  • Sir Lou, dont'ya think is all time really, even in classic rock'a. r.,willing to share his inclination ..and a taste for perversity.?? In the nice sense of of what does this word mean, after all? Just in case life would be just a bit boring without? I.m.o. anyway.

  • Yeh Dick Wagner and Steve H are good guitarists ,but Mick Ronson smoked both of them !!!!

  • to me the best recorded album: dick and steve are icons! just doesn't get any better...period!

  • Makes me nostalgic for the real NYC, just a few years before we lost it to the yuppies.

  • One of THE best live Rock tunes ever! I hear something new every time I cue up this. "Hey baby -- Rock N Roll!" Those killer bass-lines just roll in at the right moment! If anyone ever decided to do up the definitive story (in film) of Rock N Roll, Lou Reed's live version of Rock N Roll (or, The Golden Age of Rock N Roll by Mott the Hoople) could be set at the closing credits. This is STILL king tone! A Happy and Hopeful New Year 2012 to all of those who ROCK N ROLL!

  • Stunning live performance; stunning guitar playing etc. and so forth!

  • Well, its been more than 26 yrs ago; I was at my cousin house in north east Italy; I've never heard about Lou Reed before..but out of the blue I saw an old tape on the shelf and It was written "Lou Reed Rock and roll animal". I just looked to my cousin's eyes and he nodded his head. We went out hangin around in the night with Lou Reed the king on th te car's stereo, And So It was: my life was saved by rock and roll. Bless you Mr. Lou Reed

  • Nothing but respect-my original Rock n Roll guitar HERO

  • This and Heroin are just runaway trains of guitar perfection that would make the best guitar players alive today cower like pussies-no flash bs here-the whole band equal each other in talent.. and their respect to soul, art and Rock and Roll is matched by very, very, very, very few.All the best to Dick Wagner

  • I was working on a shrimp boat out of Bolivar Peninsula c, 1977 or so. For some reason, we had a kick-ass stereo system on that boat. I remember sitting out on the deck one night with some friends, drinking beer and listening to the long guitar solo that begins around 4:25 booming out over this still cove off of East Galveston Bay we were anchored in for the night. Wow.

  • @maximumjohn1 That sounds incredible

  • This was my favorite album back in the 70's, Lou was at his best ! and the mix for a "Live" album is still one of the best.

  • Could someone please upload this song (Rock and Roll) from original disc!? That would be the best version in my opinion.

  • Agree, best Live album of all time. One of best albums ever. Saw Lou live many times, from seventies right up to today. Never dissappointed.

  • Hey Lou , you know about Piggy Piper?

  • Awesome song from an awesome album. This man is a GOD. Hurry back to Scotland Lou.

  • My friends and I were at this show in NYC - when it happened - best show in Rock 'n Roll history - I was flabbergasted when the first album was released - and then the 2nd one! - my older brother intro'd me to the velvets & lou - called me up and told me about seeing the show somewhere in the u.s. - I told him I'd seen the show in NYC - same one recorded here - best show in R&R up till then - hard to explain now - you had to be there - try to imagine - best show ever! -

  • One of the finest rock albums in history...

  • The songs from this album are the best versions due to the guitar team of Dick Wagner and Stephen Hunter, especially "Sweet Jane".They compliment each other to create one of the finest live performances I've ever heard. I have to believe the guitarists took it and made it 100 times the song it originally was. Being a bass player,( Awesome bass on here) I've played that version for years, not perfectly by any stretch but what a blast as the song is so melodic, with so many changes, incredible.

  • played this at the bar the other nite....aleast 5 different youngsters came and ask me WHO..WHAT...WHERE...said they never heard this before and thought it was GREAT....GOD i hate gettin old...but like they say"GETTIN OLD AINT FOR PUSSIES" rock on TILL U DIE

  • OMG to relive the memories of the "King of Punk". I've seen all the versions live but knowing this was Lou's FU to commercialism in music just makes it rock like no other. Who else would top this with Metal Machine Music. Lou, Love ya!

  • the best concert... 1979, bologna, italy...

