Instead of complaining about anette so much, look at the flaws in tarja. Both are not perfect singers. Tarja was not that good in the beginning of nightwish specially live and live she still needs improving. Tarjas vibrato is just aweful and anette is not tarja but she sure improved alot in her 6 years in nightwish

Para decir mas, en algunas canciones en vivo Annete modifica partes y las canta un poco mas grave porque no llega a las notas altas que llegaba Tarja (una soprano...) Quizas lo que pensas que es mas agudo es la voz de nena de Annete, pero eso es el timbre, no los tonos a los que llega.

nono..I really hate when people say "a tru fan of nightwish". That is bs. We fall in love with bands for certain reasons. When they change their sound, in which they really did. Its not as hard and epic... Tarja was an instrument in that band.. Her voice was a part of it that made a whole. It wasnt just an average voice like mine or annettes ... it was what made it DIFFERENT. It made it not just another band. Each is a fan of their own type. It doesnt matter what others think. :)
@Sindasha Well, I can't argue with what you say. Nightwish is certainly a very different band today than it was when they did Oceanborn. But they were moving away from the over-the-top lyric soprano vocals before Tarja even left. Once is very different from Oceanborn. But...not everyone liked them for Tarja. She's great, but I also like them for Tuomas' music and songwriting, which are just as unique--even more than Tarja. Tarja's not that much higher than Epica's Simone Simons.

Although the most old songs doesn't sound anymore like we (or at least me) expect them to do, I think it was a good decision by NIGHTWISH, to choose someone with a totally different voice, which is also very beautiful!
I think it’s the only chance for the band and for Anette to develop, instead of being a copy of itself (or rather of Tarja) for the rest of all times. (I’m a big KISS Fan also… so I think I know what I’m talking about)

But still my humble opinion is that Tarja fits Nightwish like no one else, Anette is a good singer yes but not for this band. :D

Those songs demand a classically trained voice in order to present their actual scale. Anette's voice cannot support most of the old NW songs cause its not made or trained for that, ruining them as a result. And this is more than just my opinion, it is an objective fact.
@TheJeffBranham yeah she would be awesome if she was in a rock band, she just simply doesn't fit Nightwish. NW is a symphonic metal band with lots of orchestral elements which require an operatic/classicaly trained voice. No other kind of voice could fully represent their style. Do some searching on other symphonic/gothic/power metal bands, almost all of the vocalists are classical singers.

How could they replace Tarja. No one can replace her voice. Anette maybe a singer but she doesn't have the voice or the skill to sing Nightwish's song. Maybe Jessica Simpson but not Nightwish.

I agree, I love Anette's power in this song. And she knows it's amazing and she has fun singing it! They need to sing this one at every show, instead of some she can't really sing.
Well... one is amazing, extremely skilled and lends a really unique sound and quality to the song, and the other sounds like just another dime a dozen singer. Guess which one is which.

As for adding a unique quality, Tarja certainly adds a....ehm....unique quality..you could say, but so would a barking seal, or a tonally chromatic arrangement of squeaky dog toys.

Anette is also hit and miss, but most of the time she misses, and when she hits, you can hardly feel it.
Regardless of any of that, I am a HUGE fan of them both!

Tarja was lucky to be the first at "Sacrament", "wishmaster" etc. She assimilated the songs to her voice, absolutley free to give them her own stamp.
There is no chance for Anette to compete. Two Individuals never feel the same. Anette is no copy of Tarja, and I don't think that she should be. It seems to me, that Anette is just copying most time because many people still want a Tarja-copy.

@soraelegido hey,yo he estado en los conciertos actuales de tarja y creo que te equivocas no ha perdido ninguna facultad vocal, basta con que escuches el nuevo album WLB ufff, tarja ha mejorado hartísimo, su voz se escucha mas clara, mas versátil y por supuesto la parte lírica impecable como siempre, creo que la prefiero como solista. y por lo de anette ha mejorado mucho aún comete errores como cualquiera, pero aún así la prefiero cantando las nuevas rolas de nightwish
@Adrianabunbury bueno creo que he de darte la razón.. tarja ha mejorado mucho sus faucltades vocales en el último disco y creo que yo también la prefiero como solista, al igual que prefiero a nightwish con Anette que ha mejorado muchííííísimo desde el 2007, tanto como para ser capaz de dar conciertos como el de moscu o el del mitico hartwall arena :) Ambas son mis cantantes favoritas hoy en dia y unas cantantes de lo mejorcito en directo ;)
@soraelegido bueno anette no es mi cantante favorita en directo, pero ha mejorado insisto en que debería cantar mas las nuevas canciones de NW que las antiguas ya que éstas ultimas se nota y se escucha que aún las canta con dificultad y eso no es bueno para ella digo.
Tarja como siempre mi cantante femenina preferida tanto como solista como cuando hacía parte de NW.

