  • My brother went to Specs Howard

  • Detroit is too dangerous to spend money to fix. No one wants to do business there.

  • how about using it as a station again. And developing the rest of the building for various uses.

  • I've seen so much of this on video, I hope they don't tear it down!

  • the idea of turning it into a casino would be an excellent idea...its a shame if they would tear it down.....lol I watch one video with someone driving by the old station now I cant stop seaching about videos on it....

  • Great video. My first visit to MCS was also in 1999, although it was February. Met Catfish, and he showed me around.

  • so sad.

  • How long has this station been abandoned? It looks like it is in pretty bad shape.

  • January 5, 1988

  • This video was filmed in 1999. At the time this was filmed it had only been abandoned for 4 years. It hasn't been used since 1988 - but it was maintained until 1995.

It looks much the same today as it did in that video. smashed and vandalized.

  • Nice! at 1:30 there is a DUBL tag.. I was with DUBL when he did that piece, he now lives overseas, I know he would like this!

  • just visited family in gross point, and of course toured detroit, mcs is one of the few things i remember, i hate to say downtown was nothing. but you should fight it, its been 10 years.

  • pfft yea thats all they know how to do is rip stuff down, and maybe use one ornate side of it for a new building or strip it of its glory and denude it for use in a lifeless modern facility. just like they did in los angelous with the ambassitor hotel that was a set of many movies and the site of robert kennedys assassination. The school said they would save the theater, yet denude all of the ornaments and facid and then use it showing it off like some prisoner of war that is being humillitated

  • I wish they would at least do something even if it means humiliating a brilliant train station. This was posted 6 months ago so this probably wasn't news then but they want to tear down the train station. Public Officials calling it an eye sore. I hope they can some how save it, even if to be a Casino or Museum. Heck trying to bring Amtrak to the idea of restoring and using that as a station again would be a good idea. Tearing it down is a disaster.

  • a musium would be better, but detroit is not the worlds best place to set up shop, curruption like chicago a mile high mafia, and crime rate to match. Sure it has an illustrius past in the auto industry and music with motown records. But there just isnot much there except for hard times especially now with it being so hit by the auto industry, I hope that we can save our past and our automotive industry its not just for the sake of pride its part of out history and our culture.

  • this is my favorite Detroit building but neither arcitect in this video gave a profitable reason to keep it up like the guy said they were going to.... just a comment.

  • A little more time, rising fuel costs-in the town known for what drove it from service, ironically-will bring it back.

  • I used to live in Detroit. That is still a beautiful and wonderful building. I am saddened that they let it get in its current condition. I have no clue why this could not be a casino. With the rise of fuel costs every where and public transportation becoming more used I dont know why it can not be a bus/train station . Amtrak is seeing record profits why not see if Amtrak and the city of Detroit can reach an agreement & fix it, as a train station once again. Great video..

  • i agree with ya it would be a shame if they soil the building with a casino they need to bring it back to it former glory as a train station

  • yes but better than nothing!

  • yeah

  • like Chernobyl..

  • Never been to Detroit but after seeing this video it sounds as if there is hope for this property, while 80 million is a great deal to rehab it imagine the cost of a new building the same size....seems to make sense to save this property, sad to see what 21 years of decay did to it since it closed in 87.

  • some one has to do somethig. this needs to be saved.

  • MCS was never fully occupied even in its short heyday. Like the ill-fated Buffalo Central Terminal station, MCS was just way too big. Add to this Detroit's depopulation of close to one million in the last 50 years. However architecturally significant MCS is, it will eventually come down

like Tiger Stadium, Hudson's and so much of the rest of old Detroit.

  • yeah sadly it probably will come down like so many other of Detroit landmarks

  • Not bad- I'd like to see something done with it too

You should post this as a video response to my MCS video. It will get more views.
