  • David-you are a great Messanger!

  • HAHAHA!! Classic David Lynch

  • "Maybe if there weren't so many pigs in New York, there would be fewer rats." That's what you heard at the end of the original tv version.

  • Frankly a lot of littering comes from people throwing their cigarette butts to the ground at storefronts and bus stops. There's just no defending smoking at this point.

  • Giant space rat sited, sir. AAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHH IT'S ATTACKING OUR BAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAASEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEeusdfzbru8esvtiouetoputawopuwv5youv45weyop;pw45 w'p0wct4m ,'se,sese.w..zswzawoaw39aaw2334684

  • He didn't even need to buy black and white film. New York is always that black and gritty.

  • Just looks like any ordinary day in a NYC subway station, lol.

  • @MrMartianLove Wtf...

  • why am i watching this

  • I thought it used to say "The reason New York has so many rats, is because New York has so many pigs"

  • Я и не думал,что Линч такая бездарность в рекламе.

  • It may make you bitter but I like to litter. I throw my trash on the ground. My mess can be found all around. On the highway the crazy old indian cries when out of the window my cigarette butt flies

  • i love how it's the same music from twin peaks

  • What the Fuck? This is weird, and I'm a person who watched Eraserhead AND Saw all the way through.

  • I love how David Lynch can give a dark, gritty feel to just about any subject.

    AWESOME!

  • If you don't stop littering, we have trained rats to eat your face. You should see how they leap, it's amazing. They go for the eyes first, but don't think that knowing this beforehand will help you any. You only have two hands and we release them in packs of three.

  • Rats are less harmful than people who litter.

  • I litter all the time and I have never seen rats in my city. If you want to yell at me for littering email me at slouchypaul@yahoo.com

  • great spot! it was made by Jerry Della Femina's agency and I think was David Lynch's first commercial...

  • david lynch rules

  • twin peaks music!

  • This is a clear demonstration of bigoted rat-hate.

Rats are interesting and affectionate companions.

  • it's ok but where's nic cage

  • was that guy holding a torch?

  • We made a music video inspired by Lynch's work on our channel.

  • I think he took some cues from Hitler's "The Eternal Jew." See v=oVurfhMw1UU

  • that was epic

  • What year was this PSA from?

BTW, this is one hell of a scary PSA! 100% Nightmare Fuel D:

  • What a wankfest.

  • @phlegmfatale shut the fuck up you fucken old fatt slut,,go put a dick in your mouth,,thats all your good for your no more than a blowjob to me bitch

  • does anyone know where I could find the music? or what it's called for that matter?

  • Holy shit, I'm never littering again.

  • I'm sure that Lynch has seen the sequence equating phony "facts" about the "spread of rats and plague through Europe" (with the shots of rats rushing through sewers) to equally phony "facts" about the "spread of Jews" in Fritz Hippler's _Der ewige Jude_ (1940). The style is completely different; Hippler was a hack, and his film was so over-the-top that supposedly German audiences laughed at it. Still, Lynch is too smart not to be aware of and play off the Nazis/rats/repulsiveness equation.

  • Not scary ?

  • Many ethnic people and cultures have been referred to as rats. None of these rats steals anything, wears a yarmulke, or has a Star of David (the classic racial stereotype) , so this doesn't qualify as Anti-Semitic propaganda. In short: you have no clue what you're talking about.

  • Excellent commercial. The message is simply clear.

  • this PSA is seriously prejudiced against rats

  • A funny PSA on anti-littering that may make you feel better - search for "anti littering PSA bin" and you'll see it. :)

  • the one PSA that might scare people

  • now i know why i put often thing i should throw away in my pockets...in the city where i live on every citizen comes two rats....

  • is it just me or does this PSA look really ANTI-SEMITIC???????????

  • @ffejgib oh yeah... totally. wtf are u talking about?

  • Comment removed

  • @deadline27

the classic stereotype of the jewish people is the RAT

  • @ffejgib well, gee... see i would have never known that unless you pointed it out to me. see, this video was suppsed to be about cleaning up NYC which has a serious and documented rat problem. i'm part jewish and never even knew that... i wonder if it makes you anti-semetic for reading into things just a little too much.

  • @ffejgib lol, "stereotype"? You should learn the meaning of words before tossing them into a sentence.

  • @nakabar

In Nazi Germany before and during WW2, the jews were characterized as "RATS".

If you don't believe me, watch "Inglorious Basterds".

  • @ffejgib"Ingluorious Basterds", one of the most historically accurate films ever portrayed. You must be full of knowledge. Apparently, however, you don't realize that a 'stereotype' is something that a group of humans can actually be; a common trait within a certain group. Unfortunately for your theory, if Jews were rats, they wouldn't be Jews, they'd be rats. Understand?

  • @nakabar

Before and during WW2, the Nazis Characterized the jews as "RATS".

