in those days..

  • I JUST got this on dvd from the WOLFMAN LEGACY DVD COLLECTION It has this one AND SHE WOLF OF LONDON AND THE WOLFMAN AND FRANKENSTEIN MEETS THE WOLFMAN

  • Same music was used in the Flash Gordon serials with Buster Crabbe

  • I understand they wanted Karloff in the Henry Hull part and Lugosi in the Oland part.

Overall, it just felt like a warmed-over Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde.

I've seen a number of werewolf films and none ever felt quintessential.

  • i have it at home.

    so awesome.

    *-*

  • I watched this on a horror movie channel back when I was a kid. It scared the b'jeebers out of me then and still does. Being a fan of werewolf movies, I have watched all that have ever come out. This one, by far, is the best ever made. Thanks for posting. Now I am going to sleep with the lights on...!

  • Is this the first Werewolf Movie?

  • To tell you the truth, nobodysperfect06, I do not know. There was a werewolf movie that came out in the 40s starring Lon Chaney,Jr but I do not know if it was before this one. Both were made in the same era. Even without all the high tech special effects of modern movies in this same genre, to me the old movies are scarier. Maybe that is why they call it "acting." Human talent is still better than computers.

  • This one did come out before The Wolfman with Lon Chaney Jr., Six years before, this movie came out in 1935.

  • Thanks, nobodysperfect06, for finding this information. I myself just did not know. I would like a copy of this old film. I may see if a local video store in my locale has one for sale. There is a store that stocks some vintage films from the 30s and 40s

  • Not sure. Do you know Universal is doing a remake of the lon chaney Jr. Wolfman movie from the 40's? It is releasing late this year. should be an interesting parody. BTW ther're also doind creature fron the Black Lagoon.

  • It's the first one from the sound era.

  • no, there was a werewolf movie one in 1913 and one in 1925.

  • What is the name of the one from 1925? I know of the one from 1913, but that film is lost.

  • the title is "Wolf blood".

  • It doesn't really have a werewolf though, just a guy who dreams of running with wolves after getting a blood transfusion from one. In fact, I don't know if they even use the word 'werewolf' in the movie.

The 1913 one sounds more promising, but it's a lost film.

  • yeah texas werewolves or sumthin like tht
