  • I know this video is very old but when you did this how hard was it to take out and put back in becaue i have to replace the transmission in my eclipse and im not really looking forward to it?

  • @twiggs1996 If you do it by yourself for the first time, it can take a long time and can be very difficult to raise the transmission back in alone. Get a friend, make sure you know where ALL your bolts by placing them on a piece of cardboard. The easiest way to go at removing it is focus on removing the front axles first. Once the axles are removed, its just transmission bolts and wires basically after you have removed most of the intercooler piping. Good luck! YOU CAN DO IT!!!

  • sweet ive got to do this now i got pretty much the same motor in my galant chipped a hole in the case sum how and lost all the oil now gotta replace it

  • are those seats out of a 99?

  • If I've never told you, "BOOOOM!" Is the best lyric ever–to start with on a DSM video with.

  • hello..im planning to swap my auto tranny to a manual tranny..im just curious about the bolts in the tranny? is it the same with manual? does the manual will fit to my n/a 4g63?

  • how did u take that cv axle off from the transmission did u like pry it off?

  • @andrewmylyf There is a tool you can rent/buy cheap at your local Autozone. Looks like a big tuning fork. Slide it between axle and tranny and it will slide right out. Don't forget to use Lithium grease when you put them back in so it's not so hard the next time around... Good luck :)

  • It's SO fitting that this song is the audio track for a DSM video. The opening scene... LOL... "BOOM!".... and a DSM being towed by a 4-wheeler. The old-skool 311 was good stuff.

...and I bet that transmission print from the paint is still on that garage floor. ;)

  • @Jafromobile Hehe, I can't believe it's been over 2 years since I uploaded this video. I haven't heard from you in a while Jafromobile. How's the DSM been? Hit the 11's yet? You are one of the standout DSM'ers on youtube my friend. Keep representin!

Have you the recent vids of my LS2 Camaro? Check em out! I'm trying to get some action vids uploaded soon. Keep in touch.

  • @shawnmgarcia I have the recent vids of your LS2. :P That's a nasty setup, I've experienced it in a 12:1 Firebird with .560" cams sideways in a torrential downpour at 115 mph. Holy hell I know what that thing can do. But with what I've got coming up this winter... let's just say I'll run you vs. street tires on pump gas. :D You bust out those slicks and I might be in trouble. Right now I'm taking a break from welding on the Colt. I'll have something to post soon.

  • @Jafromobile Thanks man, right now im putting my focus on the LS2 and then aiming my Auto AWD TSi. I really want to get a 150shot for the Camaro, but I've been spending all my performance parts money on Computer parts. lol. Soon enough, I'll get my nitrous kit and hopefully hit 10's in the quarter. Only a matter of time. To run you would be awesome, we could make some kick ass vids, to bad we live 1000 miles apart from eachother. ;)

  • @shawnmgarcia I'm bustin' a move to Pebble Beach in August to see the unveiling of the new 1300hp 268mph Bugatti Veyron. I bet there's gonna be a Koenigsegg CCX or two out there. Questioning whether or not I'll be able to lug this gigantic Canon HD janke with me?... I'll figure it out.

Time to stop procrastinating, change tapes and get back to welding... I want the Colt running this year.

  • do u have to take all the wheel shit off to get to the transmission ??? i got to put a new clutch n please email me back or comment me back

  • @draculaS2k We found it easier to remove it this way, however, I've seen some guys lift the engine upwards and slowly pop out the axles. It did'nt look to safe so I chose to do the extra work. Either way, you have to pull the axles out some how... Good luck.

  • awd cars are easy to do, its just really heavy because of the transfer case being attached to the gear box. iv done quiet a few gear boxes in all sorts of cars. there good fun doing in a vw transporter 4 motion. all i can say is make sure that you have a few strong mates to get the box out of the car.... and another thing dont forget to grease up the input shaft on the gear box and the input shafts on the drive shafts. one of my friends forgot to do it and yeah hell broke loose,

  • Where do you guys learn all this stuff? I want to learn.

  • With years of experience and alot of tools. This was our first tranny removal and it went very well.

  • There is no pain quite like separating a DSM axle. It's easier to get the LCA locknut off with a jack lifting up under the LCA. Once you've got the nut as far as it will go, put the jack under the hub and lift. One good whack with a 3'lb separates the joint. If you don't mash into it while turning the locknut, the bolt just turns.

That's aluminum wheel paint, isn't it? I think I recognize it from my AWD Colt's transmission. :P

Wheel paint. Bling in a can!!!

  • Haha, yea it was heat resistant paint. Needed to clean her up.

As for the LCA, are you talking about 2:53? It is a pain in the ass. Im getting ready to pull my motor and tranny soon and will try this.

  • Whatever you did to separate it was clearly effective at 2:53, but as for the axle and hub, DSMs always rust together there. Mitsu didn't grease the axle splines during assembly, and it bites everyone in the ass when it comes time to separate them. Grease the splines when you put it back together. You'll see me doing that in my drivetrain install video, and I've taken it apart a few times since without a single issue. I find it easier than removing the whole hub assembly (whenever possible).

