I think that your connection is going to corrode at the double male coupling because it is brass. The female coupling you attached it to looks like steel. The dissimilar metals touching will start corroding. You can either replace the brass parts with steel or use lithium grease at the connection. The latter will slow corrosion instead of prevent it though.
@SharkieSean Well I certainly don't want to replace the brass rabbit. And yes just like the perfect love relationship everything couples up perfectly in the beginning and then the erosion slowly takes effect. Thanks for the lubrication suggestion ; )
Well I see it's in your front yard. Here in California they made it mandatory to have those on. The deal is...I tried to change my faucet and found out it was soldered on to the pipe. At this point, I'm going to live with the drippy faucet and waste a million gallons of water. California is the most fu*ked up state in the union.
@Parrott65 I wanted to do the experiment with my very cool new wrench and I was amazed that it did not damage the threads. But yes you are right, it's best to aviod clamping down on the threads. Ultimatly the story goes I knew better but at one point the wrench slipped over the threads and I had to use that footage to make the scene flow smoothly. It's difficult to do this and film this by myself. So it was ultimatly an artistic decision and I knew good for conversation too!
Thank you for the video. I have the exact problem. Is there possibly an easier to solution. I tried tighten the nut under the turn handle. It stopped the leak but the handle becomes too tight to turn.
@mickeylehuynh I'm a plumber and figured you might want some input on this. If that's happened, then probably the rubber gasket on the stem is worn out. It's a very cheap fix. What you want to do is turn off the water to the pipe from inside the house, turn the same nut you were referring to and take the stem out. There should be a rubber little gasket on the end of the stem. Remove it and take it to a plumbing supply house or Home Depot and match it up.
@mickeylehuynh I'm pleased you got some advice from Mickey the real plumber but I really must add that you will enjoy using the faucet more if you replace it with a decorative faucet.
what the heck was you thinking when you tightened down the new brass nipple? You should never attach pliers or wrenches directly over the threads. You should have put the reducer on first and grabbed it to tighten the whole mess at the same time.....tisk tisk. I'm a carpenter/handy man
@SurprizedDaily It was a fiming thing and really I wanted to see how if the wrench would trash the threads or not. And Yes you are brilliant it would make more sense to attach the reducer first to the rabbit faucet. I'm going to have to consult you next time ; ) thanks for watchig.
@TheHandyGoddess - Hello HG, it would've been a bit late, had you trashed the threads, you'd have had to go all the way back to the hardware store for another...lol! Consult with me anytime. You welcome, was my pleasure watching and thank you for sharing....If you ever need a hand with any of your handy work, give me a holler. :o )
I love it. The camera work, the comedy, the sexuality, not to mention I actually learned something. Awesome. I'd let you work on my pipes any day. lol
Well done video for sure, just a note, when you tighten that pipe extension, don't put the wrench on the pipe threads,U would apply the wrench to the unthreaded part of the pipe to avoid damaging the threads. But like I said nice video and demonstrated enthusiasm I was that excited over a ball of string once, LOL
so, when do you fix the leak? also, it wouldn't be that easy without the 'magic wrench' where could i get one of those? before you answer I live in New Zealand.
Good job Barb, you sure can handle those tools like as expert! never saw a magic wrench before, might have to google one up. enjoyed this vid allot, and the sexy way ya say Brass Nipple! ;-)
Your videos are getting better & better so it's another 5 stars 4 U! Keep them vids coming.
Dear Barbara, I come home today to find out that the water to my house is completely tainted and destroyed. I guess after my wife watched this informational piece she decided she could do the same thing. I have spent extensive time trying to shield her from these sins of womanhood. Worst of all, my dinner wasn't even ready when I got home. You won't get away with this, I have reached my climax with your shenanigans.
Oh my what have I created in your wife! How about I make a video on how to make a vegetarian rabbit stew and hopefully that will make-up for everything.
Nice Job! A great alternative to the plumbers tape is a Teflon paste (available Menards), Works infinitely better at sealing. A scrap piece of cardboard on that copper pipe will protect the threads while you are tightening the connection.
I've started stowing a roll of that teflon tape under every sink in the house, it seems to be the one thing I can never put my hands on when fixing something
