  • need some help. so ive got all the different parts of my song in the playlist and their in the right place etc etc. but when i go to mix the track it goes funny. ill link a channel in the mixer to a peice of music but it doesnt work. on the odd occasion it does work it links the channel on my mixer to the wrong bit of music. does anyone understand this or know how to help me?

  • @kawasakikid800 explain linking a channel in the mixer to a piece of music? You link instruments to the mixer, you dont like music to the mixer.

  • @HipKnokerZ cheers for replying. ok so i rap and i record verses right. after theyve all been recorded i open them and put them all in the playlist in the right place. but obviously i need to be able to change the volume of these verses when im mixing. and when a select a channel for a verse the channel starts controlling another verse. then i try another one and it does the same. i know its really hard to explain i hope you understand

  • @kawasakikid800 can you post a vid of your problem so I can see it? Or send me the FLP and let me take a look at it. HipknokerZ@aol.com. Holla

  • hey man what is the name fo that meter you're using for the decibals? Nice vid btw. it helped

  • @MelonHead1848 Voxengo Span

  • Hey man I need some advice. When I'm mixing to have the volume loud enough or the beat to be heard properly the meter always says that it's 'clipping' only really when the kick and snare are hitting. But I don't get any distortion from this or anything. But then for post mastering I drop the beat down to leave headroom . Is this an ok way to mix?

  • @jazzbluesshred You should be able to mix without it clipping. But I guess do whatever works.

  • @HipKnokerZ nvm ! i got it its cause i was turning them louder rather than using compression to pump it up haha!

  • ive been makin music for a while now and im starting to concentrate on a good mix.. but the main problem im having is getting my kick to not interfere with my main instrument. when the kick hits. it makes the volume of that instrument drop. i know why it does, because the frequencies are colliding, but if i take out that part of the frequency then my kick sounds like plastic... please give me some advice.

  • @JayMbeats Sup dude, check out side chaining on youtube. Best way to fix it homey. Another way is to pan the instrument off center and let the boom stay in the middle. Check it out, holla back if you need more. God Bless.

  • mixing is more the volume, panning and efects of the individual soumd, mastering is the mixing of the whole song as a whole

  • whats the name of the song 0:13 and where can I get it?

  • thumbs up if you yawned after he did

  • I master every thing to -20, then on my master i use "Parametric EQ" and "Multi-band Compresser". Its very common.

  • those r some good tips dj. quick question, why do you put maximus and a multiband compressor together? They r both compressors?

  • I mix everything to -20 DB, then throw a maximus, parametric EQ, and a multiband compresser on the master track. I also cut the unheard frequency's with the parametric EQ. Once the maximus is on it makes everything sound much louder. Then I do the mastering. :P

  • @DJEpileptik69 unhead frequence? i hear everythin! yo!

  • So once you get it mix down to -12db and it sounds good, then it's ready to get it master? Or you mix it a little louder? Like--5db or your -12db concept is what I should stick with for best results????

  • @myflowbeats It all depends on the song. You want to create "head room". This is the extra space in the volume before you hit 0 db. If you want to mix is louder, just make sure it doesn't bleed or crack (sound quality). Some people master songs with no effects on the master tracks, and it works for them. I am just showing ONE of the ways to do it, not THE way to do it.

  • @HipKnokerZ OK good to know

  • @HipKnokerZ What i dont get is, is it okay to add effects to one of the instruments on its mixer track before mixing or mastering? like if you have a raw 3xosc saw and it sounds bad..? e.g flangus, fruity Parametric EQ, chorus or reverb?

  • @JamalHoltMusic 1. adding effects is part of the mixing process, 2. If a sound sounds bad, then 9 times out of 10, when you put effects on it, it won't sound any better.

  • @HipKnokerZ But i mean like if i want a certain sounding synth, because with the 3xosc you just get a raw synth with no special sound or anything

  • @JamalHoltMusic Yes, you could create sounds. In that process you can mix too

  • @pawelh9 ? what ?

  • where in the mixer is the gain knob located?...

    thanks.

  • Hey Thanks Man, But I Checked The 2nd Mixer Tut And The Vids For Mix And Master, Couldnt Find It, lol. Prolly Have More Questions In The Near Future, lol. Im New With FL Studio:) Thanks Again For The Reply And Great Vids!!

And If You Could Give Me Some Feedback With The Beats I Have Up, Would Really Appreciate It!! ttyl

  • is there any way i can get that beat

  • @cooled321 Depends what you are going to do with it. PM me and let's talk. ChristUP!

  • Hey Great Tutorial!! Did Help Alot!! I Just Had One Question, If You Put A Instrument Into The Mixer, But Later On Wanted To Take That Out Cuz You Decided Not To Use It, How Do You Remove The Instruments From The Track? Anyway Way Just To Clear The Tracks And Start New? BTW I Subbed:) Thanks Again For The Helpful Video's:)

  • @ItsYourBoyo7 You can mute it or just go to your step sequencer and delete it. Thanks for the sub.