  • @ffejgib What is anti-semitic about this? NYC has more than its fair share of rats and for some reason I can't make the connection to a particular group of people. Please explain.

  • @1atheist2

Before and during WW2, the Nazis characterized the jews as "RATS".

  • @ffejgib Lighten up dude...this is an ad about littering. It has nothing to do with any ethnic groups or Nazi propaganda, unless of course, you think that rats are an ethnic group.

  • мамочки, страх то какой!!!

  • NOt very scary. The first Play Station commercial it's the scariest one.

  • hahah sooo over the top!

    Love it!

I also like how it has the music from Twin Peaks on it

  • aww rats

  • What is with these over-the-top PSAs?It's nice to know that the government wastes the taxpayers money on crap.

  • this is perfect! they need to air this in New York now more than ever!

  • I don't get it. Do you call that phone number to narc on someone who litters or to schedule an appointment with a therapist after seeing that commercial?

  • lol

  • My wife & I moved from New York State to Texas this past summer because of NY's HIGH taxes. The real "rat" problem is not with rodents, it's with New York State's lawyers & politicians !

  • AND THE RATS COME OUT AT NIGHT!

    This is fantastic!

  • Wow. That was the Eraser Head of PSAs.

  • well rats do eat food yes, but the rats arn't a litteral thing. the rats represent sort of filth and disease you know. just to give a dirty feeling to it (also it seems they are using it to make a nest).

I'm fairly shure that's the meaning of this all anyways but lynch can be VERY confusing, I just think I'm good at understanding his meanings.

  • Hey that's Tish and Snooky! Hanging out with some dangerous biker gang led by Eddie Dixon.

  • Looks like a regular day in NYC, what's the big deal?

  • uh not sure if you knew this but rats eat food, you know, edible things. not your burger or ice cream wrappers

  • @spites1

Rats eat paper and stuff, or at least chew on it if it has any kind of food smell or bits stuck to it. So I think it still attracts them.

  • Where's the crying indian?

  • In the sewer.

  • Start spreadin' the neeeeews! ♪

  • Knowing Lynch, he was probably taking the piss when he made this. It looks like a World War II propaganda film.

  • It's super effective!

  • Lynch

  • cool story bro

  • Lol this is back when having a commercial like this was completely justified because littering wasn't considered a problem.

  • NOICE

  • I don't get the connection between littering and giant rats taking over the city. Are they just trying to condition people to associate littering with their fear of rats?

  • yeah hell yeah

  • Seeing that David Lynch is everywhere, we might as well have him making a Superbowl halftime show or a McDonald's Commercial. I would watch them.

  • Funny not scary

  • The best thing ever made by Lynch, Creepy!!

  • Did you see that big rat eating all those people?!

  • OOO SO SCARY

  • OVER 9000

  • people should also stop spitting to the streets, at least in Helsinki.

  • Who cares about that? It's a small, wet spot that disappears after 2 minutes.

  • Maybe you spit - You don't care.

  • Yes. But still, I do not see the problem with spit on the street?

  • Well, first, it is not aesthetic for your eyes. Avoiding spit spots when walking. Then, there are some youngsters who do it a lot, so there is a one pool there...

    In Singapore : it's illegal.

  • @slws Oh my god street spitters should be fined. I hate that.

  • So funny

  • this is pretty hilarious, i don't find it terrifying at all.

  • It's made up to be so scary it's funny. Especially the end

"We Care About New York" *scrrrrreeech!*

  • All too late the rats are there. I've seen them now they come and get you New Yorker. Here in Germany this is not a problem as new yorker is a shop that sells tacky clothes - so we don't mind if rats eat those shops. But over there in the north of usa I heard new yorkers are real people

  • >But over there in the north of usa I heard new yorkers are real people

Nope. They're made of cardboard balls - tightly seemed in glue. Overwhelming technique. It's remarkable. The only real ppl in the U.S. are born in kansas inside foundations of the mundane. These kind of ppl are common to germany, switzerland and parts of the ukraine as well.

  • Wow, thanks for this insight into US society. As we in Europe say: One never stops learning ;-D

  • >What a great album!

Woohoo! Very cool. Yeah the last three were brilliant.

  • "They're made of cardboard balls - tightly seemed in glue. Overwhelming technique"

That seemed strangely familiar, and then I remembered my user name.

    What a great album!

  • I once read that Vliet gave up on making music because he didn't think anyone cared about his stuff. I think he was wrong. The last three albums were critically acclaimed and very good. I think he expected more ppl to like them. But it's not pop music so what did he expect?

