Why not other games do the skill over gear is simply answered: collecting gear takes time and for subscription based mmo's that time = money. For GW2, there is no monthly fee, so there is no reason for them to make armor hard to acquire. This allows them to create a real deep, complex combat system that promotes skill over anything else.

GW2 is the game everyone has been waiting for and my guild will be spending all the time GvGing or world PVP. Can't wait for this game to come out.

most of what you mention is simply an evolution of what we already have in GW1. Cross skills, works differently ie a ranger with a fire spec bow can synergise it with ele skills in his second prof cast by himself or another party member, damage control and support is pretty much how we do speed clears now. Eotn introduced to us the new playable races, faction and their skills and some more hidden dragons, infact you'll find hidden dragons in each campaign that will appear in GW2. Charrlie rocks!

My only concern about Guild Wars 2, from what I've seen so far, would be the artistic scenery vs a more realistic scenery. I happen to like the latter in a game, I don't want to feel as if I am in a painting.  However, the game seems like it has some great things with it and so I definitely plan to give it a try.
