Alot of great tv traditions are being done away with. For example remember when the WIZARD OF OZ aired every on CBS in the month of March? That tradition ended about 15 years ago. Now it's on alot every year on Turner Classic Movies, Turner Broadcasting System and WPIX Channel and on at different hours I may add; some hours when most people, especially the children are asleep. It used to be great lookng forward to watch THE WIZARD OF OZ on tv once a year.
@67nairb RUDOLPH THE RED-NOSED REINDEER which was just on last Tuesday on CBS has been a television tradtion once every Christmas time for 37 consecutive years. The time may come however may disappear from CBS too as the WIZARD OF OZ did. Hopefully that won't happen.
Back when people called it Christmas and it meant something and God was included, even if you didn't belive in God or whatever it was a better time, people are f'n mental today.
@67nairb That's the reason why... when you take Christ out of Christmas, the sick and twisted minds of the global elite have served their purpose and served their master well. That has been the goal from day one - if you successfully break down all family and religious values, you're able to weaken a nation as a whole. There is nothing sacred or pure in this world any longer - we only have our memories to relive the good times, if you happened to be alive during these times.
@fred1671 I think you are going a little overboard on this. RUDOLPH'S SHINY NEW YEAR has nothing to do with the birth of Christ, it really has nothing to do with Christmas either.
@67nairb Maybe a little... I was merely elaborating on why things are the way the are today. And, yes, I know RUDOLPH'S SHINY NEW YEAR has nothing to do with the birth of Christ. Point taken...
@UltraGokin amen this world is do diffrent im so glade i got to live tru the 70s such good clean simple times bye to a once were great country if someone ask me if they could turn me into a 12 year old kid again i would say noway not in todays world
This commercial I don't believe was from 1979 because it was in between THE DONNIE AND MARIE CHRISTMAS SPECIAL. DONNIE AND MARIE had gone off the air December 1979.
@pizzaguy2002 I know. I saw PINK CHRISTMAS the year it first aired because I was a big Pink Panther fan. RUDOLPH'S SHINY NEW YEAR first aired on ABC in 1976, December 8, to be precise. Commercials like this really make me time sick if such a word exists which it doesn't. I miss the old ABC announcer Ernie Anderson, he had a voice for radio. He died in 1997.
@67nairb Can somebody please explain to me why Rankin-Bass Cristmas specials like this RUDOLPH'S SHINY NEW YEAR disappeared from the ABC airwaves in the early 1980s.
@landrykkb RUDOLPH'S SHINY NEW YEAR is available on video cassette and dvd and can be seen every December on ABC FAMILY CHANNEL'S 25 DAYS OF CHRISTMAS. But in erratic form, some scenes are cut out to make way for commercial time. RUDOLF'S SHINY NEW YEAR was last aired on ABC in 1982 after a six year run and hasn't been aired since.
@landrykkb AND not just RUDOLF'S SHINY NEW YEAR, other Rankin-Bass Christmas specials from the 70s began to disappear from the ABC airwaves in the early 80s: SANTA CLAUS IS COMIN TO TOWN; A YEAR WITHOUT A SANTA CLAUS; NESTOR THE LONG-EARED CHRISTMAS DONKEY; RUDOLPH AND FROSTY'S CHRISTMAS IN JULY; THE LITTLE DRUMMER BOY BOOK TWO; & FROSTY'S WINTER WONDERLAND.
@67nairb All are seen on ABC Family nowadays, the only two to return to ABC airwaves recently were SANTA CLAUS IS COMIN' TO TOWN and RUDOLPH'S SHINY NEW YEAR.
@JesseL85719 Not true, they have A YEAR WITHOUT A SANTA CLAUS, NESTOR THE LONG-EARED CHRISTMAS DONKEY (which wasn't my favorite), THE LITTLE DRUMMER BOY books I & II, FROSTY'S WINTER WONDERLAND and RUDOLF AND FROSTY'S CHRISTMAS IN JULY.
ABC used to be an awesome network, especially during holidays.