  • tacky clothes? what the fuck? aren't you german? and your clothes are what? sheesh, im a new yorker motherfucker - german descent - ever been to new york? we are real people, and the rats are fucking there! peace but dont talk outta your ass

  • Sorry, didn't mean to insult anybody - just had my head full of silly ideas and nobody else to tell them. I've been to New York and I loved it - I had a great time there - I always wanted to go back to this city of all cities - which is my true opinion New York. About German clothes: Yes we are a nation of Hasselhoff fans ;-D

  • clean your city now before the rats get you in your sleep ,

  • scarey

  • what years did this PSA run? looks 70s/80s to me from that quick shot of the NYC Cab, but i can't be too sure

  • its the seminar on the man-eating rat people :O

  • the music was exactly the same as in Twin Peaks, very cool

  • HOLY MACKEREL! That was possibly the most intense clean-up\environmental commercial I have ever seen! It felt like it was evoking an Orwellian and bleak future very reminiscent of the 1984 'Riddley Scott Apple TV' spot. Mise-en-Scene: very deeply old-school-archetypical LYNCH!!.

    Thanks for the post!

    vjd7

  • very lynchian indeed.

  • this is sooo david lynch

  • Astounding.

  • what that fuck! i´ll never do it again..

  • Love it. Now lets see him create a PSA about global warming.

  • David Lynch says DON'T FUCKING LITTER!

  • @YaySimoneYay Actually, that would be an awesome sign to have made.

  • oh god the closeup of the rat's mouth... ahhh! creepy!!

  • Wow. Only Lynch could make littering that terrifying. I've got to say though, many of his commercials turn out seeming almost like caricatures of his style and this one is no exception. Insanely dramatic and overwrought.

  • @demonscrowley Well, why else would they hire him to do the commercials, than to have them done in his styles?

  • They are coming...up from below...

  • what

  • That music sounds awfully familiar. Is it from Twin Peaks?

  • Nice audio, too.

    When did this originally air?

  • *mindraped*

  • I hate it when people litter. :[

  • Thank you, Mr. Lynch.

  • Also, I would really love to see an Eraserhead teen pregnancy PSA.

  • lmfao, imagine that ! i remember this from a while ago tho

  • Lol. That would be awesome! :D

  • That gum you like is going to come back in style. Do not throw the wrapper on the ground.

  • The rats are not what they seem...

  • Here to explain is the Log Lady's city-dwelling sister, who carries around a chunk of steel girder.

  • I *adore* rats, and this ad STILL freaks me out!

  • fantastic

  • David Lynch is an absolute genius!!!

  • That is from Badalamenti's score on Lynch's show Twin Peaks...amazing addition to an old commercial.

  • It's awesome to see Lynch's style used for a good cause; if you litter, you're slowly creating THAT world!

  • ffejgeb, thanks for the info. Yes, that's the one I was thinking of. A definite match!

It's funny I already have 2- against my previous comment. I guess any mention of Nazi propganda makes me anti-semetic. How wonderfully intelligent and astute of whoever left those thumbs down, not. I think u need some growing-up to do before trying to discuss film-makers possible influences. U probably didn't put a thumbs down next to the Riefenstahl comment 'cause you don't even know who she is. Planks!

  • Master David Lynch!!

  • Leni Riefenstahl would be proud :D

    Masterpiece...

  • That reminds me of the old Nazi propaganda films attacking the Jewish people.

  • You're talking about "The Eternal Jew".

  • Cheers for that.

  • Jesus F*ck. That's creepy sh*t.

  • Thank you David I respect that move!

We are not only littering like motherfuckers.

    Recycling should be law!

Imagine how much glass etc.we are burying(or sinking)on this earth. If it goes on like this we really gonna have a trash mountain like in Idiocracy one day.

Treat the planet like you'd be it.

  • Ratty video.

  • David Lynch is a fucking maniac and I love it.

  • I love to Toss Salads and Penetrate Warm Apple Pies...w-My Tongue that is. mmm Good!

  • ha. funnily, the rat scenes are pretty similar to 'der ewige jude' (eternal jew), an old nazi propaganda film... everything can be recycled

  • ууууу. i'm not gonna throw anything...and i din't, and i don't live in NYC, but that's ok,

  • The good thing about using rats in your ad is you don't have to pay them much!

  • I always toss my cigarette butts out of the car window. I make sure the fire is out first.

  • i can see your reasoning as you think cigarette butts are only small and won't amount to much waste. But its like me jacking off into your pot roast; you're portion on your plate isn't going to have that much of my sperm in it.

Next time you toss a cigarette out of your car, someone might have jacked off in your lunch. Think about that.

  • excellent point of view!!

  • thats deep

  • you toss too many saledz ;(

  • dude...do not jack off in my fucking pot roast..

  • That's a brilliant analogy. I love it! =)

  • you should kill yourself, you know that? you should fucking kill yourself you worthless sub-human piece of shit. nobody, including god, would or could ever love you so you should just die. nobody likes a racist fuck-head.

  • But that's what they're saying, right?

  • Rats come from inside my body to outside my body, through an opening between my legs.

  • wow. did this air?

  • wow that was visceral.

    the man is a genius.

  • Damn! I'll bet David didn't need to direct anyone or anything...just had his camera out at the right time.

  • David Lynch at his u