  • This is definitely one of my favorite live albums of all time. But I also have to put Yessongs on my list along with Frampton Comes Alive. I know Frampton Comes Alive went commercial as hell, but it was also a great live album.

  • @ls1959 dont forget LIVE BULLET

  • My life was saved by rock n roll. rock n roll!!!

  • alright. alright. alright. alright. baby. baby. baby

  • The band was unbelieveable in the concert.

  • Rock N Roll ANIMAL~~私のルーリードはトランスフォーマー、ベルリンより、真っ先にこの官能ライヴ、まとわりつくハンターのギター、ルーの薬声

  • Hunter and Wagner also played with Alice Cooper on Billion Dollar Babies, Welcome to my Nightmare

  • It is Mick Taylor

  • Steve Hunter and Dick Wagner

  • Steve Hunter and Dick Wagner

  • This is the best live album in this universe.

  • TEMAZO SIN MAS COMENTARIOS, GRANDE ENTRE LOS GRANDES

  • im fuckin pissed y in the holy hell is the u.s. exempt from jane? sum free country, speech and press, but gun control is nonexistent, so give us guns but take our music. fuckin fascists

  • Think this was slightly ahead of it's time, duh!

  • I Think that is Mick Taylor On Lead Guitar

  • @Jay902017 Steve Hunter and Dick Wagner

  • @Jay902017 Steve Hunter and Dick Wagner

  • A classic - excellent guitar work

  • best live album ever blows everything away, the players were cosmic, lou had a touch it was alright

  • Still amazing after 35 years of listening. Of course best played loud on vinyl and a vintage 70s stereo. Everything from the stunning sound in the hall to the girl having her mind blown during the solo. Often wondered who played what and based on what I know now about Wagner's fingering and strumming style it seems he was the one playing that great wahwah rhythm guitar. Anyone know?

  • When I was a teenager I worked a part-time job to earn money for a guitar, amp, and a crybaby just so I could learn to play the rhythm guitar on this song. As a guitar player I SUCKED!, no doubt about that, but I could play the crap out of this tune :-)

  • F A N A S T I C

  • Notice the riff in the beginning? Sounds like Slash did some ripping off here for 'Sweet Child O Mine."

  • @ApeLikeCreature he's got a nice taste then

  • It is amazing that I still have any hearing left at all. I used to play this at maximum volume over and over and over and over..............when I was in High School in the 70's.

  • The Best Live Lp in the story of R'n'R.

  • Louuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuu...

  • I have always wondered and hoped to see this album on video. Theres this one a year later in Paris but not this very version, Is there?

  • slower tempo than lou reed gig in bottom line 83, but this backup band was awesome

  • one fine mornin or evenin i tuned in to L.R. and the world was different, (in a fine way).

  • Can someone please upload " Sweet Jane" again from this album, it's been removed. It's the best version of the song by far.

  • @bbugkil "Sweet Jane" has not been removed. The entire "Rock n Roll Animal" album is posted, though not viewable in Germany due to copyright restrictions.

  • @dg0557 Some of the album is still up but your upload of " Sweet Jane" has been blocked, and I'm in the U.S.

  • @bbugkil I see, they changed the copyright restriction on "Sweet Jane". I'll look into it to see if I can get an exemption.

I can't just upload it again without eventually getting myself kicked-off of YouTube entirely. I'll let you know.

  • @dg0557 YOU ARE WRONG SWEET JANE FROM ROCK AND ROLL ANIMAL IS GONE WITH DICK WAGNER AND STEVE HUNTER !. sorry for the caps !

  • @dg0557 Intro/Sweet Jane changed my life. By the way, this song (rock and roll) could almost be played on top of Blondie's "One Way or Another"

  • @dg0557 Does anyone know which Bass Player did this??

  • @precisionb It was Prakash John

  • @bbugkil Whenever a Lou Reed fan mentions this as their favorite "Jane" version, which happens pretty frequently, I have to make sure they have heard the slow version from the Velvet Underground's "1969" live album. That's the one the Cowboy Junkies copied verbatim to get their popular version. The best thing about the slow version is the way Lou used the "wine and roses" epilogue at the end. The chord change when Lou gets to the second "La la la la lalalala" can cause sexual gratification.

