seen him yesterday @ the food and drink festival in liverpool and he rocked everybody loved him AND.....i'm recording him for my music project in school
superb version of this all time classic, really well done John :) I love Sungha Jung's version too, but think this is better as it's closer to the original.
i went to him lastnight,i just think hes brilliant,,he played a song with his 2 backing singers,,it started of going to bed with no kiss goodnight? i loved it but cannot remember title?
@penrose005 hi john ,,nope its not that one,,,its starts with...going to bed and no kiss goodnight? ive tried to remember title and got everyone up wall.you played it sunday in huyton.thanks ,,kim.
@MrDavedoc Have a look on my site johnpig.com and listen to Honeypot which starts "Every night we turn out the light, we don't kiss each other baby, that's not right....." If it's definitely not this one I'm puzzled too.... Let me know how you get on!
started learning this withing a couple of months of playing guitar a few years back, but i hit a wall just before the chorus and i never got round to learning it, i'd play the part i knew at parties and stuff and i'd stop when i got so far and have to say "sorry folks, dont know the rest" but i've been playing almost 3 years now so i think im up to learning the rest, cant wait!!
This is still one of my favorite covers, you got it mastered man! i love the subtle touches you added, keep it up!!!
@ThatMetallicaGuy This is just due to not playing enough. If you play your guitar enough, steel vs nylon wont make a difference in playability but instead changes the sound. That being said, this song is typically played on a classical guitar, which typically has larger spacing between the strings on the fretboard and nylon strings.
Fab version...the best I've heard on You Tube other than the man himself's version. Well done John. The TAB I have used to learn it isn't the best thats for sure! Where did you learn it?
Awesome! John. The best and closest to original on YouTube.
I'd like to see you play it just a little faster and more aggressively, like Michael Lucarelli, but I prefer your version. You definitely have the SKILLS to do it.
Finally, someone who plays the proper version of the high bit, I've been learning the barre chord version and I never see anyone else doing it, but it sounds the best and is actually how Mason Williams plays it. Great job, this is definitely my favourite version on youtube (:
Wow, I love this version and it's the one I am trying to emulate, problem is I just can't get a couple of parts right as tabs on the internet are not the same as what you are doing. They are too basic by comparison.
i gotta admit when you first started I seriously had some doubts cause it was slower than i would expect, but once you got into the main theme it was fantastic
Man, You make this look so easy. So smooth. This is another one of my favorite you tube videos. I come back and watch often. Thanks very much for sharing this. Awesome!
Been surfing youtube for quite some time now, listening to all the different versions out there. Have to say that this one and Tobuscus' version are my favorite. This one for it's obvious awesomeness and Toby's for it's unique character.

Wonderful performance. Been watching this or a few year's now. I recently got the Mason Williams book to learn it. I'm a bit confused though. The guy in the 'Classical Gas Note for Note' videos on youtube says that even the tab in the Mason Williams book is wrong. John/penrose005, could you please tell me if you play the tab exactly as it is printed in the book? Thanks in advance.
Awesome work on the guitar, you inspired me to also learn the song, although I have not used all the bar chords. This is one of the classic pieces, not bad for a guy that was a comedy writer for the Smothers Brothers!
@penrose005 same here sir. been listening to this since i found out the song existed. at first you play really slow and in tune. and everytime it kills me. because i feel as if you arent talented. then you kill it and ur amazing.
this is really impressing, thanks for uploading your version to Youtube.
Maybe you can do me (and others?) a big favour and post the ISBN-Number of the Mason Williams Song Book where you got the tablature from.
The reason why I'm asking for this, is that there a quite a bunch of Mason Williams Songbooks and Sheets available and many of them are not very accurate.
But your version is, so if it's not too unconvenient for you...

@Cryuss90 Oh, I never thought of that as a solo, technically in this version it's all a solo. In any case it's not a tuning, the piece is played in standard tuning.
