Hmm.. my 2007 EU spec Ford Focus had - ABS, TSC and ESP as standard.. and AFAIK most of the cars, even the small ones do have these systems as standard today.
The next thing to wait for the small car segment is the distronic (i.e. radar guided) cruise control.
@rings123 Yeah, it is standard in Europe and has been for years. They're talking about the the US. The US doesn't acknowledge the rest of the world, even though it's known to occasionally adopt its technologies, albeit years late.
Mercedes-Benz pioneered ESP in 1995. ESP(ESC) is the same. If you look on the BPMV on the Sonata, you will see that it says both BOSCH, and ESP Hyundai was the ONLY mid-size sedan to offer it as STANDARD equiptment in 2006, and most "mainstream" sedans did not even offer it as optional until 2008-09. The car is only as smart as the driver. If you go into a curve at high speed, the laws of physics will take over. ** No system, regardless of how sophisticated, can repeal the laws of physics.**
ESP (ASR ABS EBD BAS) Standard Equipment since 1997 in all mercedes benz passenger cars. And S Class was the first vehicle in the world who incorporate much of the safety innovations like the airbag. Mid Size Sedans? C Class have ESP of the early models of three generations back
the 2005 Chrysler 300 was probably the first mainstream sedan to have this as standard equipment. MB, which invented the technology, has had this standard for a long time. (1998)
ASC and ESP not the same. ASC is just another name for Traction Control wheras ESP is Stability Control (which includes traction control and EDL also as part of the system).
In 2006 Hyundai broke through with ESC standard on all Hyundai Sonata models even the most basic model. Im not gonna lie i bought my Sonata for the price and value for the money. I have tried ESC for fun it kept my car in my on track while i was testing the feature im glad it did have to one dime extra for it at the time ESC was a $650 on camry I4 and V6.
Great. More electronics for people who can't drive.
I know another way to reduce fatal crashes. LEARN HOW TO DRIVE. Full throttle through a corner? On entry? Of course you understeered you fucking idiot.
thats what i always say the reason we have every saftey feature that we do in our cars is because these dumbfucks cant drive YAY FINALLY SOMEONE THATS UNDERSTANDS
ITS A DEMONSTRATION. He's not going to go do it on a cliff. He should have done a demo on a curve in the rain, or an abrupt lane change on wet pavement with it on or off. WOT in a curve is silly.
That's trying to simulate a scenario where you could lose traction. In reality it's easy to lose traction in winter, have you ever driven an old muscle car through ice, a car which has an ordinary differential (one wheel spins like crazy, the other does nothing) no traction or stability control? It's almost impossible to keep on the road. Just for the record I've never taken the ditch, this program just makes it easier.
I have it on my 07" Ford Explorer, it's called Advactrac with Roll Stability Control. And I had to do a major swerve at 73 MPH when a coil from a truck rolled in front of me, and the RSC came on and not only prevented a rollover, but kept the car in line.
Cool! I have an 04' 325i and had to swerve on an onramp around a piece of plywook with nails. The DSC, or dynamic Stability control, kept me where i wanted to go. I saved me from getting new tires!
I have an 09 pontiac vibe and was practicing e brake slides on a grassy field and the VSC is absolutely amazing. It applied various wheel brakes to bring the car back in line.
I'm glad to own a Sonata, I'm so use to taking on ramps at about 40, I was driving my friends Civic, and took an on ramp about the same way I would take it in my Sonata, and the car oversteared and I did an 70 skid/turn while on the on ramp boy was I scared!
As professional driver I do not need ESC to keep control of my car

As expert driver i can do just fine without it.

bmw use automatic stability control (ASC), which even though it does the same thing, isn't technically the same thing. and audi and VW use ESP.
i think for marketing purposes, hyundia are deciding to act like its a completely new technology even though it isn't.
think it has a lot to do with the royalities they have to pay to use these technologies.
