bons velhos tempos, the the, new order, joy division, lorde of the new curch, echo& bunnyman, clash, e tantos outros, isto sim era musica! grandes noitadas! saudosas!
The the vs The World Tour, 1990. Just before they released MindBomb.
This is one of the the requests......It was me who shouted out to Matt when he asked what we wanted to hear...They also did Out of The Blue (from infected) and slow train dawn...
One of the best gigs I ever went too... I've meet Matt a few times, he lives in Stratford East London, nice bloke..
superb!! i'va always love The The , and what a talent Matt Jaohnson is, !! on the albums he wrote the songs, played every instrument and sang, brilliant voice, and what a hottie yummm!!1
I've always loved this song anyway, but the keys on this truly elevate the song to a whole new stratosphere! Don't know who he is but love his style, when I played I was big on bluesy/jazzy riffs like him. Anyone know who he is? I think this is back when Matt actually recorded an album where the musicians contributed & got credit. As a former pro-musician (no claims to any kind of big fame! ;-) for me colaboration was the funnest part of playing/creating. Peace music fans!
THIS IS ONE OF THE VIDEOS I LOVE THE MOST ON THE WHOLE FRIKEN YOUTUBE. so i thank you mr uploader for giving us, the the fans, the opportunity to watch it! :) its on my top 5 of youtube vids... i swear
Wow. That was an awesome live show from back in the day!! Matt took the sideline on this one and he and Johnny m nodded to each other in awe during the keyboard solo. Impressive even now, having bought soul mining 25 yrs ago.
The The holds such a special place in my heart ~ I have the words from This is the Day framed on my bedroom wall. Thanx Bob ~ bestest of memories & the start of us!
How good were the bands back then? I remember my friend taught me how to play Tracey Chapman and Suicidal Tendencies and The Cure's A forest on Guitar. Now all you get is Garbage bands, Kings of Leon, My Chemical Romance. What a shame.
@polarart: yeah, you're right, but it must be a youtube glitch or something... as it wasn't like this before. i also checked my orig. file and it's playing just fine.
I am blown away by the piano solo beginning @ about 3:35. Reminds me of the first time I ever heard the studio version of Layla on the Derek and the Dominos album
the bass player reminds me of ralph.. or is it sam from the warner bros cartoons? haha. i love the the. it's funny that james eller (the bass player) was in julian cope's band for awhile also. at the time, i was heavily into cope and johnson's work. england must have been a small place in the 80s. hehehehe
the the such an underated band( well lets face it they not really a band its matt johnson). i listened to his songs for hours when i was growing up and still today. beautiful compelling music- timeless
agree matt johnson is THE THE . same here i use to listen to THE THE every day from 1982 and still do now. I wonder if this video was taken when i went and saw them. damn why did i not get his autograph. abolutly brilliant !
i videotaped 100 greatest videos-6 hours of music-when i lived in Sydney around 1992- from a program called Rage which was broadcast overnight friday and sat nights. played the videos lots for years, so much that one section of the tape blanked out. this video was on there, somewhere around no 10 i think. i really missed it so it's fantastic to be able to root it out on you tube after so long. incidentally 'smells like teen spirit' was no 1 that year.

The whole song is fantastic, but the one line that gets me is "Uncertain emotions force an uncertain smile".