  • @bbugkil please . Dick Wagner Would lOve A link To it!

  • Well, you are talking just about a sound version compressed in mp3 that is the usual sound format in the net. I agree with you that the version of "Sweet Jane" from this album is th best and then it is better to get a CD version with all sounds recorded in the greatest album from Lou Reed. And I know all of them, for sure.

Anyway, if you don't get a CD version, you can put "the best live version : sweet jane - lou reed" in your YouTube. It is the version that you was looking for.

  • @bbugkil i just fornd a version reposted !

  • Steve Hunter on guitar, we them live @ this show while still living in Jersey! We regularly went to NYC for Lou, Ramones, Dolls, Pistols and more! Fucking awesome show, one of the best live shows I've had the pleasure to witness! Miss the 70's

  • TIMELESS....

  • Great guitar work!

  • I was 14 when i heard this albim the first time, and it is still one of my favorites. Lou is awesome.

  • Hunter & Wagner may get all the applause but band is only as good as it's bottom and drummer Whitey Glan and bassist Prakash John carry this band and are underrated!!!!

  • a must have!!!

  • rock guitar bible material

  • The original is proof as to how much Phish sucks! lol

  • What a climax to a stunningly good live show. The funniest thing ~ we're back to square one these days: "There's nothing goin' down at all."

    Thanks for the upload.

  • This is one of the greatest rock albums to be produced...EVER! (IMO). I saw Lou this summer at the Lennon movie screening at Central Park.....still on of the coolest effin dudes out there. He is NYC!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • i just found a dick on my lap

  • P.S. Other songs that we loved to dance are: You Are What You Is (Frank Zappa), Simpathy For The Devil (Rolling Stones), Jamming (Bob Marley), America (Gianna Nannini), Musica Ribelle (Eugenio Finardi )..... etc. Bye bye!

  • Many years ago, there was a disco where we danced and listened only to this type of music. Dancing until the point of exhaustion with this song, wild enough when you are about 20 y.o., was a great system to download our stress after the work. The best point of the disk, that we always waiting, is here: 4:21

  • I HAD THE GOOD FORTUNE TO SEE THIS SHOW ... THESE FUCKERS TRULY ROCKED THE HOUSE

  • I HAD THE GOOD FORTUNE TO SEE THIS SHOW ...GODAMN THESE FUCKERS TRULY ROCKED THE HOUSE

  • fucking badass shit here

  • good shit..

  • GENIUS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Holy Shit!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Yeah, but the true orgasm comes at 7:31....and it comes and comes....until we are spent.

Had this album in college and introduced lots of people to Lou Reed via it, who all loved it but no one seemed to want to go out and buy the album......of course, I went to college in California where we had Boz Scaggs, Van Morrison and Fleetwood Mac.

  • Yeah, but the true orgasm comes at 7:31....and it comes and comes....until we are spent.

Had this album in concert and introduced lots of people to Lou Reed via it, who all loved it but no one seemed to want to go out and buy the album......of course, I went to college in California where we had Boz Scaggs, Van Morrison and Fleetwood Mac.

  • One of the best live recordings ever! Rock On!!!!

  • Lou's studio recordings always sucked, but there was NEVER a better live performance than this.....EVER......

  • haha the best part starts 4:20!!

    who's with me?

  • @Phantasus87 I'm with you!!!!!!!!!!

  • @Phantasus87 No shit!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • the outro is thé best rock n roll there is!!!

  • We played this album on party's in the 70th, I was 18 years old. We loved it. I still do. Rock and Roll.

  • Still the greatest live album ever - the tour was amazing too! Never seen Lou again since ... never wanted to! How can you better perfection???

  • god bless Jenny

  • One of the top 5 best live albums EVER!...Reed, Hunter & Wagner are absolutely PERFECT TOGETHER..I was at this concert at Howard Stein's Academy of Music in New York...There will NEVER BE ANOTHER CONCERT QUITE LIKE THIS ONE!

