as I've been listening to Soundgarden much more, getting to know their music better etc, I think it's safe to say that Soundgarden was by far the most experimental band of the Seattle scene. Early stuff - raw, punk-like songs with some sabbath thrown in, Badmotorfinger - borderline metal, Superunknown/Down on the Upside - more experimental, melodic, progressive rock/metal.
@nenshoukun Not really, soundgarden has a lot of slow grunge songs. They only have a handfull of songs that are straight rock, kickstand being one of them.
@nenshoukun Soundgarden was more punk them any of em, listen to the early stuff. I also don't get why someone could ever call alice in chains metal, they were slow and not heavy, soundgarden bandmotorfinger was way harder then anything the other Seattle band did. Also calling it grunge is uneducated and stupid.
Kind of Nirvanaish?? Soundgarden is THE reason Cobain picked up a guitar my man. You dont know Soundgarden if you think this is the only punk they created. :)
Tbh I don't really know Soundgarden, they were the grunge band that i didn't really get into, I was more into Nirvana (as everyone starts off with) then moved onto L7, then Alice in Chains & Stone Temple Pilots, then to Pearl Jam & Mad Season.
Haha cool cool, I haven't listened to Grunge for a while now, Atm I'm into hair metal, Pantera & female pop singers haha, quite a mixture lol, but I'm on a music course so you find yourself exposed to a varied amount of music and you grow to like some of it when at one time you would've probably never imagined even considering listening to it lol
@medxray yea soundgarden was one of the pioneers of grunge along with melvins and blackflag(even though they r punk) and other bands.but i still like nirvana more :Dyep ur right :L teach that kid :P
Fuck me, that was awesome. kickstand was always one of my favorite Soundgarden songs from a long time ago, and its great rediscovering it on that level-looks like it was a great show. Soundgarden were so good!
What the hell?!? You guys are just immature amateurs on music: "punk created most of the music like rock"?? PUNK IS a FORM of ROCK MUSIC, dumbass. At least I have the fuckin manners to know my info before claiming it as a fact, rather than opinion, these are just opinionated rants, nothin more than that.

U cant be older than 8, cuze if ur over 8 u know thats just shame and sad and lame to talk about others unknown parents. But in this case, hwo can u get so pissed off for saying punk is gay? I mean, Okay, we all punk was created by 2 gay men. So what, u think it will forever be gay ? I'd say so. Punk is gay and never make it to heaven
You're obviously a guy that hates Indie Rock. The part of Grunge music that's indie is the loose, uncommon type of vocals that you hear in it. It's "screamy and shouty" because of it's hardcore punk influence. The reason it doesn't sound EXACTLY like punk vocals is because of the indie-rock style off-beat vocal ranges, which the vocalists use with occasional screaming. Another influence from Indie Rock is the discolored imagery most grunge bands use.
...and Pearl Jam isn't 'dead'. I know. When people say 'Grunge is dead', they mean the culture, that used to be very popular in the 90's, not the music, or the bands. I never said 'Grunge is dead', so I have no idea what you're on about. All I'm seeing are opinionated unreferenced rants from a kid that doesn't know what he's talking about. Don't bother replying if you haven't got any proof of what you're saying, or if you can't be fucked.
Where are you getting this information from? Your own head? Thrash is a very fast form of metal but it isn't simply "Metal but faster", it's faster BECAUSE of it's hardcore punk influence! Learn it, that's a fact, stop assuming other shit. "Screamy and shouty"? Stop ranting like a stupidass kid about this stuff. What I said in the last comment was all FACT. Don't believe me? look it up. If you got something to say against it, then show me some reference or reason for this bullshit you're saying.
Lol.. ehh bro you should learn a bit about the music first- Nirvana IS grunge, and Soundgarden is not purely Metal/Punk. The fusion of hardcore punk and heavy metal alone is called Thrash Metal. That was in the 80s. the grunge sound came when they put the slow stripped-down atmosphere of Indie rock into the mix, and made it sound all off-beat and 'dirty', AKA: Grunge. Thats history, not opinion. Just look it up anywhere. These mixes went a lotta ways, so they called all these bands 'alternative'
This song really shows their hardcore punk influence, as Soundgarden was one of the first ever Grunge bands and Grunge itself is almost a fusion of Heavy Metal, Hardcore Punk and Indie Rock. The song is still full-on Grunge though:D
Yeah I never thought the rest of this show was in circulation. This looks like the same '94 show that was in the My Wave video and in the movie Hype..some more info would be appreciated.
It isn't. I guess jafgrunge89 got it from the same source as I do, the Superunknown-CD Rom. This was a CD-Rom, on of the first, issued in 95. If featured 4 Videos, Fell On Black Days, Black Hole Sun, The Day I Tried To Live and an Interview Segement, plus this live Video Video of My Wave and three audio Tracks.
this is from the alive in the superunknown cd-rom
