  • FUORI RUOLO E FUORI REPERTORIO ( FLOREZ ).

  • Let´s face it. Pleasant to listen to, but obviously too a leggero for this opera.

It´s up to JDF to organize his career...and I agree with him that this role is not for him...for the moment.

  • this performance is obviously mic'ed as juan's part getshighleted near 2:20 if you have listened to other versions with pav or domingo ithe tenor isnt nearly as prominent especially over the soprano!!!!:-)

  • He stopped singing this role after two performances (Callao and Dresden) for fear it would damage his light lyric voice. I think his performance should have been preserved via CD for posterity since his singing is so technically flawless and we will never hear him sing the role again. As far as I know these You Tube excerpts will forever be the only record of his performance.

  • His timbre still is leggiero, but indeed he should sing it with his real voice. And the voice doesn't sound too small at all. I think he can sing this role. Some people exaggerate and tell him to sing Bel Canto, but then they can't even spell it... makes you wonder ...

  • I think it's interesting that he sings this role with his own voice, which is precisely what needs to be done here. Others tenors with bigger voices is the norm for this repetoire. He is not doing anything vocally wrong. It's a smaller voice with nearly flawless technique. THis is not going to ruin him to do a few of the "bigger" roles. It would be fascinating to see him do Chenier- maybe a more intimate portrayal of this character in which we are so used to hearing massive instruments.

  • Awful!!! this rendition is absolutely out of question!

  • no per cantare Verdi, torna a Rossini

  • Besides the audio of TV Peru sucks, his voice isn't made for this role, he should stick with Bellcanto (Rossini, etc)

  • when I hear this it makes me feel that Verdi did not even write it, his voice is to small.

  • I think JDF sounds totally wrong in this repertoire and I hope he sticks to the lighter roles he is much more suited to.

  • beautiful, although I suspect a mic, or two, are in place....there are some unnaturally present voicing coming out of the texture...

  • I agree, awkward imbalances, probably a very dry hall, and overtones/voices don't travel well therein, consequently the artists need body mics...

  • simplemente BELLO, que gran acto, Maestros!