  • Thanks! U helped alot!

  • @joshhg93 That's what it's about.

  • @HipKnokerZ

Thanks man! You are a life savior lol

    I apreciate it!

Good luck on the production of music!

    Josh.

  • Hey man you think you can help me on how to put every instrument in its own chanel?

    Thanks

  • @joshhg93 Sure, just hit the channel selector and go to the FX option on the top right of it. The numbers correspond to track numbers on the mixer. A faster way is to go to the channel selector and hit CTRL + L and it will automatically place it in a channel and label it for you. Hope this helps. Peace

  • man this beat is badass!=D

great job!! i wish i could listen more than the 5 seconds it plays for=/

    great job!

  • im challenging those who claims to be music tutors, to start doing the real mixing and mastering, to drop legit knowledge about this gig.all i have seen is pre mixed and mastered material, where music nerd's are just showing you knobs.it doesn't matter what kind of music, and what kind of software you use.make sure its a full track, with vocals!then make an epic life on youtube, do not pre-mix/master & then show us the results,we want to see you obtain those results, and talk through the vid.

  • @justmusicify uuummm, that's called paying for knowledge, what people go to school for and become professionals, you want all this for free? mmmm.

Don't get me wrong, I would love to see this too, it just doesn't happen. Let me know when you find it!

  • Hey nice video, but how did you get that meter with the decimals?

  • can you mix a track for me

  • am new with the FLstudio i wana know how did u get each instrument in an individual track

  • Thanks for this!!! helped a lot man

  • i need to know how i get the spectrum analyzer youre using, please

  • @Lbeatful voxengospan

  • @HipKnokerZ thanks a lot hipknokerz

  • i dont know how to put them there...it shows me only the snare and the the kick...not the bass strings synth and others

  • @SIMONDUKEN Can you make a video response here and show me what you are talking about?

  • @HipKnokerZ no man thank you i found it!!!!!but i cant find how to make an automation clip to make the sound of drums for example look louder at first and the to mute them slowly if you can help me with that you are the best!

  • @SIMONDUKEN Right click on what you want to automate (mute/unmute button on mixer, fader volume, panning knob, whatever) and pick "create automation clip". then go to the playlist and manipulate the clip. Hope this helps

  • Hey man, love your tutorials, ive learnt so much off you! if you havent allready would it be possible to make a tutorial about a basic way to compress kicks and snares to make them louder without introducing massive peaks? its something i am just struggling to master. CHEERS MAN< YOUR THE BOMB!

  • @junez85 Now that school is starting back for me, I will be on a better schedule to work on videos. For now I suggest you look up "FL Studio GURU", he has one already on compression. Whatever I will do on video will just be a replica of this, cause this is how I learned :)~. Also look up "NFX" he has wonderful tuts.

  • @junez85 Dude, check out FLSTudio GURU on compression, that's where I learned.

  • where did you get the spectrum analizer from? i cant find i anywhere. it must be a seprate plugin?

  • @junez85 Look up VOXENGO SPAN

  • subs 4 sub

  • does your computer enternal sound card effect you mixing even though i have a usb interface

  • Peruano estupido, el no habla espanol. Sudaca

  • One of the few videos on YouTube that actually teaches people valuable mixing skills. I see sooo many that are like "Yeah just chuck a Soft Clipper and Soundgoodizer on the Master and she's sweet" and it's scary to think that go and destroy their songs like that. Thanks for putting this up and thanks for knowing what you are doing! ^^

  • Thanks for the encouragement, again, I only put up what I learned, and I still have alot of learning to do. But I do have 6 years of research so I hope this helps.

  • the vocaaaoughh.....haha niice viid..thaks!

  • Intriguing oscilloscope.

    X

  • how do u put each instrument individual on the mixing?

  • what you do is left click on each pattern/instrument(in the pattern stepp sequencer) then a little box comes up with small keyboard and across the top are two boxes with numbers

go to top far right one left click and hold then scroll up or down. You will see the number change. these numbers correspond with the channel on the mixer

do this for each instrument. assign each to different numbers on the mizer

vwalla there you go.. happy mixing

  • OOOORRRRR.... you could click on the instrument button and press control +L lol

  • lol Im an idiot.. u right...haha

damn I didnt even realize I wrote all that lol

  • @FreshBeatz321 click the sound sample ur using and a box will pop up called channel settings in the top right there is a square cant miss it i think it says fx what ull do is click and move ur mouse up and put it in channel one or whatever u want also ur gonna have to do that to all of em if u havent

  • @FreshBeatz321 just click the rectangle for the channel you want on the step sequencer and press Ctrl+L

  • @FreshBeatz321 just click on the instrument or audio when its in the pattern box thing, then right click on the mixer track you want it in, then go to "link selected channels" and then "to this track"

  • very helpful , thanks

  • this is good. I like the tip about the -12. I was looking for a default # to go to.