  • Songs For Drella is only a two man production, Lou on guitar and John on keyboards/violin. Oh this album Lou's guitar playing really shines. It's not often that Lou shows off his guitar prowess but here he simply amazes. John also shows off his musical brilliance but for me his vocal steals the show. The passion on which he sings is what makes this album all that much better. On this one album, I would say that John's vocals are even better than Lou's becuase of the songs he chose to sing.

  • Killer album for sure!!! It (tied) is my favorite album by Lou Reed. It's not often that I say a "live" album by artist A is my favorite, but this album is just killer. I say tied because even though this is my favorite Lou Reed album, there is one other album by him that is just as good. But were it is not a Lou Reed "solo" album, I say this is his best solo production out there. The other album that i like just as much is Lou Reed/John Cale, "Songs For Drella". Check It Out!

  • LOVE the drums and guitar starting around 6:12 or so...

  • Great album, every song was a classic!

  • the greatest! xxx

  • the greatest! xxx

  • Listened to this for the first time in 1977 in HS and was mesmerized. Saw Lou Reed at SUNY Stony Brook in '78 and he was as potent as this album..........phenomenal.......now trying to teach my KIDS what good music really is....this guitar solo is among the best I've ever heard!

  • when I hear thi song, this albulm..it takes me back 40 years or so when life was drugs sex and rock n roll...my band, my van, my sg and my band master..and high school..life was good and this albulm says it all..those were the days my friend, the best days of my life, its been a long strange trip, wish I could go back

  • I kind of prefer the cover by Jane's Addiction

  • This so takes me back to a time where life was about getting stoned, rock n roll and high school. I used to listen to this LP everyday! No better rock-n-roll to define the excess of the early 70's! Brings fricking tears to my eyes Man! Far out!!@

  • everyone has to star a journey

    and find themself

  • rock and roll still listen to this album

  • used to ride around all night listening to this shit in high school 35 years ago. the guitar work is exceptional for 1973. listening now gives me really nice flashbacks. nobody ever accused lou of having perfect pitch. lol

  • used to ride around all night listening to this shit in high school 35 years ago. the guitar work is exceptional for 1973. listening now gives me really nice flashbacks. nobody ever accused lou of having perfect pitch. lol

  • This track is the ?????? Bollocks! simple as that! got me at the age of 14 into the world of music, and fun loving stuff and naughty stuff, the NUTS!

  • MEMORABILE UNO DEI DISCHI MIGLIORI, UNO DEI LIVE PIU' IMPORTANTI DELLA STORIA DELLA DISCOGRAFIA DAL VIVO!

  • Fantastic! Equal to Ya ya's , and that says it all... Prakash John's bass work on this cut blows away 90% of every lead guitar solo ever recorded in history... that's right.. the *bass line* here trumps the guitar solos for Freebird, Stairway to Heaven, Back in Black, and countless others... Sorry, it had to be said... (where's the tylenol?)

  • I had this on 8-track back in high school. I wore out two copies of it before I graduated. Great album and super guitar work !!!!

  • Freshmen in high school on my bro's Kenwood stereo. They just don't make rock like this any more.

  • Get Yer Ya Yas Out...if only for the incredible version of Sympathy for the Devil is a live album to be listed among the best

  • ONE OF THE BEST COVER BANDS THAT PLAYED LOU REED IN THE LATE 70,S AND EARLY 80,S IN THE ROCK CLUBS ON LONG ISLAND, WAS TWISTED SISTER,BEFORE THEY PLAYED THERE OWN MUSIC..

  • @Mrjoeypunkrock thats awesome

  • For two years as a teen I submersed myself in this song...the guitars took me way out of my world and the funny thing is , now after not having heard this for 30 years it still affects me in the same way......amazing work!

  • I still have this abum, though I haven't listened to it in like twenty-five years. Bought it when it was new; would've guessed it was more like 1976. Truly great, fine-wine music, so glad I got the youtube urge to find an old memory.

  • @rawcer

    I had Exactly the same:)

Had not heard it in 25 years, or more, and last week I was looking at an docementary on T.V. about L ou Reed and The Velvet Underground:) I ran to the computer to you tube:)