Anette sure sings very differently, but a lot of people say that she doesn't fit Nightwish's style, or always misses the notes.
Like I said, Anette sings differently, but I think she makes something equally as awesome from the songs.
And yes, she does miss a few notes, but certainly not all of them. And she's gotten a lot better on Imaginaerum.
The best thing for Nightwish to happen, would be to make up with Tarja and have both Tarja AND Anette singing. That would be perfect.

I think it's not fair to compare the voices with examples like this!
After listening to a certain song some hundreds of times, you get used to a certain sound...
Tarjas voice is more classical than Anettes... sure… But I'm quite sure that Tuomas considered what voice he had, when he made those songs.
I think it would be confusing too, to listen to songs like EVA or THE POET AND THE PENDULUM with Tarjas voice all of a sudden...

@TheJeffBranham I respect your opinion but putting a rock singer into a symphonic metal band of such rank as NW would be risky not original. Those songs demand a classically trained voice in order to present their actual scale. Anette's voice cannot support most of the old NW songs cause its not made or trained for that, ruining them as a result. And this is more than just my opinion, it is an objective fact.

NW is a symphonic metal band with lots of orchestral elements which require an operatic/classicaly trained voice. No other kind of voice could fully represent their style. Do some searching on other symphonic/gothic/power metal bands, almost all of the vocalists are classical singers.

imo anette sounds so much better with alyson avenue...anyway it is just impossible to compare an untrained singer to a trained singer... and i think no singer on this whole earth will ever convey tuomas' feelings as tarja did..Tarja was like the soul of Tuomas :P... i dont get to see any emotion on anette (despite the fact that her voice is sweeter than tarja's)

They complete each other and that's why listening to NW songs from good old days AND from it's new style with Anette makes NW THE BEST BAND EVER.

As for adding a unique quality, Tarja certainly adds a....ehm....unique quality..you could say, but so would a barking seal, or a tonally chromatic arrangement of squeaky dog toys.
Tarja is pretty hit and miss, but when she hits, WOW!
Anette is also hit and miss, but most of the time she misses, and when she hits, you can hardly feel it.
Regardless of any of that, I am a HUGE fan of them both!

Tarja was lucky to be the first at "Sacrament", "wishmaster" etc. She assimilated the songs to her voice, absolutley free to give them her own stamp.
There is no chance for Anette to compete. Two Individuals never feel the same. Anette is no copy of Tarja, and I don't think that she should be. It seems to me, that Anette is just copying most time because many people still want a Tarja-copy.
Just wait! Anette will find her very individual way to sing. I'm shure, she has much to give!

Two voice too much different to be comparated! Neither Tarja not Anette are perfect, both of them did some mistakes and don't forget: SACRAMENT OF WILDERNESS is a very difficult song, even for Tarja's voice...of course Anette can't sing the original version...

Tarja and Annette are way to different to compare. I think she did a great version of this song. She is not trying to mimic Tarja.
Plus Tarja was off key alot. But she is perfect to me.
Overall. Im neutral. I thought Tarja's stage performance was better. I think Annette is doing her own thing with the songs.

@soraelegido hey,yo he estado en los conciertos actuales de tarja y creo que te equivocas no ha perdido ninguna facultad vocal, basta con que escuches el nuevo album WLB ufff, tarja ha mejorado hartísimo, su voz se escucha mas clara, mas versátil y por supuesto la parte lírica impecable como siempre, creo que la prefiero como solista. y por lo de anette ha mejorado mucho aún comete errores como cualquiera, pero aún así la prefiero cantando las nuevas rolas de nightwish

@soraelegido bueno anette no es mi cantante favorita en directo, pero ha mejorado insisto en que debería cantar mas las nuevas canciones de NW que las antiguas ya que éstas ultimas se nota y se escucha que aún las canta con dificultad y eso no es bueno para ella digo.
Tarja como siempre mi cantante femenina preferida tanto como solista como cuando hacía parte de NW.

I prefer the voice of Tarja, i like it, was wonderful for the style of NIGHTWISH, with Annete they are become very commercial, Annete have a good voice, ok, it sounds great but i think that, was a bad way, Annete is only a pop singer even she sounds great, now i only like some songs of nightwish... 2 o 3, sorry, its only an opinion...
