For me, it looks like there are pure idiots competing in the race. This looks like an easily avoidable accident to me. Considering karting, I'm just a layman, so I actually can't assess the situation...if I'm on the wrong track, tell me!
@bluntactioncop You most certainly are on the wrong track, karting accidents happen SO FAST that its literally impossible avoid something like that. I've been in very very similar accidents, and there's just nothing you can do. The guy in the previously leading SwissHutlass got squeezed, the pack slowed and the guy behind the pack got catapulted. Those black bumpers are now implemented to try and avoid catapulting but unfortunately they didn't do their job this time.
@Shifterkart22 thanks for your comment. I watched the real-time part again (not the slomo) and it really looks inevitable....everything happens so fast. I guess there was a time where they used front spoilers which are getting pulled of in case of a rear-end collision. Why are they gone?
this was confirmed to me by Norm Trottier TSN Karting Analyst and top mecanics at SRA Karting Racing team in this event, temp was 31 celsius so I doudbt they needed to take some air off radiators to get temp higher
@TheCinephil did they comfirm you about that they can adjust the fuel mix in rotax max? I raced in rotax last year in sweden and its not allowed here. It should be same rules because its a internationall class :S I know that in yamaha whit kt 100 engins it allowed to adjust the fuel mix during the race :)
i know how thermostats work...but i also know that they do not work as great as you may think...for a hobby racer it may be satisfying but in racing with half a warm up lap....it isn't enough to put a thermostat in your cooling system...sorry, but in big international races we do not even use thermostats, because they don't work fast enough! instead we use an arm or a radiator blind...so we can control the temperature by ourselfs and do not have any problems in case of a thermostat failure...
wtf a red flag ohh cmon were i raced when something happends like that we get the yellow tell the cart is off the track we only get red if there was near death involved
you should see duel 135 cc formula two stroke karts run on a one mile stright away, speeds over 200 mph, im not sure thay run this type racing anylonger its enduro racing on like motor speed ways here in new castal indiana we have a 5 mile kart racing track here, its realey fast, but rotex shifter karts are the norm here, in green field indiana we use to race in a park at very high speeds not many things can out run a go kart many have tryied it but thay always get beat,
it looked like the car number 34 caused the accident after the race was stoped the guy in black with white stripes on his arms and legs and blue green yellow helmet to the left of the screen he looking bewilldered walking in cercles way down at the end in the pits, he caused the accident ive seen this before, a driver after a accident is lost bewilldered can't get his bearings,
why did they red flag it if it was only one racer that actually crashed, there was no injuries and the kart was not in the middle of the road, the race could have continued i dont understand?
Hi there, bare in mind this is an editing of the 12 cameras on site . there was not a feed of all cameras official could see so they only relied on radio communications for their decision.
Also bare in mind that the ambulance was called on the track to check him out so red flag
@YAZBECKF1 no not necesarily if i was out of the race without putting myself in more danger or other drivers,i would have been ok being on my way to hospital and letting the race continue, yes that would be ok for me
@sid4schumacher usually its to restrict the air, like pulling out the choke on a pre-D.I. car to increase the fuel to air ratio before the engine is warmed up.
sometimes it isn't necessary to pinch your fuel line especially for the rotax max. but anyway...they had a short warm up lap, so sometimes you put your arm over the radiator to get more heat into the engine. otherwise they use an adjustable radiator blind to help getting the right temperature for the engine, because a cold engine has a better chance to blow-up than a warm engine. you would also see that if you look closer...no hand on a carburettor but an arm on the radiator.
thats what i always did at my ica time. but i had the radiator on the left side and had to take care for my carburettor, too. that wasn't really easy but worked pretty well ;) anyway. nice track but it looks kinda dangerous according to modern race tracks even monaco. 40cm high bales of straw to stop a high speed crash? are you kidding? i think some more and higher tecpro barriers would be more effective and safer. especially along the waterside. these fences wouldn't help in a serious action.
@kartcorse19 Huh? What does it have to do with cruising around? A thermostat constantly adjusts how much coolant can flow to the radiator to maintain exact coolant temperature all the time.... if you don't know how thermostats work just say so bro.

MINI MAX 10-13 (some 13 are competeng in JR)
Rotax JR 14-15 (depending on size ) some 16 are too heavy to compete with JR
so they make the jump in Senior
Rotax Max SR 16 and above (those in the clip are)

they put their hand on radiator to get the temp up. these motors run perfect at 170 degrees. so they warm them up as high as they can
Krzy98 5 months ago
why do they place their hand on the radiator on the warm up lap :/
sid4schumacher 5 months ago
@sid4schumacher
Hi there , they are not putting their hand on the radiator, they are pinching the fuel line
these engines aren't built to run at idle... so to reduce fuel intake before the green flag and for a clean start
thats is actually what they do according to TSN Karting Analyst and long time mecanic Norm Trottier
TheCinephil 4 months ago
@TheCinephil What happens if you don't do that? These are rotax engines is it?

What happens if you don't do that? And what engines are these?Rotax?
sid4schumacher 4 months ago
@TheCinephil Are you sure that they are pinching the fuel line? That isn´t allowed in rotax max if I remember
it right.... If you ask me why they are putting their hand on the radiator is beacause they want the right enginetemperature before the race starts.
kimi850 3 months ago
@sid4schumacher usually its to restrict the air, like pulling out the choke on a pre-D.I. car to increase the fuel to air ratio before the engine is warmed up.