  • This and the next video are probably the best videos of Mixing in FL on You Tube!

    I watched about 40-60...

And if possible record direct from screen with Cam Studio or something... You are a great teacher!

5/5 and Sub! Man keep it going with mastering please...

  • dope, thank you man

  • I just wanna give mad respect to HipKnokerZ for putting this up, Its hard to find these kind of videos on mixing and mastering. And to SillyEagle, sure maybe the beat wasnt as complex as you would like it, but I think the purpose of the video was to mix, not to make the fattest beat that ever hit the interwebs.

  • Turned off after "I do have a BEAT" and then only strings and bells coming in.

  • Thank you....Good video make more

  • good video, but not really clear,, maybe you can use a screen recorder;)

  • what is the plugin with the spectral line of the sound ? sorry i'm french, don't speak very well english

  • That's a spectrum analyzer. It's called VoxengoSPAN, I believe.

  • good vid i really need alot of help with my mixing game in fl 8

  • very nice. much information! good tips! can you make more videos on mixing?

  • yo good information keep it coming.

  • do u kno how to mix vocals?

  • I bet the adjustments you made to the snare to get that "snap" will come in handy.

  • Can you hook me up with the Spectrum analyser plugin?

  • google voxengo span and download it for free. Peace.

  • I enjoyed this video a lot! I am just now getting into FL Studios. I have version 7.0. Can you tell me what version you are using because yours looks a little different from mine. I am trying to find that big meter in mine, but having trouble. Thanks!

    ~Vince

  • I am using FL 8

  • Ahhh okay. Makes sense. Your videos are making me want version 8 now.

  • very nice it helped me with my mixing

  • Comment removed

  • My dB Meter goes over -12 but when I put the volume of the channel down, the dB Meter keeps showing the same. Also when I put the Master volume down, even if i turn of all the volume. What do i have to do?

  • do you have any mp3s downloads or a myspace so we could hear what your mix is like? thanks

  • Did you get the link, i think this page aint working right but send me your email ill send it there i tried to post it here peace

  • Hey waz up man i watched your tutorials on mixing and the other fl tutorials you have on your youtube channel. I though they were very usefull to me. I am trying to learn mixing, equing and mastering a song. So if you can tell me how like you learned how to do it step by step to what evrything in between means id appreciate it please. I been practising myself too. Also check out my myspace page and tell me what you think.

  • Leave your myspace link here. Mixing, equing and mastering is not easy for me to explain. I read a couple of books and been working on it for about three years now. It takes time, no short cuts.

  • lol damn u made me yawn lol ,,, great video. thanks bro,, those sounds are in FL?> or do you share those sounds?

  • Any sounds that I have either come from fl plugins or samples that I have. Just do a search for sound samples and you will find millions of them, literally.

  • yo bro, i really wanna thank u for this tutorial cuz now im very clear of what mixing is and more with the fruity loops, this is what i needed. I really appreciated this tutorial. let me get ur email so we could keep in touch cuz i would like to ask sum questions. I mess with everything hip hop, reggeaton, latin rythms everything. but this helped me a lot

  • No problem, be blessed and look at Nov update!

  • ?1 I layered the pattern

?2 put the fruity db on the master track, then make sure each instrument is on a separate track, then mess with the volumes and see the db meter change

  • great tutorial mate, two question have u got all them sounds in one pattern? and the other if i use the fruity db i can only seem to change the db down by changing the voloume on the step sequence and if i use the volume on the mixer it makes no diffrence. how are u doing it all by the mixer.

  • this is a great help but when i try and turn my kick down, the db metre stays the same so im unable to bring it down to the -12 mark... post back if you can help me... thanks

  • Track the kick to individual mixer track. Then use the volume slider of the track you just put the kick in. Holla

  • thanks for the reply... but still nothing, db metre is working but when i turn the kick down it doesnt move down

  • check the reply I just posted

  • I would yes, because of two reasons: 1, FL has a mixer that is Virtual, which means what you do on it is what you would do on a real mixer, and 2, you want to control volumes and panning of each individual track to mix appropriately. Now it depends if your analog mixer has many track slides or not, but you get the picture. Grace and Peace.

  • I want to know something.

If u use a real mixer (table) do u need to put every "instrument" on a track like we used to do on FL ? I mean after 2 years of productions on FL i'm tryin' to start usin' real equipements + FL but I'm missin some infos :( ...maybe the SteveMusic store could help me lol !

  • Damn dude I was getting into that right when you cut it off lol

    Nice tutorial though man!

  • Thanks for the love bro, grace and peace.

  • ima suscribe to ur vids cause ur from sc, im from walterboro

  • what is that metre fing u brought up on the left?

  • Its probably the fruity big meter. Helps you see what you are doing lol

  • great tutorial... what spectrum analyer are you using?

  • Voxengo Span, it's free too!
