I am so pleased that this was sent to me via the group. Although the video quality is poor it does not diminish the high quality of this performance. Somewhere in my collection I have this performance also on VHS. One of my favs! Thank You
Four bass players on this song, but only three are playing. The bass players are: Steve Swallow (Solo), Tom Barney (house bass), and David Sanborn son. He's standing next to Tom Barney. Sorry I can't think of his name right now, and my VCR tape is around here somewhere. The bass play that didn't play was Bootsy Collins. My Man, what a way to add the Funk!
that's actually not marcus miller on bass. i don't remember who it is, but it's not him. although marcus was a member of the house band for a while. incidentally, it's omar hakim on drums. famous for his stints with several bands including sting.
i remember staying up late on sunday in high school to tape these on vhs. check out red hot chilli peppers and miles davis for some great performances on this show.
NIGHT MUSIC was broadcast from 1988-1990. It was originally called SUNDAY NIGHT, and it put well-known musicians from different genres on the same stage to perform each other's music. God bless Hiram Bullock, one of THE greatest guitarists of ALL time.
This is from David Sanborn's "Night Music" live TV show circa 1982. Night Music house band plus guests including: Carla Bley - Piano Steve Swallow - Bass Karen Manter - Organ (Carla's daughter) Marcus Miller - Bass Bootsy Collins - Vocals Hiram Bullock - Guitar David Sanborn - Alto Pretty Fat - Background vocals Not sure about others in horn section or rhythm section are. I have been looking for this for years, thanks for posting. Get yourself some healing power...

Dave Sanborn is a hot musician, but he's a boring-ass interviewer!

it certainly is carla and Steve..i think marcus Miller is playing too, so with swallow and Bootsy and marcus, thats a pretty hip bass trifecta