  • i bought a 95 talon esi, yeah, a/m suck, it came with a cold air intake, headers and a full exhaust with 4 inch performance muffler, super loud, anyways, theres a plate on the back of the tranny that has 12 bolts, it started leaking and made the talon run hot, i removed 9 bolts and see that the tranny has to be dropped, any info on what this plate is? its not the tranny pan, the plate is right next to the firewall, the car run perfect for a 95, till the leak that is, info is appreciated

  • You asked this verbatim in one of my videos lately. You found the cover plate for the differential. The drivetrain in your car is 100% chrysler because it's a second-generation non-turbo, so I'm not sure you'll get very many good answers from 2g turbo guys. The 4g63 and 420A engines are completely different platforms.

I do know the 420A uses the same transmission as an old-skool Dodge Avenger or 2.0L Neon R/T gear ratios vary, but it could be cheaper to replace than to rebuild.

  • About to do the trans on a 95 awd... not looking forward to it!

  • damn i need to start learning how to do some shit like this LOl 99gsx DSM BABEEEE !?!? YEEEE

  • an example of a shop w/o management..

  • this trany work is so much fun. lol. i hate it when the space is so tight to get the back bolt of the trany. and so much crap you have to remove to get to the trany from the top.... fun day i did it on my cuzin 95' eclipse.

  • Damn wanna trade one of those bikes for my GSX :)

  • The Bseries is a great way to go with Honda's, But you can never go wrong with a turbo charged DSM. Im sorry, but DSM's make the most hp/tq for the buck to date... I have yet to EVER Loose to a Honda in any of my DSM's.---Thanks for watching bro.

  • the music sucks but the video is good

  • I'm about to do mine soon, hard rough take offs :P

  • You know whats even more fun then pulling a gs-t tranny.... its pulling the beastly tranny out of a GSX

  • hey wanna do my clutch? im in need of a new one now lol. i miss having no traction in first and 2nd gears lol. but seriously i need a new clutch is 2100 good?

  • i have the 2100, 800 easy miles on it and already slips with 300hp

  • Thank you so much for posting this video, all the pictures helped me get the right parts for my tranny, Nice job BTW

  • Hey, thanks alot man! It means alot. Its always fun pulling the tranny and engine out. Thanks for watching and supporting my video! Feel free to check out my other DSM video's. The car has came along way since this video.

  • if it takes you 3 hours to pull a gst tranny you are moving in slow motion. :)

  • Yeah, these were the good ole days learning the DSM.

  • yeah they are a little differen to work on, takes me about 45 minutes to pull the tranny and/or motor on our gsx. we dont have a spiffy manifold, just run the fp3065 pretty good lil snail :)

  • about how lond did the whole process take . i gotta do one myself to save the MONEY ! .

  • Took us about 3 hours to take it out and another 3 hours to reinstall it. Not to bad, but we do this shit on a regular basis. Make take the average joe a little longer. Depends on your skill level.

  • yea, it might be a challenge at first . cause im used to rearwheel drive.and what is ur technique for taking out the CV shafts any pointers?

  • You swapped your own clutch, nice job!

  • 3000gt vr4 with larger turbos better

  • o, you just asking for problems.. i know you didn't go there... hehe, DSM's for life yo!

  • nice DSM dude, nothing like replacing a clutch over the weekend. must be a 311 fan, too lol.

    good stuff

  • too bad you cant hear what your saying with the music.

  • He was telling me that he is planning to get a car lift in his garage and possibly open up a shop in town. thats pretty much it...

  • This is a good video cut with a shitty song. Yeesh...

  • BTW i recently changed the clutch on my 97 GSX about 10 days ago and i used your vid as a reference, thanks for posting it. Pretty much the same except for the transfer case and rear drive shaft.

  • No problem man, thats what its up for! Its cool you used it as a reference.. As for the cars, they are pretty much the same.

  • hey who was the band in the first song, and the name of the song?

  • 311, "Fuck the Bullshit"

  • dang how much hp on 25psi??

  • 25 psi u can poll on most stock 6 bolt dsms's

john shep and brent rau both run 55+ psi

  • damn you got alot of toys

  • haha sweet man, love the time and effort u put into ur DSM :] tranny looks brand new now. i bet the LS1 wont be so lucky this time around huh?

  • no chance... we race in mid-november. We will race from a 30mph roll due to massive power and traction issues with my car.

  • Hey I have that same jack I call it big red.

  • i think ive only seen one clutch worse than that in my life, it was on my buddies celica, we had to replace it in the freezing cold to. how hard was the tranny to pull and everything? need any special tools for dsms? i gotta 99gst and im putting in a 2100 clutch

  • It was pretty easy, actually.. but time consuming. I work on the car pretty much everyday so were pretty quick to know what goes where and what not. As far as tools and difficulty, working behind the engine on the firewall is a PAIN!! we used long extensions to get those tranny bolts out. Thanks man, check out my other DSM vids.

  • Did you see how bad that clutch disc was? It was the original clutch and had never been changed before. The car was purchased 100% stock.

  • well if u read the info he was replacing the clutch. he didnt put a new trans it, just cleaned the old one up and put new clutch in. have to remove the whole tran to do the clutch on dsm's. i just finished doin my tran swap bc mine cracked in my dsm.

  • nice vid man, and what was wrong with the other tranny?
