Well, as long as the flight attendants got their asses off the plane then, what, hoped some passengers would crawl out to safety on their own, I guess it's okay. Can't hate someone for saving their own ass but definitely no heroes among that crew.
@krick0124 In my opinion they did do a lot of good. They acted extremely professionally and helped prepare the passengers to exit the plane, even though it wasn't procedure then. I think they did the best they could have.
@krick0124 But I see your point, they weren't fearless warriors or anything (like Robert Marcus in the crash of Eastern Air Lines Flight 401). I still think they did a good job though :)
There seems to be alot of captain hindsight going on in these threads. It's human nature to hesitate when faced with such situations. I'm not sure that the few minutes they did hesitate would have made much difference, really. What I can't believe the airplanes had emergency exits (for YEARS) but they had no emergency lights and passengers and flight attendants were not trained on them. So now I'm playing Doctor Hindsight, oh well. At least the poor people didn't die in vain.
It was something that God wanted to do maybe, to teach us that silly mistakes can make BIG Problems and we need to reflect and say 'God help flights that may have problems'
The thing that really gets me about all this is the amount of criticism the pilots recieved as a result of the accident. As far as I'm concerned, they did everything they could, as best they could, and given what was happening, they did an amazing job. I do not feel they could have handled the situation any better. They were in no better a position than the passengers, but they were expected to fly the plane under those conditions and STILL did it. They should have been commended for it.
Why ruin this with the bit about God at the end? The lady said she prayed to God to land the plane safely. In the end she bleats about God saving HER!! Well he didn't answer that prayer did he. I guess he just answered the other self preserving prayers that you made. What a load of crap!!
well i understand knowing the number of passengers on board is an important information to co-ordinate the rescue procedures...but isnt it stupid to be asking the question to the pilots who are fighting to fly a plane in such an emergency /mayday situation... ?? why cant the controller (in the era of such advanced information technology) retrive the information from departure airport or from the flight operator?

my gosh the way some of you talk in here is just nasty and has nothing to do with what we are watching. It always amazes me that people can get so mad at one another over stuff like this!!
Seconds from diaster are interesting with the disaster. The only problem is that they are full of PROPAGANDA. Why are their always cowardly Asians in these films. Blacks embracing whites?
90% race mixing garbage.
There are other documentaries far better than Seconds from Disaster.
@plasticspastic201 Go back to China yellow-bellie. We American depise PROPAGANDA especially PROPAGANDA that supports cowardly Asians, Indians, eastern Europeans and illegal aliens.
@plasticspastic201 Stop being a coward and go back to Asia. We Americans are going to get you cowardly Asians deported back to Asia where you belong. You are not welcomed in the US.
@njattack why do you love chinks so much? did your retard mother suck one of their cocks and you ended up getting shit out of her asshole into the gutter? dont take it out on me then hong pu
god was there with me.....he protected me.... rofl
she's happy because she thinks some fucking god up there picked her because she "deserved to live"......don't matter that her murderer god killed 23 people in the process.

I would like them to play some of a Stan Roger's song and also identify the producer who is speaking about Stan. I wonder why they never interviewed his wife Ariel or his brother or his son, Nathan?
The greatest tragedy was the loss of the people. Stan Rogers, an amazing folk singer died in this terrible accident. He wrote Northwest Passage and Barrett's Privateers, The Mary Ellen Carter and 45 years to name a few of his brilliant creations. He left a wife and small daughter. His brother still performs many of his and Stan's songs. There is a Stan Rogers Folk Festival in Canso NS called stanfest, check it out.
I'd like to see how those bureaucratic buffoons would react in command of a plane at 30K feet, with some smoke in the cabin that then looks like it's settling, no smoke detectors, no warnings pinpointing the fire.
They find it very easy to be Monday morning quarterbacks, but when you have to make life and death decisions in the moment with no second chances..well, I guess for them it's pretty easy from the cheap seats.
this documentary depicts that the airlines/ companies rather have people file lawsuits9provided that they survive) than suffer flight delays or inconviences.
I'm not pilot, but when you see smoke on a plane, you need to land ASAP. I've seen a lot of these videos where they second guess the seriousness of the situation.
@AntnyDsmn yea but there atleast should be an air ventilation system, something to suck out the air from the plane in-flight while passengers use the oxygen masks and then something to re-pressurize the plane
@themrchemist123 i am a trainee, and i concur, that first on the list besides trying to put out the fire, is to land, preferably at an airport, but if necessary, yes, ASAP, wherever you can put the plane, you put her down
agreed. if i were a pilot and smelled smoke, or THOUGHT i smelled smoke, sorry the passengers are going to be inconvenienced by an emergency landing. like with a quickness. would never continue a flight that even momentarily smelled of smoke.
@themrchemist123 Ahh, com'on... a few years ago when smoking was allowed, they just could not land a plane because there were smoke coming out of an ashtray... of course they have to make sure about the seriousness of the situation. When they don't, ok... land ASAP !!!
@mrconcept Yeah, but on the flip side, a lot of survivors suffer from survivor's guilt just for that reason: "Why should I be saved while the others died?" If it helps her get by, why not?
I recall being on a flight in 1999 into New York where minutes before we were scheduled to land the smoke alarm kept going off. They thought it was in the bathroom. Fortunately, we landed safely. The crew was talking about it as they walked down the hallways of the airport.
A clue they ignored was the Cynanide and flourine in the victims blood. What components generate that specific mixture of deadly gas. burn some wires and see what the gas makes
@liquid49286 almost anything could have cynanide or flourine in it, not just wires, and they may have been released after the heat burn them at any stage of the incident until the flash fire, not nescessary the source of the fire or even near to it, the heat was so intense that people couldn't move toward the back very far, so anything in the back half of the plane can be the a source of smoke.
@HAHAHA4379 no, i was replying to someone else's comment, they thought it was a different plane, and never assume, because i am actually partially deaf :P
this is why aircraft have vents that can pull all the air out and replace it with fresh air at lower altitudes.
flytheuk 1 week ago
@flytheuk That fresh air would only make fire worse.

@Pvjinflight ya very true, hadn't realized the whole oxygen thing.
