Slipknot isn't Death Metal, they are in the Nu Metal subgenre, which incorporates heavy metal with hip-hop style influences- both lyrically, and musically. If you wish to hear Death Metal, then you should listen to; Death, Nile, Behemoth, Opeth, Deicide, Brain Drill, Cannibal Corpse, Morbid Angel, Suffocation, and among many more. Oh, yeah, Red Hot Chilli Peppers are a great band, with unique sounding music.

Lastly(i'm done ranting after this), the vocal style that phil demonstrated in this video is not screaming, there called "death growls", and just like screaming, death growls takes a deep voice and strong lungs and vocal chords. So before you dumbasses leave a dumb comment about something you don't have a full understanding of, why don't you do research first?

Another thing is, i noticed how phil mentioned "crazy guitar riff" and acted like it was nothing. Playing fast guitar riffs takes a lot of skill to do. Same thing with the drums. I'm a drummer and playing death metal music is not an easy thing to do. In death metal, drummers typically use double bass drums. Double bass drums are harder to play than standard rock drums. There are also more drums involved. A standard double bass has, 3 rack toms, 2 floor, toms, 1 snare drum, 5 cymbals and 2 bass.

Phil, i'm just saying: I am heavily into all genres of music (spare the majority of rap and country, however i respect the two genres and know that people do enjoy them). Death Metal takes just as much if not more music theory knowledge and talent as rock/Alternative music. I am studying music theory in High School, and its tough and confusing as shit. Death Metal about mashing on the guitar, or even blasting on the drums, growling, and making as much noise as possible. There is a lot of complexity, time signatures, complicated guitar riffs, and is very, very difficult to play, or even master.

Try listening to Death, Opeth, Necrophagist, Carcass, or even Cynic. Good examples I would highly recommend looking into.

I do not think DSP understands the complexity that is Death Metal, or even what the genre is itself. He is clearly misinformed on the musical genre. I researched the soundtrack to Supremacy MMA, and most, if not all bands that were featured on it are not in the death metal genre. There was only one band; Within the Ruins, that even resembled the genre, and they are more Deathcore, which uses a great deal of blast beats and breakdowns than Death Metal.

Wow, I just checked out the sound track. The only band you can get away with calling death metal on the soundtrack is Within The Ruins and they still lean more towards technical deathcore. No wonder he thinks death metal is shit, I don't even think he has ever actually heard a real death metal band.
